#607985 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 27 November 2019 - 11:06 AM in Mega Mod Help

Hi semaj577:  Hi The Imp:

Thank you for the information.  I will try to follow it.

I may have said this before, but I do have memory problems.  Your answers triggered something.  Some time ago I found a way to copy items with Nearinfinity.  With my many computer crashes I lost the name of the author and the  instructions.  A kind player published how to use Nearinfinity to copy bags in a Spellhold Studios forum.  I did find a copy of the containers so I will try them.  As I remember, it did do away with the game slowdown.  But with my memory, do not rely on my last statement.  I checked in Nearinfinity and found that the copied ITM files were not in the Nearinfinity ITM files. The copied STO files were not in the Nearinfinity STO files.  But the copied bag files were in the BGII - SoA override file and the Nearinfinity override file.  Perhaps that prevents the game slowdowns.

I am not very good at searching Spellhold Studios forums, but it you can find that post you may post where it is located so the author can get credit for his work.

Thanks again,

Tom

I switch the contents of the game containers with the copied containers.  This does not help with game movement.

#607963 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 26 November 2019 - 01:36 PM in Mega Mod Help

Hi All:

My BGT game is going along.  Finished the Nashkel Mines and starting other activities in that area.

I had two crashes, but a simple reboot fixed each problem like it never happened.  I only had trouble with containers.  There are a lot in the game.  Probably too many.  I will cut down the containers in my next game.  As you know, the more containers you have, the slower the game movement.  I limited the containers to one of each kind and the movement is back to normal.  In case I missed something about containers,  is there a way to use more containers with out losing movement speed?   In Atweaks #502, you can adjust the number of items in the containers.  If you increase the amount the containers can have, does that affect the movement speed?

I wish you all well,

Tom

#607917 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 18 November 2019 - 02:19 PM in Mega Mod Help

Hi All:

I fixed my second BGT game.  It turns out it was all my fault.  When I installed my original BGII - SoA, I made a copy of the file.  I used the same copy many times to restart the game.  I did not pay any attention to the number of files (it should have been 55 in my game) but the number gradually increased because I was sloppy .  The other thing I did not check was Microsoft Security Essentials.  In turning it on and off, I failed to make sure it was turned off when I installed the game.  So I was careless and it meant I wasted a lot of time. Both games work OK now.  Now to try to add Vlad's mods.

I still need help with  The Bigg's spellbooks. I can Identify the spellbook, but I cannot use the spellbook.  When I try to use a spellbook all I get is the word "done".  If some one knows the secret, please let me know what it is.

#607874 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 16 November 2019 - 11:39 AM in Mega Mod Help

Hi All:

I fixed my typos and mistakes.  Found BiG World Installpack v18.2.5.  Started two identical games according to my last games.

The Baldur's Gate each have the same 28 files.  The BGII - SoA each have the same 55 files.  The BiG World Downloads folders each had the same 255 mods. The individual.bat files were identical.  All set for my Game #23 and game #24.  What could go wrong.  I slipped up doing the cleanup and biffing on Game #23.  But that should not matter. That BGII - SoA folder had 972 files.  I did the cleanup and biffing on Game #24.  That BGII - SoA folder had 887 files.  Apparently that did matter.

Game #23 crashed in Candlekeep in the training area.  Then it crashed in the fight with Sarevok.  That was as far as that game would go.  Game #24 is great.  No problems at all.  I have been play it for six hours now and only got killed four times.  If Game #24 continues on this way for a week, I will post the WeiDU.log.

In the mean time, I forgot how to use the Bigg's spell books.  I would appreciate some help with this.

Now to do Game #23 again with cleanup and biffing to see it that really matters.

Thanks to all for their previous help.  Without the help, I still would be trying to fix a broken game instead of playing a working game.

#607850 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 15 November 2019 - 08:01 AM in Mega Mod Help

Hi All:

Started two new games this morning.  They were suppose to be identical but there are some differences I do not understand.

I am using an A78M-A and A78M-E motherboards.  The major difference is the A76M-A has four memory slots and the A78M-E has two memory slots.  They have the same AMD CPU.  They have the same Windows 7 PRO 64 bit OS.

The BGII - SoA files have identical program files.  BiG World Downloads has the identical 256 mods.  The individual.bat files are identical.

So how or why should the games install differently???

