#181715 Experience Limit?

Posted by CBisson on 14 January 2005 - 04:15 PM in Check the Bodies

There was another post like this some time ago.  I've never been able to find out the cause- and thus haven't devised a solution- as to why CtB limits the xp cap.

I do know that:

a) CtB does not directly alter the XPCAP.2DA or any file that would inherently limit experience.
B) CtB does not directly alter BGMAIN.EXE or any game engine file- (other than gui game files).
c) weidu biff's the CtB game files at the end of the install.  I believe but cannot prove that it is somewhere in here that the problem is created: not by CtB or weidu directly, but in the way that the new CHITIN.KEY file is created and overwritten by weidu.

So, to briefly summarize and close the topic, I don't know why a game with a CtB install limits xp.   Because of that, I don't know how to fix it and I don't know how to actually investigate it further.  I haven't even been able to come up with a viable workaround.

#181714 Auto-biffing the .tis files

Posted by CBisson on 14 January 2005 - 04:07 PM in Check the Bodies

Hey CB, long time it has been. Congrats on working things out in this fine mod!  :D

I just made an auto-biffing program for the new bp-bgt elements: CtB, DSotSC, BG1NPCBGT, and SoBH. Included in this is the biffing capability for the CtB .tis files. If you are interested in the .bat files that accomplish this, for a future update of CtB--simply let me know, and I'll e-mail them to you. You'd have to fish out the non-CB entries, but you are the only one using the CB prefix (something that proved very useful when originally building BP ;) ).

Horred-

If I recall correctly, .tis's in the override require the header and biffed .tis's don't (or vice versa).  CtB uses the override method, so have the header (or don't as above- I don't remember which way it's supposed to go.)  As long as your proggie accounts for this, then sure, send it along.  I'm sure you still have my mail; if not let me know as I can't find yours.

#179549 Unofficial SoS Patches and Fixes

Posted by CBisson on 05 January 2005 - 07:15 PM in Shadows over Soubar

Unofficial response:  I am impressed with your effort to redo the graphics for a mod that's quite outdated.  Well done.

Official response:  If I were ever to rebuild SoS as a weidu mod (which is not bloody likely), I'd ask you for permission to throw in the fixes.

#174456 ? Parse Problem with V150

Posted by CBisson on 10 December 2004 - 05:23 PM in Check the Bodies

Whenever you get "parsing errors" regarding files that aren't actually "Parsed", like .sto, .ids, .wav, etc, don't worry about it. It's just weidu "farting" and won't mess up the install.

Regarding the script parsing (aptp2BLD.BAF), both the proper script command and .tra entry (# 550171) appear in the correct files. I'm not sure why you would have gotten that error.

#173693 please HELP it keeps crashing during instail.

Not quite. CtB uses version 165, the most current is 166, but the changes between the two shouldn't affect CtB.

#173685 Candlekeep Modded Test

Geez, people continue to get frustrated at doing all the chores and beg for it to be changed, so when I do, no one has any feedback?

#173672 please HELP it keeps crashing during instail.

Posted by CBisson on 06 December 2004 - 11:28 AM in Check the Bodies

I'll put this here for reference, but it also goes with other's posts about installation problems.

I'm not sure what I want- or can- do about this, other than skipping the final CtB step. One of the problems I've noticed is that when weidu biff's CtB files, it causes the ability to properly uninstall CtB correctly to "break". For some reason, uninstalling CtB will either leave the biffs in the data directory and delete the override files CtB installs or delete the biffs in the data directory and leave the override files. In either case, fortunately the CHITIN.KEY file is replaced to it's pre-CtB state. So, what does this mean? Well, CtB biff's some files that may be in your override that aren't supposed to be biffed, especially if another mod was installed that follows CtB's naming convention (can happen particularly with TBP as it has SOS files that follow my naming scheme). So the files that CtB biffs go "missing" from your override during install and then aren't replaced at uninstall, causing issues. This is a problem, and I haven't figured out a workaround yet.

So, for every version of CtB that you've installed, it doesn't cleanly uninstall the previous version properly. *And it's not quite my fault!*

I guess that the best way to make sure that that doesn't happen is to completely uninstall BGII and all your other mods and do a completely fresh install with every CtB version, which I know can be a pain if you have a bunch of other mods, but I don't know how else to help you out or a better way of doing it. I wish I did.

