I think I identified the issue.

CD3:=C:\Games\Baldur's Gate 2\data\

The backup folders I used where from my installation of course, but it is an installation made in my 1st attempt where I didn't use the correct path as I do now. Is there a fix for this, or do I have to make a new installation in this new, correct directory? I'd rather avoid that install, start playing to create save folders - if possible...

What should the next step be for me from here?

So, do all the above mean that something has gone terribly wrong? :crying:  :crying:  :crazy:

The antivirus is Bitdefender 2017. I had it turned off during the whole installation process.

Attached File  BiG World Debug.7z   26.46K   119 downloads

Both of the above are from the "Big World Independent Installation" folder.

What do you get when you start the game?

From "Big World Independent Installation" folder, If I use baldur.exe:

1.jpg

From "Big World Independent Installation" folder, If I use BGMain.exe:

2.jpg

From "Baldur's Gate" folder, I get Baldur's Gate 1 + Tales.

From "Baldur's Gate 2" folder, I get the same as from "Big World Independent Installation" folder.

Is there a file called BiG World Install.txt in the log folder ? And upload it.

I don't have it. The closest to it that I have is:

3.jpg

This is a list of all files in the "Big World Independent Installation" directory:

Or just edit the [Alias] -protion to say:

[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Users\Sofi-bo\Games\Baldur's Gate 2
CD1:=C:\Users\Sofi-bo\Games\Baldur's Gate 2\data\
CD2:=C:\Users\Sofi-bo\Games\Baldur's Gate 2\data\
CD3:=C:\Users\Sofi-bo\Games\Baldur's Gate 2\data\
CD4:=C:\Users\Sofi-bo\Games\Baldur's Gate 2\data\
CD5:=C:\Users\Sofi-bo\Games\Baldur's Gate 2\data\
And then you have to use the BGMain.exe('s shortcut) to start the game ALWAYS.

I am going to try the edit option and see how it goes, thanks!

Part of the BWS process is to "Test availability of the downloads" and "Test present mods":

After testing availability BWS comes up with "All selected downloads were found":

Attached File  BiG World Link Debug.txt   25.5K   413 downloads

After testing present mods, it comes up with a few mods missing from the downloads folder:

Attached File  BiG World Checking Debug.txt   10.15K   205 downloads

How can this be? Plus, no matter how many times I did the tests, always the same result as the 1st time.

I got bored from trying repeatedly, so I decided to carry on with the process. It is going well so far:

...

Still going ok, no error messages so far:

Having gotten the hang of installing BWS (at least as a beginner), I think it is better to stop posting here and start a new thread following The Imps suggestion to post the weidu.log and start from there with any questions I have with regard to the gameplay of my recommended installation.

@quinlan, may I suggest that you go to the first post, edit it, maybe hide the post original content in spoilers, and attach your weidu.log into it and then continue from there on.. maybe.

This got very long-winded until i got my bearings. Your suggestion has a lot of merit. Much can be and will be deleted in order to shorten it.

About Homeward Bound, what is this osx?

#593743 A new start (again) for BG game plus mods

What would be the purpose of restoring? Is it to perhaps find the missing mods? This is a hypothetical question. I have just realized that I didn't create back-up through BWS. I was thinking that if sh*t hits the fan, I'd better do a delete everything and start from scratch. I see now that wasn't a wise decision... So, at least I can do the manual stuff like polytweak, is that right? are any of the others possibilities for manual download as well, except the "Homeward bound". Also, ALIEN, how may I help you with your question at the beginning of this thread?

May I ask which mods will you choose to play using BGT? I would like to see which essential mods are missing for EE version. You can export whole selection of mods/components using upper-left menu at the mod/component list

The installation has finished.

Untitled.png

Attached File  BiG World Install Debug.7z   887.99K   127 downloads

However, a few mods weren't installed:

C:\Users\Sofi-bo\Games\Role Playing\Baldur's Gate 2>The following originally selected mods could not be installed:

Mod: Polytweak
Component: PnP mind flayer attacks
Component: Improved (less buggy) trolls
Component: Improved Umberhulks
Component: Improved Yuan-Ti
Component: Improved Minotaurs
Component: Corrected Vampire Stats
Component: Related Weapon Proficiencies -> Related Weapon Proficiencies including clubs
Component: Anomen
Component: Jaheira -> Dual wielding
Component: Keldorn
Component: Valygar
Component: Viconia
Component: Distinctive Icons for Blackrazor and Flametongue
Component: PnP mace of disruption

Mod: Homeward Bound
Component: Homeward Bound
Component: Romances end due to separation -> Original game behavior is unchanged

Also, the following mods were listed as missing from the downloads folder during the testing at the beginning of the process:

BiG World Fixpack (includes Trimpack)
Sarevok Friendship
Polytweak
Baldur's Gate Trilogy Graphics Overhaul
One Pixel Productions

My chosen installation was for the BWS "Recommended" selection. I didn't add anything on my own. So, what do I do now with all these missing mods? Is there a way to install them or should I leave it as it is, no additional tampering? Bear in mind that this is just a play-test in order to familiarize myself with the process, therefore I am not against a little more tampering. The worst thing to happen is I am forced to do a new clean install and I am OK with this possibility, in fact I count on having a few new clean installs until I am ready to go for the custom installation I have in mind.

BWS has done its job.

Indeed it has and I must say that the experience is smooth and trouble-free if one follows instructions.

