totaly agreed abotu greece in pre holly roman empire days, but europe being mostly a christian facist place back then ruled by an ""elite"" of monarchs and Popes was a rather nasty place for what they defined as ""Deviants" take for example the brilliant oscar wilde , He was stuffed in prison for the rest of his life and the was only around 100 years ago, it has only been recenlty that most people have begun to accept people who are Gay for what they are and not demonise them, although saddly even still you come across alot of people who think its wrong :( , when i was working at a bar i had to break up alot of fights with people who were attacking people because of there sexual prefence , which is my main point , i mean FR is a kinda Middle ages europe .

And inkeeping with the sence of roleplaying i belive that many there would be very anti this "deviance" and rather facist about it.

I mean FR is a World struck with Large scale war and oposing religions
:D its just my belife that most who in FR who were gay would either hide it totaly or do it totaly under a vail of shadows , which actualy could be a good mod :D
I mean showing how people had to fight for there basic rights
and are persecuted for such belifes , i just an a bit strict when it comes to lore and inkeeping with the roleplaying world

hehe i also mean the sexuality stuff was actualy thinking it would be a good idea to expand upon the racial tensions in the land give it more depth
and sexuality is included in that

parelels to the real world are always good , give people more to thinking about
i mean why they are attacking these orks/kobolds/Drow especialy are they evil doing something wrong or is that what your told as they are hated
but alas im a bit off topic there, but it would give alot more depth to romance mods
i mean especialy interspecies and same sex

i mean having to deal with animosity from party and non party npcs i mean the subject is touched on with Vionica but its still rare .

would realy make for alot of intresting interaction and so on
i mean you could lose reputaion points , have to fight to justify yourself to your order or god if your a paladin/cleric

From a religious and cultural standpoint, Greeko-Roman concepts should have more precidence than Christian. Technoligy, political and governemtnal wise, FR closer to Christian Europe.

Agreed on the point of deitys but the churches are more holly roman empire style
as we all know the church matters alot more than the god ;) take for example protestands vs catholics or even islam and christianity or jeudaism there basicaly the same god witha adifrent church not so much with eastern faith ;)

Quoting Zandilar:

**Warning, mild spoilers for NWN: Hordes of the Underdark, the Return of the Archwizards trilogy of Realms books, and the Baldur's Gate novel trio are contained within this message.**

Please... While the Realms do have some areas that bear a remarkable resemblance to several parts of our world, Abeir-Toril is not Earth.

Here is what Ed Greenwood himself had to say about sexuality in the Realms (you'll have to scroll down - but it's the bit specifically addressing me), and here is another post from Ed (the second one on the page) about marriage, including religiously sanctioned one night stands.

Now, before you all go "pooh pooh, isn't that randy old goat Elminster this guy's mary sue (or is that gary stu?) and therefore he's incapable of making a comment, because he's just this horny old guy?" You also need to remember that Ed Greenwood is the guy who made the Realms in the first place!

TSR, WotC, and now Hasbro have had rather strict "Family Friendly" policies (the latter being the strictest), which means that aspect of the Realms has been scrupulously kept out of print - though sometimes this gets by-passed by particularly clever writers. So you'll probably never see an openly gay, bi, lesbian, or polyamorus person in print, even though there should be. (There are four exceptions I can think of off the top of my head, 1) The description of Elversult in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (pg143), for an example of "clever" (blatant IMHO!) wording... Yanseldara and her consort Vaerana Hawklin, both women. At the time the FRCS first came out, Sean K Reynolds on the Realms-L list would not comment beyond "read it however you want"; 2) The implied polygamous relationship at the end of the Return of the Archwizards series... I don't know how they missed that one; 3) The portrayal of Imoen in (godawful) Philip Athans and (not-so-godawful-but-still-fairly-painful) Drew Karpyshyn's Baldur's Gate trio of books; 4) the implied polygamous relationship at the end of Hordes of the Underdark if the male PC has romanced both Nathyrra and Aribeth.)

The fact of the matter is, Abeir-Toril is nothing like Earth. For a start, they don't have certian real life religions that have dominated Earth society for thousands of years... Instead they have such deities as Sune, who is the goddess of passion, beauty and love... Lliira, the godess of joy, festivals, and dancing. The original party deity! Sharess, who is the goddess of sensual pleasures, festhalls (a nice way of saying brothels), and patroness of courtesans (a nice way of saying prostitutes)... In fact, Sharess's main temple is in Calimport - make of that what you will!