#173669 DIALOG.TLK problem

Yes, what Hlid said.

Make sure that you install the downloaded .exe to your BGII - SoA directory so that the installed files look like the picture on the website- (Instruction page)- and then run "Setup-CtB***.exe"

#173668 possible bug

Posted by CBisson on 06 December 2004 - 11:03 AM in Check the Bodies

That should happen to all your npc's in a Single Player game and all party members except for Player1 in a Multiplayer game *while* Player1 is in Candlekeep. After Player1 goes through the automatic "flashback" movies, it should not happen. Can you tell me when you experienced the problem based on the above info?

#173217 Harper's Harp

Posted by CBisson on 03 December 2004 - 08:58 PM in Check the Bodies

Yes, it is broken, but not as badly as you think. The item calls for spell SPWI840 to be cast, which is named "mind blank". However, it should call for spell SPWI841 which is called "iron skins". So, a) I have the spell being called wrong, and B) I named the spells incorrectly. Thanks for picking up on this.

#172724 Candlekeep Modded Test

Posted by CBisson on 30 November 2004 - 04:19 PM in Check the Bodies

To clear up some confusion folks have messaged me about:

a) This is a small "mini-mod". If you've CtB installed, it will overwrite the files. If you don't have CtB installed, it won't do a thing. All it's going to overwrite are a few dialogs and scripts. No need to reinstall CtB.

B) In order to get to Candlekeep, obviously you'll have to start a new game, but it won't affect any other saves (except your Auto-Save) and won't mess up the game files. It's more like a "hot fix", but since Candlekeep is in the beginning of the game, you'd need to start the new game.

#172566 Candlekeep Modded Test

Posted by CBisson on 30 November 2004 - 12:27 AM in Check the Bodies

I've done up three different methods for Candlekeep, and am putting up a quick install to get some feedback. The link is below.

Take note, I won't be "supporting" this as such, but the feedback I get here will of course help me to make it better for the actual CtB build. I left voting open for two weeks; I'll leave this open for about two weeks, so maybe by then I'll have it fleshed out pretty well.

Tell me what you think.

#171009 Bug Report

Posted by CBisson on 22 November 2004 - 11:46 AM in Check the Bodies

I'll look into the pantaloons issue.

Kinda odd that I kept those scrolls for 10 years

Yup, I suppose so. I'll fix that straightaway for the next build.

#170536 XPCAP.2DA and weidu and CHITIN.KEY

Posted by CBisson on 20 November 2004 - 01:16 PM in IE Help

Wes-

Some folks are having problems with the experience cap in BGII-ToB and I was hoping you could take a look at this tread and then a weidu'ified CHITIN.KEY and see if you know anything about it.

Thanks,

CB

#170534 Experience Point Bug

Posted by CBisson on 20 November 2004 - 01:14 PM in Check the Bodies

A) I repeat once again: CtB doesn't touch the XPCAP.2DA file. If you install BGII/ToB and patch it as a stand alone released game, the file will go into your override with a 2,950,000 cap. That's Bioware's rule, not mine.

B) Of course, you can alter the file to up it to say 8mill if you want with a text editor and change it.

C) CTB uses Weidu to BIFF files, but the XPCAP.2da remains in your override. However, it appears that with a CtB install, the game engine is not reading that file as it will automatically default down to the 2.95mill.

D) I ran a couple of tests on my own with a new character. Upped the xp via the console to 1m, saved, loaded, and the char was at 1mill. Upped the xp via the console to 2mill, saved, loaded, and the char was at 2mill. Upped the xp via the console to 3mill, saved, loaded, and the char was at 2.95mill at level 18. Upped the xp via the console to 3.3mill (paladin class), saved, loaded, and the char was at 2.95 mill at level 19. Upped the xp via the console to 3.6mill, saved, loaded, and the char was at 2.95mill at level 20. This was all with the XPCAP.2DA file in the override with a cap of 8mill.

E) Refreshed the cache/chitin to a patched ToB (no CtB) and started a new game/new character. Ran the same tests and had no problems with the *SAME* XPCAP.@DA in the override folder.

