Overview: 
A four-step guide for a standard English only installation of 6 Mega-Mods & 50+ 
Popular-Mods This is not a mod, just a standard installation guide modified from 
Erebusant's weidu log. See http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=22224. 
This guide comes from a perspective of a modding-newbie, which thus may be 
easier for you to follow if you aren't sure where to start.

This guide looks best in Courier New at about 9 points (without word-wrap).

Objective: 
This is meant for people who are not willing to risk 2 days of their lives 
installing modifications but coming to naught. Unless you really have time to 
waste, don't try anything funny by straying from this standard installation 
sequence. Why not more mods? I think Erebusant's approach was good. 63 mods 
(including 6 mega) is already a lot of mods already to guarantee a good playing 
experience for newbies. Not to mention that too many mods installed may 
significantly slow down the game-play (obviously because more memory/parameters 
are loaded). Seriously, if you are looking for a good debugging experience or 
modding experience, this guide really isn't meant for you. 

Motivation: 
As many BG mods are created freely by the modding community, it so happens that 
the lack of standardized modding codes inevitable leads to cross-modding. As 
modding is in a state of flux, bugs are often reported by players with different 
mods installed, hence it becomes difficult for the modders to keep track of bug 
reports. As such, it is hoped that such a standard fuss-free installation for 
dummies will help most mod-newbies just looking for a good time. In addition, by 
creating a consistent playable platform using Weidu installations, it would be 
easier for bug reporting and patch-work to be made. 

Caution: 
Doesn't contain more than necessary information to help you install the mods and 
enjoy the game. If you love reading, and enjoy getting confused with 
installation procedures rather than playing the game, try to look elsewhere. The 
guide is only applicable for English versions & ensure you download the exact 
versions of the mods for a smoother installation process.

Checklist of skills required:
- Know how to use Winrar to extract mods
- Know how to install Weidu-type mods or have installed them at least once.
- Know how to copy and backup files in Windows Explorer
- Know how to open ini files and edit them with notepad
- Obviously you know how to play Baldur's Gate. Check done.

What is a mod, what is weidu, and how does all of it work?
A mod is the abbreviation of a modification of the original Baldur's Gate 
(BG1,TOSC,SoA,ToB) games. For a layman's, it is sufficient to understand weidu 
to be like the "add/remove programs" tool in your Window's control panel. It 
helps to "standardize" and keep track of the different mods that are installed 
and retains a certain level of consistency in the referencing of common files 
like the dialog.tlk. Before weidu was stablized, many mods were created using 
self-designed frameworks that resulted in a lot of incompatibility problems 
among mods. But weidu popularized itself as it straightened out many 
incompatibility issues that allowed the community to install various mods with 
relative ease, although cross-modding is still a frequent problem. Thus, this 
guide provides reference for the smooth installation of a certain set of weidu-
type mods to avoid complications.

/// Step 1. Make a clean installation of BG, TOSC, SoA, ToB with patches.

1(a). Perform complete install of Baldur's Gate & TOSC & Official Patch v5512.

    Complete a custom installation (with all the checkboxes ticked) of Baldur’s 
    Gate 1 and Tales of the Sword Coast, patched to version 5512. Install to the 
    default directory if you have room on your hard drive (typically C:\Program 
    Files\Black Isle\Baldur’s Gate), or any other drive where you have room. 
    Just be prepared to provide the BGT installer with the correct path to the 
    installation later.

1(b). Change the path in Baldur.ini for the <BG+TOSC> installation.

    Backup the existing "Baldur.ini" to "Baldur.ini.bak". Open "Baldur.ini" with 
    notepad and remove the following lines (here, E:\ is the CD-ROM drive 
    letter, but your ini file should correspond to your own drive letter.)
    CD1:=E:\CD1\;
    CD2:=E:\CD2\;
    CD3:=E:\CD3\;
    CD4:=E:\CD4\;
    CD5:=E:\CD5\;
    CD6:=E:\CD6\;

1(c). Perform complete install of SoA & Throne of Bhaal & Official Patch 26498.

