#540201 Who was satisfied with the ME 3 ending(s)? (Spoilers)

Posted by Scipio on 23 April 2012 - 05:01 AM in Mass Effect Series

I haven't played ME3 and doubt if I ever will, but it appears the ending is globally disappointing.

#539811 BG Mage Guide

Posted by Scipio on 17 April 2012 - 09:59 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

I say well done, Suslik, your guide is a very good overview of how to play either a mage or a sorcerer. It took me quite a few play-throughs to understand the most efficient way to use either a mage or a sorcerer.

I haven't played solo with any class. The best I've done is to get through SoA with myself as a fighter-thief accompanied by my darling Aerie, who becomes a mighty priest-mage at higher levels.

We probably all develop our own sets of strategies. I use similar protection methods to yours, but for offense I do a lot of summoning. From the first skeleton warrior who knocks the stuffing out of mind-flayers, the summoned allies just keep getting better. They substitute very well for the tank NPC if necessary. They often die quite quickly, but by then I've usually knocked down the enemy defences.

#539455 Stupid question but.. what is the Big Picture?

Posted by Scipio on 13 April 2012 - 01:55 AM in Big Picture

I'm not entirely sure what the Big Picture does though. Does it actually add anything to the game?

Hey, Seager. Your heading for this thread starts: "Stupid question but...."
There are NO stupid questions about installing or using mods offered through SHS. If you're not sure about anything in this respect, asking is the obvious, sensible and acceptable thing to do.
Some people may urge you to look for information about a mod on this site before you post a question. That's not always easy. There is such a huge amount of helpful info on SHS that it can be a challenge to find exactly what you're looking for.

Amelyssan is much prettier than the other two.

#539096 Why nobody should get Imoen Romance

Posted by Scipio on 09 April 2012 - 05:34 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

I played both mods and both were good.

I decided the Imoen romance wasn't incest because she and <CHARNAME> had different mothers, their father is a god who wouldn't have human DNA, and therefore the two Bhaalspawn were as biologically unrelated as any two other random people. That was just a thought that came to me idly, by the way, because the relationship was never an issue for me in a game environment.

The Saerileth romance isn't kiddie porn. The Forgotten Realms echo an era of Western human civilisation when a girl who wasn't married by the age of 15 was a spinster, and marriages were routinely arranged between young teenage first cousins.

I've played as a half-orc and romanced humans, half-elves, elves and a tiefling. Should we stay away from inter-species relationships, which are technically as "creepy" as the Imoen and Saerileth mods?

Heck, I would romance a carrion crawler if it added something new, interesting and well-written to the games I played over and over. They are, after all, JUST GAMES. There was a much higher "porn" content when Janet Jackson's boob slipped out on TV at Superbowl.

** Scipio is a 62-year-old grandfather who considers Madonna to be a young babe. In real life he would no more want to "romance" any teen- or twenty-something than he would take up kick-boxing. Put him in a computer game, however, and he happy assumes the digital persona of a callow swords-and-boards adventurer, a racing driver or a laser-toting commando... because IT'S JUST A GAME, dammit.

#533330 Forum upgrade complete!

Scrolling in Chrome should be a lot better now and the background image is still there, so there's that.

Thanks, khayman, my good fellow. The site sings in Chrome now.

Anyone else experiencing very sluggish scrolling? I didn't experience this prior to the downtime.

Windows XP
Firefox 3.6.25

It's 2012, who uses XP anymore? :P

{I knew somebody was gonna say that.}
I do!

Apparently still has a third of 'market share'. And the best version of FF for it is 3.6.x.

Try Pale Moon, an optimized build for XP.

Many big companies use XP because it works fine with their networks and their other software, such as Photoshop 7 -- still about the best version of PS that Adobe released. Many Win 7 users have to run older software in XP mode.
For home users it's not just about the cost of Win 7 alone, it's that it's too big to run on older PCs that work perfectly with XP. At this moment I'm using an Acer laptop that came with XP but now has Win 7. The OS takes about half the total RAM, which can't be increased in this lovely but dinky notebook.

Nice work, guys. Some tweaking will always be needed after a site redesign. It looks great to me. I'll live with the slowness on Chrome until you experts get around to it.

#531297 Killing a Lich

Posted by Scipio on 09 January 2012 - 05:52 PM in Baldur's Gate Series

Stay just out of visual range of the lich and send in weak summoned monsters one at a time. The lich uses his Timestop, Imprison and other big spells against your skeletons, wild dogs, etc. Once he's reduced to normal spells he becomes easy meat.

Some liches don't seem to use Timestop. Send in a Berserker -- they're immune to Imprison. Once the Berserker starts whacking the lich, the lich will focus on him, and your other characters can cast spells to strip away his immunities and magical resistance.

By the time your characters have reached higher levels and gained magical resistance they're usually able to withstand most of the nasty lich spells.

Berserkers are also great for taking out Beholders.

I most frequently played as a Berserker until I got bored with RPGs about three years ago.

#526753 greater wolfweres - argh :(

Posted by Scipio on 10 November 2011 - 12:39 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

Now then, WHAT THE F** ARE YOU DOING IN THIS FORUM ?
You say mod... and you don't post in the "Baldur's Gate I and II" sub-forum. No body sees it here.

That was a needlessly harsh and rude remark, Jarno. Not everyone knows their way around this site the way you do, being 120 years old. A courteous redirection to the appropriate forum would be more than adequate, don't you think?

#526299 BioWare's New Franchise?

I need a new multi-NPC AD&D RPG.