F) Came to the conclusion that somehow weidu is changing the cap. You can see that with the "Guest"s post above.

new ctb-chitin.key:
HEX: 0000005850434150202000F40361000000584C4556454C0000F40362
Text: XPCAP XLEVEL

original chitin.key:
HEX: 0000005850434150000000F4036100000058504C4556454C00F40362
Text: XPCAP XPLEVEL

What does that all mean? I don't know. However, I do know that CtB doesn't even come with any file that would limit a players xp. Now, I'm not saying specifically that it's weidu's fault. What weidu does is biff the files at the very end, but it doesn't touch the XPCAP.2DA file in itself. The new chitin.key file that weidu creates is funky, and causes the XPCAP.@DA file in the override to be 'ignored'. Why?- I don't know. As the above quote, I do not recommend changing any of those hex bytes as it could SERIOUSLY screw up your game or install or even your computer. In the meantime, I don't know what to say aobut it, but we'll forward this thread to Wes and see what he can glean from all of that.

That's all for now.

Sounds like it's your XPCAP.2DA file. CtB doesn't touch that. In fact, neither SoS nor CtB touches that file.

#170216 Unsanctioned use...

Posted by CBisson on 18 November 2004 - 06:48 PM in Check the Bodies

Do I have to complete all the mage stronghold quests, too? I just did the "main" kill-Lavok-escape-sphere quest. Or is this a heiniously evil, still-unfixed from V148, spleen-punching bug??

All of the super-class quests require the player to either have a stronghold or near to completion of the original stronghold quests. In thecase of the planer sphere stronghold quests, if memory serves, it becomes "active" upon surviving the ambush.

I do have a minor bug you might want to be aware of: after Valiant rewards you, you are unable to talk to him (I.E. he has nothing to say to you), and subsequently, unable to purchase from him.

Thank you. I will look into it.

Well, almost. Once more question: what is the difference between Masterworks items and normal versions of items? Is it just a brand name?

Yeah. It's the Icewind Dale II Incorporated brand name (shhhhh).

#169879 CTD at Windspear Hills

Posted by CBisson on 16 November 2004 - 04:43 PM in Check the Bodies

I rechecked the area files. All is in order for a BGII-CtB install.

As to the double module in AR1200.BCS, it is doubled because this area requires the first script module to have the trigger oNcREATION() [inverted caps intended here] and CtB adds a module to that script's top, requiring me to duplicate the module. It wouldn't have any effect on the loading of the area.

For the original problem,

I am almost certain that the extra bytes in ar1200.are were the xy coordinates for the vertices.

, your statement leads me to believe that the extra bytes were tossed into the area file because of multiple installs of CtB and the unpatched file was not replaced, but amended more than once.

Sure seems like it.

Like you said:

Started new game (wasn't that far), and found Melynda again. She needs something to write on...and she points to the bar.

But there isn't anything near the bar, or in the CC that she can write on (she refuses to write on scrolls. *cough* spoiled *cough*).

Is this what you meant by finding the two people that can help her? Will I have to find someone with some paper?

I won't answer that question.

Or did I screw up again and break another quest?

View Post

Nope. You didn't screw up.

#169466 Unsanctioned use...

From the CtB Website:

#  Melynda

    * Melynda can be found in the Copper Coronet.  However, the folks that you have to talk with in order to help her are much more elusive.  As of version 145, there is only a "good" version of this quest.  I had intended to make it a good or evil quest, but never did.  Perhaps some day I will.

If you're looking for her because some Cowls told you to, you're taking the "evil" path and will *never* find her. If you're looking for a mage because *A* Cowl told you to, then you're going to have to look much more "well" than you have and perhaps even look "down" to your feet as you walk around Athkatla.

#169462 parsing_parse.error when installing CTB

Posted by CBisson on 14 November 2004 - 04:02 PM in Check the Bodies

That's a new one on me as well as a bunch of other folks I'd guess. Most haven't had any problems installing since the "updated" tp2. I rechecked that line as well as above and below, and don't see anything out of order. Try re-downloading the .tp2 file and install again. See if that helps.