In the A78M-A computer, when installing the mods from BiG World Downloads to BGii - SoA, the BiG World Install.bat transfers four copies of MADEINHEAVEN_ITEM PACK-MASTER.ZIP to BGII - SoA.

In the A78M-E computer, The BiG World Install, bat copies DR8_HOTFIX from individual.bat to BGII - SoA.  Even though the line containing DB8_HOTFIX starts with REM.

I cannot be sure, but watching the games install appears to be doing the installations at different rates.

Has anyone with two computers ever notices this on their computers?

Hi all:

I finally got my game (actually games) going.  There are lots of people to thank. Especially Leonardo for his hard work on BWP and helping us all with our questions.  DivideBy0 for the addresses of the mods.  I believe a lot of my problems were do to using incorrect spelling of a mod.  Using the correct mod names made the mods install correctly. kampfloloss for leading me to delete the "temp" file.  The Imp for helping me with my not so smart questions.

I have two games going.  They are almost identical except one has Vlad's Compilation and Never Ending Journey 3.  Both have about 250 mods.  I am only in CandleKeep and going through the chores.  Better than I have done in a long time.

Again, thanks to everyone for their help,

Tom

Oh well, my typos got me again.  Started having troubles.  I did search the individual.bat four times before I started the games, but that was not enough.  I found another typo.  I guess I should be thankful it was easy to find.

Hi All:

My very sincere apologies for messing up the second spoiler.  Although it was intended for the data to be "spaced" out from left to right, it ended up squashed from left to right.

The order from left to right of each line should be:

Mod ID            V# - my WeiDU.log             V# - BWP WeiDU.log            V# - BWP Installation Instructions

Again, my apologies,

Hi DivideBy0:

Your response was terrific.  I had B!Tweaks Full Mod many years ago, but due to computer crashes I lost a lot of files.  I still have some 5 1/2 floppies and 3.5 disks.  I had USB drives for both, but have trouble finding them.  If I do find B!Tweaks Full Mod, I will try to get the author to post them again.

Thanks again,

#607754 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 09 November 2019 - 02:04 PM in Mega Mod Help

Hi All:

As you can tell I am very frustrated.  So I spent three days getting some information about my megamod game, which is the 20th one I have tried with BGP v18.2.

I have found there is a difference between the mod versions between the version numbers in the installation instructions in BGP v18.2 and between the version numbers in the WeiDU.Log section of BGP v18.2.  I assume that if you use the incorrect mod version, the game could fail.

I have tried to follow the version numbers in WeiDU.log.  Since I have tried 20 games  with out a working game, I  have been making bad choices.  In order to get help, I have posted two files which show which mods I have been using and the version numbers of the mods I have been using.

In the list of mods, the mods I either had problems with or could not download are underlined with at least 25 stars.  In the file with mod versions there are several ways version numbers are referenced,  Three --- indicate no version number.  NA indicates the mod either is missing or it was the incorrect version.

I will now try to   post spoilers.

Spoiler

Spoiler

My apologies if I messed up the spoilers.

Any help in finding where to find the missing mods would be greatly appreciated,

Tom

#607734 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 07 November 2019 - 06:14 PM in Mega Mod Help

Hi All:

It is very simple.  I need lots of help!

Here is what I did today.  Tried to make Game #20.  It failed.

I followed WeiDU.Log from Big World Project v18.2  The only mods and components I used were those that the WeiDU.Log showed were in that game.  Well there were a few exceptions.  These were CDTWEAKS "2151 2999 3000 3031 3190", ATWEAKS "502" and The Bigg Tweak Pack "1200 9000".

Due to trouble with installing some mods, I needed to use mods that were versions other than those in WeiDU.Log from Big World Project v18.2   But I did keep to the component numbers.

I used a modified "individual.bat".  There was a limited use of REM statements.  They were only used when a mod had some components installed and other components from the same mod removed.  If mods were not wanted, they were not added to BiG World Downloads.

One thing that I wondered about was the BGConfig.exe file.  I used it first to confirm BGII - SoA was working.  Then I used it in the game with the settings from the test run.

The game problems.  The initial fight on the Iron Throne roof  with Sarevok does not play.  You start the game in Candlekeep.  Meet a guard outside the Inn and tell the guard you will take the goods rather that work for them.  After the guard leaves, I try to save the game.  I cannot save the game immediately.  After a few tries, the game ends.  All I can do is restart the game over and over again.

