#489342 Music Tutorial

Posted by Amazor'dra on 07 June 2010 - 11:59 AM in IE Help

Aha, so something had been made in the past couple years to fix that. I wonder how many modders/downloaders know to use it, though.

#489339 Music Tutorial

Posted by Amazor'dra on 07 June 2010 - 11:23 AM in IE Help

I'll take the lack of responses as a resounding 'no.'

Did anyone ever create an updated version of this tutorial?

^This tutorial is bad. Especially for these days. The oggdec and most of the.tp2 portion is still relevant I suppose, but not when you reach this part:

COPY ~mymod/j#blank.mus~ ~music~
COPY_EXISTING ~songlist.2da~ ~override~
SET_2DA_ENTRY 0 2 3 ~J#BLANK.MUS~

As has been explained to me, there is only a limited amount of space within songlist.2da, and while the 0 entry is for no music, as far as I know you don't have to override the file to get it to work. And, some of the older mods like Saerlith will take up enough slots that if another mod with sound would be installed using the same method, the songlist.2da would be copied over yet again, losing all the sound info from the first installed mod. Not a big deal if modders keep the 0 entry as no music and always use the same J# for the name, but the tutorial doesn't go into what else was done back then.

Especially when older mods then add something like this:

REPLACE_TEXTUALLY 123456 ~%MYMUSIC%~
COPY_EXISTING ~J#KlsyD.bcs~ ~override/J#KlsyD.bcs~
REPLACE_TEXTUALLY 123456 ~%MYMUSIC%~

Adding more than a blank music file, and potentially screwing up the sound between mods even more. Unlike with custom animations and whathaveyou, there isn't a list of which mods are using what slot in regards to sound, raising the chance of incompatibility.

So! Very bad idea. Or I could be completely wrong, you never know. If in that case then this really does need to be updated, preferably by someone with a better understanding with the way certain things are coded nowdays, especially for the newer folks to cause less confusion.

Thank you. Fixed.

Next time, perhaps. :P

So, um, to be clear the only thing that needed to be corrected was the area references in the j file for the Neht mod? I just went over it and cleaned up at least the majority of the typos, I'd hate to have to go through the entire file again in case something wasn't simply mentioned. Posted Image

#488686 PLT Files

Posted by Amazor'dra on 30 May 2010 - 09:18 AM in IE Help

From the additional info hunting that I've done about this, some slots are said to be more receptive to bams than plts. If it helps any, besides my own custom plt I specifically tried out CHMWINV.plt from Moinesse Avatars and an exported version of CEMF1INV.plt

#488666 Orphan Characters

While rummaging through old Neht files I stumbled across something I had completely forgotten about. An idea for an NPC when I had gotten tired of Yet-Another-Good-Drow and the lack of love for evil PCs, especially evil female PCs who happened to be rogues. Maybe if a certain wraith mod ever gets fully completed I'll work on this, but I doubt it. So, this NPC is up for adoption. This is also more of a ToB mod, despite being able to run into this character in SoA.

Name: Valrak Kilrahel
Age: 113
Race: Drow
Class: Rogue, possibly Assassin
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Religion: Lloth
Str: 14
Dex: 18
Con: 12
Int: 14
Wis: 12
Chr: 13
Bio: After being repeatedly nudged to talk about himself, Valrak glares and gives a few choice curses in Drow, but eventually explains in halting surface Common he is the third son of a minor House, with little in the way of aspirations beyond killing one of his older brothers to become 2nd Boy, and so less likely to become cannon fodder in the dark elves' many skirmishes. He describes in obvious relish some of the bloodier battles he had taken part in, with the killing of surface elves spoken of in pride. Valrak doesn't seem inclined to go into the details of his race's culture, but he makes it perfectly obvious that being on the surface with a bunch of surfacers is the last thing he ever wanted to do.

___
The PC was to first run into Valrak near the fighting pits/whathaveyou in Ust Natha, where it is first possible to talk and possibly get to know him, saying new things as the PC progresses through that chapter of the game. It isn't possible to actually recruit him until the PC travels through the tunnels where surface and dark elves are fighting each other. Badly injured and without the strength to resist, the PC has the option of tying him up and keeping him alive to possibly be questioned.

Like with Viconia, it is possible for Elhan to force a geas onto Valrak, making the drow beholden to the PC and forced to talk of what he might know of where Bodhi may have hidden the device to open up Suldenesslar. From then on, Valrak has to obey any direct order given by the PC.

__
  • Evil PCs could tell him to kill various characters.
  • Could be asked to create various poisons.
  • Good PCs could try to get him to "mend his ways", but would fail miserably.
  • IF (and a big if!) he was made romanceable, it would be of female evil PCs who are not surface elves.
  • Unless specifically ordered not to, he'd attack Aerie, Viconia, Jaheira, and Solaufein.

__
Special Equipment:
Duel-wield a whip and short sword.

#488612 PLT Files

Posted by Amazor'dra on 29 May 2010 - 10:58 AM in IE Help

Thank you for the advice. I was able to get the fire elemental paperdoll to work, but not the drow one. None of these file names seemed to work, even when I exported an existing plt to try to attach to: mdroinv, mdro1inv, mdro2inv, mdro3inv, mdro4inv, mdro11inv, mdroginv, mdrog1inv, mdrog2inv, mdrog3inv, mdrog3inv, mdrog4inv... well, you get the picture. With Infinity Animations installed.

Looks like I'll be having to create at least one custom animation slot with my own naming scheme. Just as well, I suppose.

#488568 PLT Files

Posted by Amazor'dra on 28 May 2010 - 11:16 PM in IE Help

How would you go about attaching a paperdoll (plt file) to an existing Animation ID?

For example, DROW - 32551 or ELEMENTAL_FIRE - 29456 both have functional avatars, but lack paperdolls. I've already created the necessary plts, it's just the matter of figuring out how to attach them.

From what I looked through the mod Longer Road, they've managed to create a paperdoll for Irenicus, and it looks like they had to create a custom spell out of it, but I am not 100% certain.

Help please. :)
