Hi just thought I should mention that I've tried to install both Moinesse-Avatars and 1_pp together, on several occasions, and the inevitable result, each time, was that there were two figures in Imoen's inventory screen, both alike, using Moinesse' long-haired animation, but with one being further down from the other. Onscreen/on-map, though, the Imoen figure was fine.

If you think about it, you might see why that makes sense. Moinesse's Avatars adds details as another "layer" over the in-game animation, but 1PP alters the animation, so the outlines no longer match up.

Is it animation when there's no movement?

The avatars and paperdolls are related, right? Same animation type? Paperdolls don't move. :P

I've tried a few different installs, with different options each time, of 1PP, to see if I could get it to work with Moinesse Avatars (which I like so much, I'm unwilling to give it up). The result is disaster every time. Due to my complicated collection of mods installed, there may be other mods involved in the difficulties I encounter when trying to play the game after installing everything. Today I reinstalled everything, because fixing a recent problem with the Chloe mod resulted in getting a dreaded CTD on rest (which I thought I'd previously banished). Also, Chloe's class was changed to straight Fighter (what happened to her specialized Kensai kit?), and Yasraena's name was replaced by a line of text. I knew how to fix that, though, but just talking to her and telling her that she looked strange, then she fixed herself.

I suspect that using the Subrace mod further complicates matters related to the avatars and paperdolls. The order of installing the mods doesn't matter as much as the content that's being installed. That's my conclusion when considering 1PP, Moinesse, and Subrace. The only fix I have for this that doesn't create other issues is to uninstall 1PP (all but potions), which I really hate to do, because the graphics that 1PP adds are beautiful. However, compromise is required in this case, and due to the requirements I've set for myself, 1PP has to be the sacrificial lamb :(

This with the remix for Mac OS X. I hope a future revision of this mod will solve the problem.

Happy gaming,
Eric

I've used both together without problems. In Tutu anyway. There are some files in Moinesse's avatars that make me wonder though... mainly related to the female thief paperdoll (CHFT2INVtest.plt for example seems to suggest something unfinished). 1PP modifies the same paperdolls, so it should be a matter of whichever's installed last wins (I've installed Moinesse after 1PP).

Eric's problem sounds like dialogue corruption, which would not be related to these mods, since they don't modify dialog.tlk (at least, I'm pretty sure they don't).

Whatever the conflict that results from my most intuitive and careful install of mods, I see the same two game-breaking problems unless I reinstall a few mods after running test games. Chloe and Yasraena's unique weapons keep getting tampered with, and occasionally dialog text will appear where a character's name is supposed to be (only for NPC mods, though), or where the class is normally shown (which Subrace mod replaces with the character's subrace). I've been unsuccessful in finding an install strategy that avoids or corrects this, and I can't find any way to get 1PP to function without messing up Chloe and Yasraena.

So, I've gone back to the install where the WeiDU log shows a bunch of "?????" entries. Looks odd, but the game performs as it should, so far. My current test game is still just before entering Chapter 2, so I'll see how things go. I had to reinstall Kivan, as he didn't show up in Waukeen's Promenade, like he normally does. Haven't seen the event that allows me to gather herbs (Herbs & Potions mod) near Adventurer's Mart, so I'll check if the merchant is where she's supposed to be, and reinstall that mod if she's not.

I'd dearly like to know what I should change regarding the mod installs. I'll post the WeiDU log soon.

Happy gaming,
Eric

Chances are, if you install two mods that change the same thing, conflict shall arise. </3

Okay, seriously though...

I have a MoinesseAvatars-v2 copy on here (it has a G3 icon... I don't know), and... if I'm seeing this properly, the files don't seem to follow any pattern. There are two ways to display paperdolls in Baldur's Gate II:

1. With PLT

This is the built-in file format of the Baldur's Gate II paperdolls.

2. With BAMs

If method 1 fails, the game will look for (and display) available BAM files. This is used for compatibility with Baldur's Gate I paperdolls (e.g. the ogre, etc.).

For 1pp I have exclusively used BAM files, because... well, it IS built on the Baldur's Gate I style and artwork, and as far as I know, there is no tool to properly edit PLT files (beyond getting *something* to display). Besides, I like BAM files. :) So anyway... 1pp includes PLT files for all the paperdolls that are broken on purpose to stop your game from loading them - the alternative would be to remove the PLT files from the game archives, and we don't want to do that. It then includes the 1pp BAM files to be displayed instead.

Now, with the Moinesse files... they don't really seem to do either. I found some broken PLT files (which were actually renamed BAMs), where the BAM would be displayed, and some semi-working PLT files that would be used. The human female thief, for instance, uses a BAM, and the vampire a PLT.

Combine the two, and it spells disaster.

If you install 1pp last, you shouldn't be able to see the Moinesse paperdolls, but you will see the avatar animations. Except for that, your game should work fine. (Though this is just a guess - I haven't actually tried.)

If you install 1pp first, the Moinesse paperdolls will be used. This is not good for one reason: it works as long as the avatar in question uses a BAM paperdoll, but when you get one of the PLT ones, you will get a messy result. BAM and PLT don't mix well on a paperdoll, and the 1pp shields, helmets, etc. are BAM files. I don't really remember what it does, but I think the bottom half of the BAMs were cut off in that combination, and other oddities ocurred.

It doesn't explain the double Imoen, so I don't know about that... maybe a glitched PLT file in the Moinesse paperdolls?

Eric P's experiences sound like they are neither caused by the Moinesse files nor 1pp or any combination thereof. The mismatched dialogue lines and random weird issues sound like the classic broken install - either because WeiDU messed up, or something was overwritten from a different install. Anyway, two mods that don't in any way alter dialogues should not be able to mess them up. So it's definitely something else that is fishy there, too.