What's that suppose to imply? That the company has that policy and we should abide by it? That the company says one thing and does another or what?

The fact remains that the only way they are siblings is in their minds and they didn't even know until late in BgII
and to try and put this comment on topic I think that being close friends before discovering that they are bhaals offspring they would have developed feelings of lovewhy would Imoen leave the only home she has ever known if not because she cares deeply for the PC?

and before anyone can say WHAT DO YO KNOW ABOUT BI OR HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS!?! I will say I know almost nothing, I'm not bi or homosexual, but I do believe that a hetrosexual person is able to develop deep feelings for a member of the same sex

asynca@yahoo.com

okay... Let me just say I skipped straight from page 7 to reply to this so apologies (though not too sincere) if I repeat a previous point.

My brother adores me. However, he is definately not likely to bind his life to mine and travel all over the world possibly getting killed numerous times in the name of our kinship.

For me, doing that signifies something deeper. I have always felt there was a deeper relationship between Imoen and the PC that hasn't been explored. That Imoen will stick with the PC no matter what (even happy to rejoin after I tested her resolve by slaughtering as many slave-children and random commoners as possible), regardless of the awful things you do/obsession with rewards/ignoring her and focusing most of your attention <loveinterest> says something to me.

It is not totally beyond the realms of possibility that she could fall in love (or is in love, whether she's aware of it or not) with the PC, regardless of whether the PC is male or female.

They are definitely soulmates, and it is easy to extend from there into something physical.

So, I think Imoen is... CHARNAME-sexual. I don't think it's possible for her to be interested in any other NPC, she's dedicated her life to CHARNAME.

I've only read a little of this topic.

I see Imoen as a bisexual. Kind of. Really, I don't think the gender matters so much as the emotional attachment. Any relationship with her should be less on the sexual side, and more on the positive emotion side. Ala, Loveydovey.

I see her as the type who would respond to a loving, caring individual who gives of themselves.

If that individual is the PC, then the original feelings of friendship and closeness, combined with a loving, caring PC, could make her able to cope with and deal with any feelings of guilt or shame she might have over such a relationship - HOWEVER, such a relationship should be somewhat hard to start. Once it's started, well...Imoen, for her flightyness, isn't one to back down from her path. She's pretty bullheaded and stubborn.

Imoen is flighty? I'll disagree there. She's pretty goddamn loyal and doesn't really have emotional freakouts or mood swings or take off on some strange 'need my space' journey as you'd expect from someone who's flighty.

But I agree with you. Apart from her initial interest in sex (when she was younger, sneaking to read the tantric sex tome as told to Anomen) most of her dialogues that have anything to do with sex start with "EEEEWWWWWW!" (although, she must have a rather ...inquisitive brain to imagine some of the situations that she says ewww to....)

I also don't think Imoen would jump into bed with you in the timespan of the game... for anything other than a comforting hug-snuggle (nightmares, you understand ;) ) but I do think she would thrive from some mushy TLC.

*contemplates* Hrm...perhaps flighty was the incorrect word to use. Imoen is...carefree, fun loving, somewhat random, and most definitely cheerful. Or at least, she was in BG1. And, I believe that she steadily recovers over the course of the game (She seems better in TOB), and so, once all is said and done and the adventure is over, I see her returning to her ways once again - a little wiser, a little more worldy, but...well....Heya, it's just me, Imoen!

She does not strike me as the type of woman who lets one or two gigantic things crush her underneath piles of angst. She's a fighter, she's got that efervesant warrior spirit that lets her keep going.

Perhaps flighty was wrong. But she SEEMS flighty, random, so on so forth. In reality, as I said above, I see her as the type who is what they is and that's all that they is. She's the eternal child, and I believe she is a good example of "Enlightened Innocence."

You know, looking back at what I just wrote, it really has jack diddly squat to do with the topic. Heh. Time to click Rep-

IMHO people only get pedantic about grammar and spelling when they don't have valid points to be making :P

btw Quitch did we reach a verdict here on Pinkie's sexuality? Or are you just having fun watching us squabble? :D
