#580404 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by Valikdu on 10 August 2015 - 11:00 AM in Mega Mod Help

I have the same problem as Chasington and Valikdu, in that the Web spell animation destroys my framerate and makes the game pretty much unplayable. The fixes here didn't work for me either.

So I went into NearInfinity and looked at my own character's Web spell, and saw that it was using the spell animation file spwi215.spl. Then I went to my installation directory and searched for that file. 13 versions came up, different backups in different mod folders. four of them were 1kb in size, three were 2 kb in size, and six of them were 14 or 15kb. I copied all of them into the override and then loaded up the game to see what the animations showed. Here's my results:

  • spell_rev\spwi2##\spwi215.spl: 874 bytes. Showed standard bg2 webs going out in a spread on spell cast. No actual animations on the ground. Half the original spell? Or maybe I'm just in the Copper Coronet?
  • !BInfinitySounds\Backup\1\SPWI215.SPL: 874 bytes. Same deal as above. Pretty predictable based on the same byte size.
  • iwdification\backup\30\SPWI215.SPL: 13.2 kb. Framerate-killing Entangle-looking glowing crap with a fog effect. Exactly the kinda thing I want to avoid.
At this point I didn't want to go through every single file, because its obvious that the large file sizes are the ones that fuck up the game. In the end I went with the 874 byte one that I found at first. It works and doesn't mess up the game.

I've put one of the 1Kb files into Override. The trap webs don't screw up the game anymore, but the spider webs are still the crap ones.

#580403 [Removed] Sandrah NPC

Um... Horizons puts overleveled assassins armed with ToB gear into the main plot places (like the road to Beregost, or the Nashkel mines, and more). Even if you don't want to do it, it will do you.

I'm not sure why, but the BWS installer thinks that, for example, Dark Horizons is mandatory for the world map component. And the "creatures and items" component requires Bonehill (although that's ok, as Bonehill isn't thrust in your face like Horizons).

Could you split the crossmod component into different components for different mods?

I don't want to deal with Dark Horizons' overpowered Section agents and their bad dialogues. And TDD is interfering with NEJ2 components which I want to have. So, I'd like to not have to install these mods, but I have to if I'm to have any crossmod content at all...

Also, could you rename "consistent Imoen" as "consistent mage Imoen"? It sort of causes confusion. And maybe spilt the her new portrait into an additional component, because that's a really good portrait.

#580352 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

This is about 10th time I'm trying to install BWS. I'M NOT STOPPING FOR ONE SHOP MOD, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT'S PAST SCS ALREADY.

Also, this happened:

ERROR: Failure("resource [NATALK9.cre] not found for 'COPY'")
Item and XP Balancing for 'Northern Tales of the Sword Coast (v1.70a)' -> Also randomly remove SOME overpowered custom items (will not affect quest relevanted items) (BP-Balancer (Beta)) was not installed due to errors.

and later

ERROR: [./override/ISHXAR9.wav] has size 20666924: TOO BIG FOR WEIDU (max 16777211)
ERROR: error loading [./override/ISHXAR9.wav]
ERROR: [./override/DGMAIN.wav] has size 21135920: TOO BIG FOR WEIDU (max 16777211)

ERROR: illegal 8-byte read from offset -248617990 of 25474-byte file F_6666.ARE
ERROR: [F_6666.ARE] -> [override/F_6666.ARE] Patching Failed (COPY) (Failure("F_6666.ARE: read out of bounds"))
ERROR: Failure("F_6666.ARE: read out of bounds")
Area Stuff - MAJESTIC Area Fixer (LolFixer) was not installed due to errors.

Also, one of the "flashback" cutscenes in BGII (Check the Bodies?) became bugged, the one where Sarevok is killed. Nobody's doing anything, but your character appears there and is controllable.

Also also, anyone have an idea of which component may be changing Imoen into a mage from the start? The search didn't find anything obvious.

#580295 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

For some reason, the new BWS install I've made (using the same installer, 20150302) has a very incomplete set of spells. I don't think there's any mod-added ones (mage or divine), and half the vanilla (divine) spells are missing.

Maybe that's the result of using an incomplete SpellPack?

I still have the old one, though... Could you please describe what animation file I need to replace?

I've tried to do this,

The other way to probably fix it is to undo the change by:

copy d0spiweb.spl from the spellpackb6/backup/1203 folder into override
-folder.

did not work unfortunately.