    Install full SoA installation and ToB installation in a different directory 
    from 1(a), and patch the SoA+ToB installation to version 26498.    

1(d). Test the clean installs (do not skip this as it initializes registry keys)

    (i) Start Baldur's Gate. Use any character. It is only a test!
        - Start a game and walk around a few steps and perform some actions.
        - Quit the game.

    (ii) Start Shadows of Amn. Use any character. It is only a test!
        - Start a game and walk around a few stepsand perform some actions.
        - Quit the game.

    (iii) Start Throne of Baal. Use any character. It is only a test!
        - Start a game and walk around a few steps and perform some actions.
        - Quit the game.

1(e). Remove the CD from the CD-Rom drive.

    Ensure that no CDs are still in the CD-rom drive as this may seriously 
    affect the installation procedures.

(i-0)   Before installing 01_BG2_FIXPACK-v4, 
        Open bg2fixpack\setup-bg2fixpack.tp2, and do a search for AR1303 and 
        find it near lines 2756 - 2762, then comment out the section such that 
        it looks like this:

        Open setup-scs.tp2, then go to Line 5098.
        Find "EXTEND_BOTTOM ~ar3499.bcs~ ~SCSBGT\misc\laureladd.baf~" 
        and change it to "EXTEND_BOTTOM ~ar3499.bcs~ ~SCS\misc\laureladd.baf~"

(i-2)   Before installing 23_Ascension-WeiDU-v1.4.22, 
        Open Stats.IDS in "\ascension\ids\stats.ids" with notepad.
        Add one blank line just before "1 MAXHITPOINTS" using the 
        return/enter key. The result is that "1 MAXHITPOINTS" is 
        now on Line 2, with a blank line above it.

(i-3)   Before installing 27_DomainsofDread_WeiDU, 
        you need to make a copy of your v(latest version) WeiDU.exe 
        and rename the copied file to Setup-DoFD.exe.

(i-4)   Before installing 31_gbthfkp.v2.14,
        if you're up to v(latest version) WeiDU, you need to copy 
        your v(latest version) WeiDU.exe over into your GBThfKp folder
        overwriting the version 195 WeiDU.exe or your installation of 
        this component will fail.

(i-5)   Before installing 45.1_BPv177, 
        Open both Spell.IDS in <script compiler> and <override> directories: 
        For both files, find "2226 COM_STEAM", then insert a line after
        that "2227 COM_CATS_GRACE" in that line using the same format.

(i-6)   During installing Some errors regarding "gMinions.baf" will occur. 
        Just ignore them as they will be overridden by 55_gMinion-v1.8.

(i-7)   There are a couple of compatibility issues in 57_scsII-v2.exe. 
        Dont install the following components that I have highlighted with 
        problems below:
        
        [x] Smarter dragons -> Dragons have fast, uninterruptable innate magic
            ERROR in giving immunity to spin695: hdragsil has the wrong effect 
        [x] Enemy mages use Simulacrum and Project Image spells (this component 
            will have no effect unless you install Smarter Mages)
        [x] Smarter mages -> Mages cast some short-duration spells instantly at 
            start of combat, to simulate pre-battle casting
            ERROR: [ARMY4.CRE] -> [override/ARMY4.CRE] Patching Failed (COPY)
            (Invalid_argument("String.sub"))

(i-8)   After installing 57_scsII-v2, 
        Open stats.ids in the <override> directory with notepad.
        Add one blank line just before "1 MAXHITPOINTS" using the

        now on Line 2, with a blank line above it.

4.1.1   Uninstalling Baldur's Gate & TOSC (~2.5 GigaBytes)
    
        Since Baldur's Gate Trilogy has been installed, the BG+TOSC can now be 
        uninstalled to save about 2.5GB of hard disk space.
        
4.1.2   Deleting Mod folders & Weidu setup.exe files (~2 GigaBytes)

        The SoA+ToB directory may be full of moddish folders extracted from each 
        of the mods.rar/mods.exe/mods.zip, it is safe to delete them, except the 
        following folders

            - CD2
            - CD3
            - CD4
            - CD5
            - characters
            - data
            - eReg
            - GUI_Mods
            - mplayer