I will put the individual.bat and WeiDU.log and try to post them tomorrow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Tom

Hi Leonardo:

REGEX is new to me.  I did some reading about it.  My brain (or what is left of it) needs to spend more time to fully appreciate that language.

My game failed again.  It does every thing but save the game.  That happened before.  Any suggestions?  I looked through all the files that might indicate a problem, but found nothing that made any sense to me.

Posted by tomkaz on 02 November 2019 - 06:46 AM in Mega Mod Help

Hi Leonardo:

I hate to be such a pain.  It is just that I look at details and as a result I find differences others do not see.  That tics off my wife.

In individual.bat, Section 1,  the 1pp section, there is the line "findstr /I /M "3D.Acceleration=1" baldur.ini".  In Baldur.ini,  the line is "3D Acceleration=1".  (Sorry for the fine print.)  Individual.bat has a period between the "D" and "A".  Baldur.ini does not have that period.  Which is correct?

I appreciate your hard work.

Hi choe:  Hi khelban12:

My apologies to all about the following empty post, that is if it gets published,

Thank you for your suggestions.  I am temporarily busy reinstalling Windows 7 on the computer Wordperfect 12 messed up.  I happened before and Corel supplied a fix.  This time they insist I buy v9x.

I did use UnfinishedBusiness-27.zip and tried UnfinishedBusiness-26.zip and both failed in BWP.  I will try the suggestions you both posted.  I expect it will take me at least 12 hours to start a new game.

Anyone have suggestions for a keyboard with lit keys?  After the eyes operation, I need to have a lit room to see the keys.  The bright light hurts my eyes and the dim light makes it difficult to see the keys. I prefer a wireless keyboard with a mouse.

Hi All:

Life is miserable.  Probably because I make a lot of mistakes with an very old brain.

Tried to install two games yesterday.  Only changed one mod in one and only changed one component in the other.  They were based on a megamod game that installed and worked.  Both failed.

Looking for Unfinished Business for BGII v27rc1.   The author already erased it and replaced it with v27 which I have but does not work.  If these authors would keep the last 2 or 3 versions they posted around  so they could be used with other mods, it would make like wonderful.

Some how my version of Wordperfect 12 got corrupted.  Coral hides files in your computer with your data.  Called Coral and they game me lots of garbage.  I was supposed to get a email in 30 minutes with a way to remove the secret files.  Well it has been three hours and no email.  If any one knows the way to strip a computer of all Wordperfect 12 files I would appreciate that.

Hi All:

I think I am getting dementia as I am having memory problems. But, this morning I did remember something I did with Widescreen Mod that allows you to get the perfect game picture.  If after you install your game and the screen picture is too large or too small, you can change the size.  For example.  I used Widescreen to make my game picture 1600x900 pixels.  I thought that made everything too small.  So I opened 'setup-widescreen.exe'.  There I could remove the 1600x900 pixel screen and reinstall a 1280x720 pixel screen.  Yes, it took about 30 minutes.  But nothing else can do that.  And you can do it as often as you want. It is simple to do and nothing in the game gets messed up.  So like The Imp, I also advise every one to use Widescreen.

Hi The Imp:

Thank you again.I will be starting a newer game tomorrow so I can check out 8 start.  I do have NeJ in my list of mods. Will VCv21 also give the 8 start?

I previously used 1280 x 720 with a 27" screen and like that a lot.  I had my catoracks replaced 5 weeks ago. It is taken some time to get use to the "new" eyes especially the distance vision.

#607656 BWPv18.2 released

Posted by tomkaz on 27 October 2019 - 01:48 PM in Mega Mod Help

Hi All:

I have a game started with 245 mods.  A few minor problems, mostly my own fault.  But so far the game is very playable. The color test failed but color is OK in  the game.  Characters started the game at ~level 8 in CandleKeep.  Initial random monsters are in groups of 10 but I assume that is because they begin the game at higher levels.  The only difference between this game an the previous two games is that the game was newly installed and the mods in BiG World Downloads are matched to the versions in BiG World Project.

I am using a 32 inch screen with WideScreen mod.  Any suggestions for a comfortable size.  I used 1600 x 900 but that is too small. I forgot what I did to prevent all the hidden stuff from being moved around.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hope all the others who may have had problems have as mush good luck as I have had.