Oh what the hell

...I guess it wasn't close enough for the saves.

Well, I've instead resolved to make another install and try to make it as close as possible so the saves would work.

They worked; and removing the Web component of the Spell Pack is indeed the solution.

I'm not sure... I've checked all the spiders with Shadowkeeper, they've got empty magic tables.

Could you tell me what to do with NearInfinity? I'm afraid to break something with it.

Fireballs sort of work on the main big pile of web, but the web effects on characters persist indefinitely. And if a webbed character is hit by a fireball, well, they DIE.

So, can I disable the web effects on this installation? Maybe with a tool, like NearInfinity?

#580253 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by Valikdu on 07 August 2015 - 06:30 PM in Mega Mod Help

I managed to install Tactics with BWS and after hours into the game I thought it was bug free until I came across web entangle that was cast by a wraith spider in a cave east of Beregost Temple. The spell persists until the end of time, slows down the frame-rate to a crawl, and if any of your characters are caught in it, the graphic stays on you forever, not allowing you to save or rest - EVER AGAIN! It's pretty much game-breaking and at this point so is the tactics install.

Um... I've just ran into this too.

Is it possible to fix this somehow without re-installing? I'm many hours into the game already. Maybe, I don't know... edit all the web abilities so they do nothing, as a temp solution?

Since the Silver Star mod apparently breaks some dialogs if the character isn't joined, maybe it could be marked as Expert?

I don't have Imoen Romance; it was incompatible with NEJ's Continuous Imoen + exclusive kit component. I have that one.

#579655 BiG World Setup (an attempt to update the program)

Posted by Valikdu on 23 July 2015 - 03:51 AM in Mega Mod Help

I've tried to start a new BG2 game as a test after making a tactical mega mod install. I'm shown the cutscene for the Worgas mod (Worgas breaking out of Spellhold), then he appears in a cage and then... nothing happens. Imoen doesn't unlock my cage and I can't get out.

well, time to reinstall again...

Does she(Imoen) still appear/walk to be next to your cell door ?

She doesn't. The only thing that happens after the cutscene is the special effects on Worgas (who is in the furthest cell), then nothing.

SCStratagems V30 is problematic.

ERROR: illegal 2-byte read from offset 7826 of 7826-byte file SPWI317.SPL
ERROR: [SPWI317.SPL] -> [override] Patching Failed (COPY) (Failure("SPWI317.SPL: read out of bounds"))
ERROR: [stratagems/ds/cddetect.2da] -> [override] Patching Failed (COPY) (Failure("SPWI317.SPL: read out of bounds"))
ERROR: Failure("SPWI317.SPL: read out of bounds")
Initialise mod (all other components require this) (Sword Coast Stratagems) was not installed due to errors.

Tried to install BWS two times, it happened each time.

Tried to skip over all the SCS bits this time, after a lot of skips the installer had just crashed.

...actually, I can't install Stratagems V30 even as a standalone, from its own installer.

EDIT: I think this is the solution. I tried searching for that particular .SPL file mentioned, found this:

Yes, I confirm, this error occurs if before IWDification and SCS is already installed SpellPack's component #2317 'Ghost Armor' in combination with 1pp's component #202 'Spell tweaks'. Individually, they do not cause this error. The solution is to either not installing one of these components, or moving installation 1pp's 'Spell tweaks' after IWDification and SCS, as it was in the previous version of the BWP.

#571664 I'm confused. Is there a BG2 component, or not?

Some places say there is, some not. Which one is it?

#571291 Set a Dual Class via a tool - how?

Posted by Valikdu on 16 August 2014 - 09:37 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

There's a problem.

I'm using a 'tactical' BWP assembly, currently in the BGI campaingn. I want to dual class Imoen into a mage. But, after choosing to dual class and picking a weapon proficiency, I see the window that should let me pick learned spells; only, instead of level 1, it's somehow "level 10" and it's empty; there's nothing to pick and I can't bypass that window. I don't know where this comes from.

Is there a way to edit in a dual class for a character? I can't find that option in Shadowkeeper, if it exists; only multiclass.

#571284 Viconia Revamped

Posted by Valikdu on 16 August 2014 - 04:05 AM in Miscellaneous Released Mods

I'm using the version where Viconia is a dual class. Now she's reached lvl 7 in the Nightcloak of Shar class, but the lvl 7 Thief is still inactive. What to do?
