Fine!

 

I suspect the culprit is the new AUTO_TRA command : before v249, it did not handle variables, which I used in this update to avoid overwriting tra file after converting them into UTF-8 for EE games. So using a previous WeiDU version is definitively not recommended.

 

The good news is that I won't spend time to release a fix. ;)

Bad news... I installed the English version without any issue :

The mod was downloaded here.

 

As far as I can see from your debug file, WeiDU can't read associated tra files when compiling dialog files. The only relevant clue is the WeiDU version number. Versions 248 and 249 releases came with a lot of new or improved features that I used in this update.

So, the only advice I can give you is:

 

- Delete this mod from your game folder

- Download it again (using the above link)

- Extract it in your game folder

- When installing, be sure WeiDU version is 249 (as displayed in the first row of my setup windows).

 

It should install fine.

Hello,

 

Back from a long break far away from my home and from modding.

 

Which version did you install? And where did you DL it?

 

1. There is something weird in your debug file : WeiDU v 24700. It should be WeiDU v 24900.

 

2. Before releasing this version, I installed it in a BGT installation in French, Russian and Italian. So I don't understand what's happening. I will try to reproduce this bug tonight and let you know how to fix it. ;)

 

And don't uncomment the tra file: these strrefs are deprecated.

Yes I know...

 

I also don't like modifying content, and it is the very first time I do it, and I hope, the last time. :blush:

 

Unfortunately, as said in the change log section, it was impossible to resize the original portrait to EE size without pixelling. I searched through the web and did not find any pictures that might help me. So I decided to take the PPE ones, otherwise EE compatibility would have failed. But...

 

There is a legacy sub-folder in the mod top folder where I stored all original content I modified : old readme, wav files (I converted them to ogg format), unused scripts, the two components GB removed from his mod AND... the original portraits. If you play original BG2, copy them into your override folder. ;)

For Baldur's Gate fans, 2022 will bring a lot of updates, new translations of old mods, and their porting to EE games.

But this will remain a surprise until they are released. ;)

Only new players have probably never played oBG games. But I can assure you that if SHS Staff would announce we stop updating pre-EE mods, we would fire a revolution!


The success met by your mod and Tobex revival should convince you of the contrary. Moreover, you can't imagine how my inbox is full of requests sent by old players - always active because you can't quit the BG saga - asking for retro-compatibility updates. ;)

 

Instead of spending weeks to find more or less accurate workarounds to make new mods compatible with oBG2 (when it is possible), being able to use many new opcodes in old engine would save our time.

 

But I don't have enough technical knowledge to state if it is feasible or not, and not too tedious to achieve.

The Expanded Thief Stronghold mod (from Gebhard Blucher) has been updated and is now available with macOS and Linux support.
 
Version 3.0.0 is ToB, BGT, BG2:EE and EET compatible (thanks Gwendolyne), comes with French (JohnBob) and Italian (ilot) translations, and includes a few fixes.
 
This mod expands the thief stronghold to make it more interesting by adding new quests and importing Narlen Darkwalk and Black Lilly from the Baldur's Gate Shadow Thieves guild into Athkatla.

#611975 Downloading RR 4.92 warning

The file download link is marked in the downloads section as not working; however currently when attempting to download it, it gets blocked by windows security (detected a fairly serious trojan) -  I do not think this is a false positive as an actual trojan file was identified (and quaranteened/removed, thankfully).

 

I suggest using for now the below link to github instead, and whoever maintains these forums address the above issue:

It is a false positive. Windows Defender has been marking perfectly safe .rars and self-extracting rar executables (such as Rogue Rebalancing) as being malicious "Occamy" for some time now. A Google search result suggests it may be related to the specific compression algorithm used.

That's the reason why we did not remove the "broken link" reports: to avoid new threads in the forums. All packages in DL Center are safe and trustful.

The Kiara-Zaiya NPCs mod (from Alan M.C., Seifer and Jesara) has been updated and is now available with macOS and Linux support.
 
Version 2.0.0 is ToB, BGT, BG2:EE and EET compatible (thanks Austin and Gwendolyne), comes with a full Russian translation (Arcanecoast Team) and includes many fixes.

 

This mod introduces two joinable NPCs, Zaiya and Kiara, to your game. Zaiya is a Chaotic Good half-elven wild mage, and Kiara is a Neutral Evil human monk. Zaiya can be found inside the slaver ship (Slums District) and will join your party only if your character is of either good or neutral alignment. This is essential to the game!!! You can't start evil!! Don't cheat, bugs will lurk around if you do!
 
Kiara will join the party after you resolve some specific quests AND ZAIYA IS STILL IN YOUR PARTY - AND ALIVE -.
 
ADULT CONTENT: Note that this mod contains some love scenes between the main character and Kiara, and some <em>sex jokes</em>. I would categorize none of these as adult material, though it may hurt the sensibility of some of you. If you object to it, DO NOT PLAY THE MOD. ;)

Trovador REO (from Riojano2002) has been updated and is now available with macOS and Linux support.
 
Version 2.5.0 is BG2, ToB, BGT, BG2:EE and EET compatible (thanks Austin and Gwendolyne), and comes with a few bug fixes.
 
Volo is not the only one who knows stories worth telling. There are many troubadours and bards who travel all over Faerûn risking their lives in order to brighten up the taverns we visit.

This mod adds a very special troubadour, who, for a few gold pieces, will tell you unheard stories and even the origins of certain characters, such as the mysterious Riojano, or Artemis Entreri.You can find him in Waukeen Promenade. It also adds a shop with curious objects. It is available in Spanish only.

Beyond the Law (from Zyraen) has been updated and is now available with macOS and Linux support.
 
Version 2.0.0 is BG2, ToB, BGT, BG2:EE and EET compatible (thanks Austin and Gwendolyne), and comes with many bug fixes.

This mod introduces two joinable NPCs, Kova and Kiyone, to your game:

  • Kova is a Chaotic Good Half-Elf mage/thief with an unsavoury background and good heart (or so he claims).
  • Kiyone is a Lawful Good Half-Elf female, law-enforcing, impartial (or so she claims) archer.

They will only show up if:

  • Your character is of either good or neutral alignment.
  • Your character's reputation rises above 12, and you are still in Chapter 2.

 
This mod looks into proving one man's innocence against the odds, and highlights the unlikely yet strong bond formed between the two people, so different yet so much alike.
BTL also examines many of our concepts of good & evil, right & wrong, justice & forgiveness, courage & despair, means & ends, and most importantly, perhaps, what it means to really live, and to find a purpose in that, amidst this journey of self-discovery between these two NPCs.

The Arnel's Nalia Romance Revision mod (from Arnel) has been updated and is now available with macOS and Linux support.
 
This mod adds a complete romance with Nalia, including the tree of life dialogs, beloved one in danger, Nalia's abduction by Bodhi, and other love related quests. It also adds some new quests and character interactions. Having Minsc in the party is recommended... ;)

The Saradas Magic mod for BG2 has been updated and is now available with macOS and Linux support.
 
Version 2.0.0 offers a backward native classic BG2:ToB compatibility, is EET compatible, and includes many fixes.

Yes, this is only reason to install orig TobEx package
 


Maybe we should work on finding a safe way for mods to detect TobEx (with AND without TobEx Afterlife) and include it into the readme.

Tell me if I am wrong, but what I understood is that TobEx Afterlife adds new features to original TobEx and fixed those that did not work. If I am right, in middle-long term, once mods needing TobEx to be installed before them would be updated, there would be no logical need to install both TobEx, but only your version.