Hi The Imp:

Thanks for your comments. I can always depend on you for good comments.  I did not know the max cache size was 2000.  But what bothers me is that I always religiously used Cache Size = 5000 and I always used Path Search Nodes = 40000.  I have used these same numbers for at least the last three years.  So the other numbers are bothering me.  But thanks for the information about the Cache Size.

I have the line "findstr /I /M "3D.Acceleration=1" baldur.ini" in sections 1 and 9 in Individual.bat.  I have seen that line in section 1 before, but it never interfered with the game.

Spoiler

Hope the Spoiler worked.  Shows some lines I have never seen in baldur.ini before.  I do know where the  Cache Size=1000 and I always used Path Search Nodes=400000 came from.  I know I did not use those numbers.

Hi Leonardo and :

First, good news.  I have 6 TB and all is working well.  Here is how it works with Windows 7.  (My apologies to all those who know this.)  You need a BIOS which uses both UEFI and Legacy formats.  Install the large e hard drive.  I have a 4 TB hard drive. In Computer Management, open up Disk Management.  On your large hard drive, go to the extreme left window and click on it.  It will show you all the options to convert the large hard drive from MBR to GPT.  Then convert the GPT drive to as many partitions as you want. Instructions are also there.

Now for the bad news. I installed a megamod game in E:\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\.  After the game installed, the BGConfig.exe and Baldur.exe looked like the older Baldur's Gate not the Throne of Bhaal style when I opened them to config and start the game.  When I went back to  my Desktop, I found the baldur.ini file on it, not in the game???  I opened up the baldur.ini and here is what I found.

[Config]

CacheSize=1024

[Program Options]

Path Search Nodes=50000

That all there was.  I had started a game after I installed BGII - SoA and it worked well.  I put the balder.ini from my test run in the game.  It had 141 lines of code.  When I went to start the game, the game would not start because the game would not recognize the Throne of Bhaal CD,

At the beginning of the game installation, the cachesize=10000 and Path Search Nodes=400000 were the values.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them.

I will reinstall BGII - SoA and Throne of Bhaal.  Then I will check the game as frequently as I can so I can identify where there is a problem.

Hi DivideByo.  Hi The Imp.

Thank you for the information.  But as usual there is always a snag.  I just realized that my computer only works with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.  I guess I will start to search out a new computer or a new motherboard.  I never use the C:\ drive for anything but the OS.

Hi All:

After 4 days, Microsoft technicians were unable to install my Windows 7 updates so I could finish loading Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  Their final advice was to reinstall it again.

I looked through BWP. The only comments about using Windows 10 for a BGT game warned that Windows 10 may have game compatibility problems.

If you used Windows 10 for BGT games, does it work?   Any problems with some mods?  I have real problems because my computer only works with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

I would greatly appreciate any comments about Windows 10 and BGT games.

I guess the only thing to try is a reinstall with multiple Windows 7 disks, both 64 bit and 32 bit and see if any work.

Thanks for any help,

Tom

Hi Leonardo:

I greatly appreciate your help.  I just found another typo in individual.bat in v18.2.3.  The 'wheels' line is only a marker to where the error is.  There is one "(" and two ")" in the section that installs Tactics #0.

Call %EINST% wheels "0"

findstr /I /M "REVISEDBATTLES.TP2~.*#.*#16./ BGT.TP2~.*#.*#0./" %ELOG%>nul
                    if errorlevel 1 (
                                        %IFNS%BP.exe Call %EINSTI% Tactics "0"
                    )
)

My main computer still needs repairs with updates.  I have spent hours with level 2 MS techs trying to install updates. Great fun!

Hi Leonardo:

I have temporary stopped creating a new megamod game because I am waiting for Microsoft to call and fix my two computers. This gave me time to look through mods and other BWP stuff.

I found this:

:PREVIEW
SET EINST=".\%BWIPS%\preview.bat"             Translates to:    ".\BiG World Installpack\source\preview.bat"
SET EINSTI=".\%BWIPS%\preview.bat"            Translates to:    ".\BiG World Installpack\source\preview.bat"

It appears that %EINST% and %EINSTI% perform the same function.  Therefore I will ignore the fact they look different but probably perform the same function.
