Another game breaking crash in North Forest. That is a big area for NPC quests like BTL, Xan and Tsujatha mods.
I could CLUA there fine but traveling always crashed.
Worldmap= no conflict
bad creature in area or BCS= nope on both
corrupted area= bingo bango bongo
My guess is the Tactics part of Mike Barnes Improved North Forest. I am curious to ask if the tactics mod copies the area instead of patch? The AR1800 is in the tactics2\copy folder. Is there another TP2 edit that corrects this if it is indeed the case? I used the one in BWP fixes and I thought Azazello's removed the Big Picture checks.
I rebuilt the area from a backup and replaced the appropriate creatures from tactics and reinserted the container contents and the required key that is added from other mod content. No changes to BCS needed and I am not sure what really caused the problem. It works splendidly now.

What do you mean with "Worldmap= no conflict"?
My guess is, that BG2-Fixpack adds an entrance (to area + worldmap), tactics overwrites the area file (no entrance) and the engine crashes because it can not find the entrance specified in the worldmap.

OK, so there is a conflict with worldmap, the bigger problem is the tactics part overwriting. Anyway I fixed it in my game with no loss of content or having to CLUA.
Maybe replacing the AR1800.ARE file in Tactics with the file currently in game before installing tactics would work as well.

It's still a conflict with the ARE. You would need to place the AR1800.ARE file from the Tactics2/nforest/copy folder in your override directory prior to installing BG2Fixpack (which yes, does install entrances into AR1700, AR1800, AR2500 & AR2600). Either that or scroll through the .ARE files (the in-game BG2Fixpack patched one & the tactics2/nforest/copy version) and jot down the changes between the 2 area files, and then modify the Tactic .tp2 file to patch in the changes, rather than overwriting the file.OK, so there is a conflict with worldmap, the bigger problem is the tactics part overwriting. Anyway I fixed it in my game with no loss of content or having to CLUA.

Cool, thanks erebusant for the preinstall advice. Thankfully I was able to fix ingame and I have been surprising myself more and more as I fix things like that. Before, I would just give up and uninstall.
