#10189 Paladins in RTW

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 15 November 2002 - 08:11 AM in Return to Windspear

Finally I can post thanks to Neil :).

Raistlin: you get one from Tymora priest to give Umberlee priestesses for removing the geas from the guy who tried to kill you (you keep it he dies), the second one is under Candlekeep and the last one placed on some altar in ToSC.

Stats? Well, my last paladin was

STR 19 (forgotten when playing with Lum's machine)
DEX 12
CON 12
INT 14
WIS 21 (red 22 for the Hell)
CHA 19 (red 20 for the Hell)

I don't know why my brother thinks it's strange... Maybe because he wants super-tanks (and if you have even the same con stat, the greater sum total the less HP you get at the beginning) and I prefer PCs more like myself.

And yes, I do spend too much time on RPG, not only BG confusing this with or prefering this to reality sometimes. Even the 'chevalier des trois-Tours' is something real styled (French-like or sometimes in other languages, English, Spanish, German, Latin etc) in RPG fashion by my friends. Semper connectus! :D

Do me a favour, please: In avatar settings there's an URL to specify for the picture file. Has it be somewhere over the net or can I somehow upload my own picture?

I suppose something deadly, like kensai dualled to mage on 13 lev would suit fine. And a propos that 'pure caster' thing: you don't have to wait for all worthy bonuses (13 lev), you can choose 9 lev which is 225.000 for a fighter - one level down at most late in Tob or even dual just as you create the PC in SoA, 64000. And if you consider going through BG1 also - only 2 lev is required to dual. You thus don't lose anything (1250 exp) but have the opportunity to get as many proficiency slots as you desire for a priest and even the opportunity to use any weapon if a mage is considered. Something like Nalia who is a 4 lev thief (5000 exp only) and so is able to use katana, which is more deadly than a 2H sword. Think of it, but is indeed a (mostly) paladin forum... I suppose I should Detect Evil and then do something about the results. God guide my blade!

Aha, Raistlin: thanks for the avatar stuff. I noticed now the upload button. Damn, I'm dead blind sometimes. Now I only have to find some knight and change the face... Uh, hate that bloody dot by dot clicking on enlarged screen, esp. removing glasses.

Sir Kalthorine: This was not a spelling mistake. I don't make spelling mistakes. Maybe in ancient Greek sometimes. I thought of a PC in general and more specifically of the one Raistlin was to create i.e. someone really evil and really powerful. Besides, I didn't mean 'friends', do believe me.
You're welcome anyway :D and thanks for your Cavallier support at the poll.

Cuv: I thought over some questions we spoke of, like that of PC's being (to be) knighted or not and I've come to some conclusion. I'm ready to share the outcome...

#10349 Is the Mod ready yet?

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 17 November 2002 - 07:25 AM in Return to Windspear

they should've have read DM Options: High Level Campaigns

DM's guide for AD&D 2nd edition says that on reaching 20 level your PC should retire :)

Let them say that to Lucas the 34 level paladin (my and all my PC's name) :D

#10490 RTW FAQ's

OK, one question: Are exceedingly high stats (as 21 WIS for a human without items or cheating) to change something? Apart from rolls, of course...

Super human wisdom will allow you to see past almost any lie.  Yes, I believe there are a couple of checks that high.

Thanks so much. I believe there's going to be quite a hell lies then in RTW. And 19 charisma will allow me to lie better than others do  :D

#11082 Prestige Classes

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 24 November 2002 - 12:43 PM in IE Help

Last time I read some 2ed extension and 3ed standard manuals, I got struck with an idea of making prestige classes for BG2 with ToB installed. The only trouble is to add the prestige class features without unintentionally worsening or removing any parameter/ability already had. Aha, and 'remembering' the initial class. Anyone tried that already?

#11541 Prestige Classes

If I understand you correctly, then you could try using scripts to allow your character to gain abilities if they choose a prestige class. They will also still be identified as the original class.

Take a look at Mortis' tutorials on http://tutorials.teambg.net.

More than correctly. Thanks a lot, Sim. :) I'd also like to make it look like a multi-class feature or choosing where to assign a level. Also adjusting the hitdice for the prestige class would be possible this way... I guess it would be a good deal of heavy scripting. :(

#11661 Prestige Classes

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 28 November 2002 - 08:11 AM in IE Help

Prestige classes for ToB? If I'm not mistaken that is a 3rd edition thingy, isn't it? The way 2e's multiclassing works, that would be rather difficult, wouldn't it?

