The character is slightly based on a character from a David Gemmel book (Echoes of the Great Song) though for any Gemmel fans out there don't consider this to be exact.

Touchstone is an Elven Fighter from the Great Forest, I have created him as a Wild Elf and while I know this race is not in BG2 neither are many races that are now NPC's so you will have to imagine that Wild Elves fall under Elves generally. Now that that's out of the way, Touchstone is on a slightly strange quest which he will outline to you when you meet him. There is only one resolution to this quest in the game, if you think about it you will have a good idea where it is...that's all I am saying. Touchstone will interject from time to time to ask questions about this quest and the PC can also ask in certain dialogues on his behalf.

He should also talk to you to offer you words of wisdom if you simply use the talk icon in the game to click on him. There are banters with all the Bioware NPC's throughout the course of SoA and ToB, interjections in major quest dialogs, Tree of Life choice and a ToB Epilogue.

I hope you enjoy Touchstone, I would call him a One-day NPC if I had done this in a day but with RL commitments it has taken 2 years. (RL commitments mostly involve general lying about and doing nothing or browsing forums etc). Oh and the name thing..Touchstone..Touch-the-Moon is explained too...in the mod.

This mod is designed to work with Baldur's Gate 2, Shadows of Amn, with the Throne of Bhaal expansion. This mod should be installed in your Baldur's Gate 2 directory. For many users, this directory is Black Isle/BGII - SoA.

There are no known incompatibilities with any mod.

Windows

Touchstone is packaged and installed with WeiDU and is distributed as a zip archive. To install, simply double-click the archive and extract the contents into your BG2 game directory.

If properly extracted, you should have a touched folder and Setup-touched.exe in your BG2 folder. To install, simply double-click Setup-touched.exe and follow the instructions on screen.

Please run Setup-touched.exe in your BG2 folder to reinstall, uninstall or otherwise change components.

Mac OS X

The mod contains a fully voiced joinable NPC: Touchstone. You can find him in the Docks District of Athkatla.

V1.0 also gives the option of installing a Wild Elf Fighter kit. Otherwise Touchstone is a vanilla fighter class.

The kit description is as follows:

WILD ELF FIGHTER: Wild Elves are a hardier breed of Elf that live in tribes of roughly 30 to 100 people. More tribal and nomadic than High Elves, Wild Elves maintain Elven elegance and grace despite a simple wardrobe of leather, furs, and simple weaves. Hardened by their surroundings yet appreciative of life, Wild Elves live by the motto: "Live as if you will die tomorrow. Fight as if you will live forever." Wild Elves are generous to those they view as good and merciless to those they view as evil.

Advantages:

• - Missile weapon bonus (+1 bonus to hit and damage for every 5 levels)
• - Called Shot once per day for every 7 levels (lasts 10 seconds, hits induce: 4th level -1 THAC0 of target, 8th level -1 Save vs. Magic of target, 12th level -1 Strength of target, 16th level +2 damage bonus)
• - Can use Berserker Rage once per day for every 6 levels (While raged: +2 bonus to hit and damage, -2 AC bonus, Immune to: Charm, Hold, Fear, Maze, Imprisonment, Stun, and Sleep, temporary 15 HP increase [taken away at end of rage - could cause death])

Disadvantages:

• - Cannot wear better than studded leather armour.
• - Proficiency Restrictions:
  • Grand Mastery (+++++) allowed in Bows, Axe, Dagger and Darts.
  • High Mastery (++++) allowed in Spear and Shortsword.
  • Mastery (+++) allowed in Longsword, Club, Quarterstaff and Sling.
  • Specialisation (++) allowed in Bastardsword.
  • Proficient (+) in all other weapons.

Portrait:

Portrait modded from an indian actor that played Tonto or something in some show years ago. Alternate portraits can be found in the portraits folder of the mod. Simply rename the portrait you wish to use to BKtouch1, M & S and place them in the override folder.