There are two (text) files in your game directory:

WeiDU-BGEE.log  >>> all the mods (down to component level you have installed on BG1 part of the game)

WeiDU.log >>> all the mods (down to component level you have installed on BG2 part of the game)

The only WeiDU log files I have in the "Big World Independent Installation" game directory are these and they don't have a list:

Attached File  Big World Independent Installation WeiDU.log   600bytes   132 downloads

Attached File  Big World Independent Installation WeiDU-201703060832.log   270bytes   129 downloads

I also have a WeiDU in the Baldur's Gate game directory (no list here):

Attached File  Baldur's Gate WeiDU.log   270bytes   136 downloads

and a WeiDU in the Baldur's Gate 2 game directory (no list here):

Attached File  Baldur's Gate 2 WeiDU.log   270bytes   136 downloads

Am I missing something?

Also, about the  BG1/SoD part, I have installed the original game from GOG, not the EE version.

I could always run "Start BiG World Setup - Update If Needed" and get the info about the various mods, but shouldn't I have a WeiDU log somewhere?

I am worried if WeiDU log is missing or incorrect since it doesn't have all the detailed info it should have, there may be other issues as well. If I don't have the correct WeiDU - and I cannot seem to be able to find it, then how do I know that everything has been downloaded and installed properly?

Finished. No error reports other than Homeward Bound and that Xan Audio issue earlier in the process. When I run "Start BiG World Setup - Update If Needed" again, This is what I got:

Untitled.jpg

Since space isn't an issue for me, I don't need to run the .bat in order to delete and save some space. May I assume that I don't need to use BWS anymore and that I can start checking / play-testing? By the way, where can I find a list of installed mods in order to keep an eye for them while playing in order to check if they work properly?

I haven't decided yet, but I do plan for it to be an as massive installation as I can get away with. I definitely want to include Shadows Over Soubar, Darkest Day, Never Ending Journey, any other major mod out there full of quests such as the aforementioned, and a lot of item-, spell-, rule-, stat-, etc related mod I can find through the BWS setup, provided that there are no conflict issues. I want a lot, but I do not feel brave enough to risk crashes.

Having said that, crashes may still happen. As far as protecting myself against them, these are the steps I have taken so far:

- Both BG1(GOG) and BG2(GOG) have been installed in a new folder I created other than the OS ones.

- Have created backup folders of both games which include the following:  The entire Override folder, Baldur ini, BGMain, chitin key, dialog tlk.

- Antivirus is off

- User account prompts off

Is there any other step I can/should take before I start the BWS process?

Since I am going to be play-testing it, which option from the "select game-type / installation-method" menu should I go for, the customization or the install bat only one?

Still talking about a GOG copy of BGT.

Having just finished doing a clean install of both BG 1 & 2 and having played for a few minutes in each and saved as well, I am ready to start on the BWS... :ermm:  :crying:  :ermm:  :crying:  :ermm:  :crying:

Having BG 1 & 2 from GOG means I don't have to apply the official patches before installing BWS, right?

Excellent. It seems i am more than covered in everything i want with BWS. I am thinking of a party of 4 created characters plus 2 npcs, positions for Imoen at the beginning, Viconia perhaps and Sarevok when the time comes.

I would have expected the throwing up to be related to the half-orc. :lol2:  :lol2:

What kind of play-testing should I go for? Obviously I am not going to check every single blue/orange/red/yellow mode and their various combinations. Should I go for a big one plus a few smaller mods each time?

Everything seems to be going well this time. Other than the Xan audio issue, nothing else reported  as failed, availability of downloads was tested and present modes tested as well. I am going to close the internet connection now according to the instructions and continue with the process.

OK.

During the 2nd attempt which is still underway I got this warning:

I chose that it is correct, not the re-installation option.

If I click on pause and then exit, will I be able to continue from where it is now?

I chose continue and the setup crushed. When I clicked "Start BiG World Setup - Update If Needed" again and went through the steps, copied the previously downloaded mods (other than the failed ones) into the "Big World Downloads" folder, I got this warning which didn't appear before:

How come a pre-release is part of the recommended installation and why didn't it appear during my previous 1st attempt?

I have a pretty good connection, ethernet enabled, not wireless, Ping 10ms, Download 37.77Mbps, Upload 9.51Mbps.

How do I go about retrying download? Do I click continue or back?

#593472 A new start (again) for BG game plus mods

Posted by quinlan on 02 March 2017 - 04:58 AM in Mega Mod Help

Greetings everyone,

BG in all its versions/expansions is an itch that will never go away. As a consequence, I have decided (predictably) to scratch it again. I am thinking of the full BG1 TOTSC + BG2 SOA + BG TOB plus a multitude of mods. I want to start 1st level at BG1, play it all the way through to the end of the official expansion TOB with all the best that the community of modders has to offer in 2017!

Is the pdf "BiG World Project v16 English" by Leonard Watson the right place to start my journey?

I believe I have much more than minimum system requirements covered, but in the interest of double-checking, could you please have a look and confirm if it is enough to play with everything game-related maxed:

- Intel Core2 Duo (2.4-GHz, 4-MB L2 cache)

- RAM 4.00 GB

- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

- 17.0-inch diagonal WUXGA WVA (1920 x 1200 and 16M colors)

- NVIDIA Quadro FX 1600M with 512 MB of video memory

Perhaps it is too early for this question, but here it is nonetheless:

All 3 official games plus a tone of mods means I will most definitely reach the max level allowed. Is this issue covered through BWP installation, or will I have to do something else in addition in order to erase the game limitations for levels and spells?