A bit... It's making multiclassing asymmetric. And allowing humans to add a second class without forfeiting the previous one. Unless one makes it like real dualling, but something should be done to prevent taking such classes at the creation screen. :( I'm afraid, I'm not good enough.

#12604 Mod Updates?

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 05 December 2002 - 02:52 PM in Return to Windspear

Peeps are certainly entitled to their opinions.

As for killing all the principles in the original encounter at Windspear... yes, you will get the evil note from Garren.    Garren was a friend to the Order, so no reason why they wouldnt come back to check on him and raise him.   While some forms of death prohibit resurrections in AD&D... we have to assume that you didnt kill him in any of those ways:D   He is important to the plot, so he is back.    But the good news is that you can kill him again... or watch him die if you like.

No matter how he dies, he's always to be raised by the (limited) wish spell, so it's not a problem. Everything can be put down divine intervention if nothing else is to be thought up.

#12618 Valen Romance

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 05 December 2002 - 04:09 PM in Valen Expansion

And what GOOD charicter would take Valen? Or side with Bhodi, for that matter?

Hehe, Lucas the Cavallier would. Normally an ethos violation, but he *does* see some chance for her redemption :D. His having 20 charisma and 22 wisdom, this *does* make any sense.

Although no siding with body. Hope it's possible to get Valen w/o Bodhi. For example if we kill Bodhi she's no longer Valen's mistress.

Anyway redemption does not necessarily mean removing vampirism. Although this could still be possible in Aumantor's temple as a part of abduction by Bodhi quest just like I did with Aerie. Suggestions only, of course, Westley Weimer's in charge.

#12620 Valen Romance

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 05 December 2002 - 04:13 PM in Valen Expansion

You think it would be trashing it. Maybe other people would actually enjoy a well written Vampire romance? Rather then just "getting into a Vampire's pants."

I fully support you. Some guys give the impression that they need a full-time whore NPC rather than a romanceable one.

Also people generally tend to believe she's a walking corpse with no personality. How narrowminded. Have you any idea of reasons behind becoming a vampire or even of there being anything more than just waking up the day after your death? The full scope of vampire's inner life is beyond standard human experience. Unless it's a far degraded vampire form, but Valen apparently isn't (those don't even speak). Does she really have to justify her actions? Before whom? You maybe? Or to care about any rationale? Sacrifice her personality, emotions and feelings for the sake of someone's ideas of her being unable to have any? Allow me please to leave those as rhetorical questions.

In case you haven't noticed, stranger things happen in real life.

This has to be the best Valen Romance idea I've ever seen. Then they can leave the party together and Wes will no longer have to listen to people whining about not-enough-Sola-content (guilty as charged) OR why-can't-I-get-lucky-with-Valen.

With your permission, I advise you to read posts before replying to them.

Maybe it's just me but I'm pretty SURE she did read the post when replying... Maybe you misunderstood Kiki's post....?? :P

I'm afraid I did not misunderstand her. I strongly insist that I am not whining nor is 'why-can't-I-get-lucky-with-Valen' an appropriate summary of what I said. Regards.

I doubt you should take that bit personally.  She's just rather whimsically summarizing all male reaction to the idea of Valen romance in the phrase.

While I agree with you, I also believe that making spiteful comments is not a good way of showing off oneself. The effect is quite contrary, I'm afraid.

#12890 Valen Romance

Posted by chevalier des Trois-Tours on 07 December 2002 - 02:06 PM in Valen Expansion

Nah. If she's American that certainly wouldn't be considered spiteful, just mildly flippant. Especially since it's just an aside - her main point being that Wes Weimer could use an Undead Sola-Valen affair to get out doing two different things that apparently he doesn't much want to do. So don't let it ruffle any feathers, my friend, because there certainly was no such intent and on these boards you've got to make allowances for that.

Even without intent, people should care about their words. Or I am stuffy and outdated. Take one of these two according to your liking.

Ya know, there is an unexcluded middle ground between the alternatives you posit.

Hehe, not quite right. Tertium non datur. Just an alternative :D But I suppose we're spamming the topic. I'm done with this I suppose.