In conclusion:

If you would like to see the Moinesse animations in-game, but the 1pp paperdolls, install the Moinesse files first. If you know what you're doing, you can also copy all files except for the 'INV' ones (after or before installing 1pp).

If you would like to see the Moinesse paperdolls, don't install 1pp.

If you want to have both, you'll have to make a new mod out of the two - either converting all the Moinesse PLT files to BAM, or converting all the 1pp files, as well as the Moinesse BAM files to PLT. I don't think there's another way to make every combination of the two possible.

Thanks for the info, Erephine. With this, someone should be able to rebuild the Moinesse package so it uses only BAMs and perhaps add some 1PP detection logic as well.

As you say though, it doesn't explain the problems reported here (I think Strontium Dog and Eric P. need to post their WeiDU logs).

Edit: Looks like there are other issues, at least with Mac installs. Does the so-called "remix," whatever that is, solve these problems?

I remember reading about this BMP-to-PLT converter too, but it seems the links are dead now.

I don't have a Mac... I can't test with it.

1pp doesn't have any known issues on Windows installs that I'm aware of. I don't know if a simple BAM -> PLT conversion would work, since they seem to be using different colour mapping schemes (from what I could see).

Playing on a G4 PPC Mac, running OS X 10.4.10, with the latest ToB patch (2.1.2), I'm willing to do more kinds of mod testing, as that's pretty much what I'm already doing, to determine how to make the mods I want to use work together properly.

Here's the WeiDU log...though today I had to reinstall the Herbs & Potions, RE, and BTL mods, as they weren't coming up in play after this install...

Yes, but a useful test on a Mac system would be vanilla BGII with just 1pp added.

Unfortunately I don't even know what the remix is, if it works, or anything, as I didn't have anything to do with WeiDUing the files or the port.

Ohhh well.

I think (and I hope) that I still have an install of the game with the only mod added being the Fixpack (from G3). Would that be OK for testing 1PP, or should it be an install without that?

My game is now working better than ever with the 1PP potions component also uninstalled (it got uninstalled during a reinstallation of another mod, though I didn't want it to do that).

That should be ok - or at any rate, it'll be easier to troubleshoot than your current setup (I haven't even heard of half the mods you have installed). Make sure you don't have any non-WeiDU mods installed apart from the official patch - your WeiDU log won't show that (but you should know if you've installed any mods of that nature).

A good test will be to install just 1PP and test the paperdolls/animations, uninstall 1PP and install just Moinesse and test, then install both in different orders and test. I'm going to do this for Windows but I don't have a Mac.

Why?

I'm sorry if I'm being a bitch, but either you want to have the 1pp paperdolls or the Moinesse paperdolls. It's not going to be entirely 'compatible' for the simple reason that you can't have both at the same time.

If you would like to create some sort of amalgamation of the mods, that's fine, but it's your thing and you'll have to troubleshoot it. It's not a problem of 1pp. It's kind of like expecting two different romances for the same character to be 'compatible'. They inherently won't be. If you want some parts of both of them... you can ask for permission and build a new mod from them.

Ideally, with mods like 1pp, it should be simple enough: the mod that is installed last will be the one that takes precedence. I pointed out why it doesn't work in my first post. Unless there are bugs in 1pp or the Moinesse files, I can't think of anything else that would cause problems. And that's what you should be testing for.

Why?

To fully report on compatibility for both mods in both OSes (as per the list in my signature).

I can see someone perhaps wanting the 1PP paperdolls and the Moinesse avatars. I'm not speaking personally - it's been a while since I've installed such mods to actually *play* them but I do test them both alone and with other mods, mainly as a favour to mod authors and players at this point. Some appreciate my help, and I guess some don't... whatever, I'll still do it (I don't know why... I guess I'm a glutton for punishment since I have mods of my own to work on...).

Granted (I already acknowledged that).

If you would like to see the Moinesse animations in-game, but the 1pp paperdolls, install the Moinesse files first. If you know what you're doing, you can also copy all files except for the 'INV' ones (after or before installing 1pp).

If you install 1pp last, you shouldn't be able to see the Moinesse paperdolls, but you will see the avatar animations. Except for that, your game should work fine. (Though this is just a guess - I haven't actually tried.)

So why not have someone actually confirm that? Especially since...

I don't have a Mac... I can't test with it.

Well, I might as well wipe out everything and try this, as my latest test game with the current set of installed mods just gave me a new and strange CTD when I tried to rest the party outside Mirella's cabin. The screen didn't fade to black and go to the Imoen dream where she asks if I remember this and that person from out past, but the audio and text do begin. After she asks "Don't they?" I get the CTD. So much for the install I thought would finally work properly (everything was going fine up to that point; Umar Hills is the first quest in Chapter 2 that I started to follow, and this was the first time in the game when I tried to rest the party). This crash happens exactly the same way every time I try, so I'm giving up again.

At this point, I have 0 confidence that I'll ever get the game to work unless I cut out one or more mods...but which one(s) to cut?

Still trying,
Eric

Well like I said, with as many mods as you've got, it's hard to troubleshoot issues like that. I'm pretty sure what you're describing isn't caused by either 1PP or the Moinesse mod though. Testing them without all those other mods will answer that definitively though.

Then I would suggest knocking off the newer (possibly undertested) mods - just go with the ones that've been around a while. If that's stable, you can start adding the beta-ish mods, particularly if you've got a reproduceable situation you can test for glitches after installing each mod. Might be an onerous process but if you want all those mods, it might be your best bet.

One lead you've got is that this appears to be dialogue related, and you've got a particular string or two associated with it. So you can search your mod folders for that string (will likely be in .tra or .d files) and any strings nearby, or at least look for mods that mess with the actor (e.g. Imoen).
