Make sure you have Logging On=1 and Debug Mode=1 set under [Program Options] in your baldur.ini file and see if you get anything back in baldur.err or baldur.log after the crash.

I have these program options correct in baldur.ini. What do you mean by getting anything back from baldur.err or baldur.log?

I mean reproduce the crash, then open those files with a text editor (Notepad or whatever) and paste their contents here. If you already had those settings in baldur.ini, the error messages may already be captured in those files.

Not just corrupt, but possibly a bogus CRE reference. The problem is, it doesn't tell us which creature, so you may have to go through them individually :(.

Does it crash inside or outside the inn? You probably want to use DLTCEP or NearInfinity and try to extract either ar6800 (Inn exterior) or ar6801 (Inn ground floor) from your saved game and look at the CREs or Actors section. Kind of hard to explain, but basically all the CREs listed there should exist and be > 0 in size.

The problem is, when it crashes, the game hasn't loaded AR6800 yet (it crashes while loading). So it's not possible to extract any of these AR6800 CREs/actors, since they are not listed there yet. And to see the right structure size, I have to decompress the AR from a saved game but I don't have it.
The problematic CRE must be of AR6800 and there are not many possibilities: Commoner, Cow, Female Townsfolk, Guard, Hobgoblin, Male Townsfolk, Tarnesh. I found another problem from this forum where a bandit had something abnormal equipped. I checked these CREs for equipment and everything seemed normal.
So what should I do then?

I suspect it might be hobgob.cre. There is a known issue with the CRE's ordering that Resource Fixer addresses, but you've already got that installed. On my (old) BWP install, this CRE has a rndequ06.itm in its Quick Item 1 slot. Well depending on how the dice are rolled in rndequip.2da, this can end up being a shield or a bow or even platemail, all of which would be invalid in that slot, though I dunno if it'd cause a crash. But we know that sort of thing does cause crashes sometimes, as you say.

Anyway, if your game has the same thing, you can try editing hobgob.cre in DLTCEP or NI and moving the rndequ06 from quick item 1 to an open inventory slot. Then save it and reload and see if it helps. Make sure you use a game from *before* you entered ar6800 for the first time, otherwise the old area data will still be in your saved game.

By the way, if you open the area file with NI, you can see the exact creature names when you click on them... like the Hobgoblin might be hobgob.cre .

The corrupt file was hobjoia.cre, the hobgoblin that is supposed to drop Joia's ring. I'll just remove the actor, since I don't know how to fix it.

In my game, that CRE has the same issue as hobgob.cre, so maybe it's something else, I don't know. But if you figured out how to remove it, you should be able to figure out how to fix it. Can you export it and attach it here at least? In DLTCEP, just edit the creature and do a Save Creature As to a different folder, then upload it here. In NI it's the same only Export it instead.

Also, it will help to see which mod may have buggered the CRE if you do a 'weidu --change-log hobjoia.cre' from the command prompt. Check #5 on this page if it's not that straightforward in Vista (probably isn't).

I think I have no idea what could be causing this bug. The only thing I remember from this forum was some abnormal item equipped in a slot where it shouldn't be. But that's not the case here.
I attached it but I will still be studying this cre file for errors when I have more time.

The cause of the problem is the assigned numbers of the items the creature has. As they range from 1279 to -256, and it only has 5 items. I could be wrong of course...

To correct this, you just have to imput -1 to each slot...

Well, that doesn't really fix it properly, because then you're left with a broken quest unless you console the item in.

You're better off restoring the hobgoblin to what it should be. Try putting this in the override. You should be able to restore the original area too (assuming you have a backup of it and a game where you haven't entered it yet).

That was one messed-up CRE that even the Resource Fixer couldn't've fixed. It might be worth it to do a 'weidu --change-log hobjoia.cre' from the command prompt in your game folder to see which mod could possibly have botched this. See #5 here if you don't know how to do that (it's easy once you do).

Hmm, not sure how it got buggered then, unless you had a corrupted BG1 game to begin with or something. I have those same mods on my BWP and the CRE is fine, apart from having non-quick item stuff in quick items like I mentioned. Well, hopefully it works with the fixed CRE anyhow.

"Infinity turns out to be the opposite of what people say it is. It is not 'that which has nothing beyond itself' that is infinite, but 'that which always has something beyond itself'." -Aristotle

Well, it seems that my installation is evil or something. After I returned the old AR6800 and hobjoia.cre, it started to CTD on each and every area except Candlekeep areas. The cause was again CreatureSize.
I now tried to remove xpmod-reduce 50%. But it's strange that every time I try to uninstall/reinstall something by running the respective setup file, the installation progress will continue after the uninstall/reinstall. So after the component I want to ajust is uninstalled/reinstalled, it starts installing other BWP mods that have been installed already, starting from BGTMusic. Is this a common problem and how can it be fixed?

Heya,

The uninstall/reinstalling of mods is just how WeiDU works :D When you install some mods, the installed order is saved in the form of the WeiDU.log.

Now, suppose you installed mod A, B, C, D, E (in that order. E being last) and you wanna remove (or reinstall) mod B. When you hit the uninstall option in Setup-B.exe :P the installer, first uninstalls all mods from the end of your WeiDU.log upto mod B (in this case, it uninstalls E, then D, and then C and finally B), THEN it reinstalls all mods (after B) in the same order they were installed first. So, your final order would still be A, C, D, E ^_^ (intelligent li'l thing innit?? :D)

BUT, looking at the WeiDU.log in the first post, the Generalized Biffing mod (the last one) prevents uninstall/reinstalling of ALL mods before it :o (as they're archived into .bifs rather than as separate files) So, your install may well be f-ed up now :(

Well, the explanation is simple, if you wish to remove one of the mods in the list, you first have to remove all the previous mods installed after it, and then once you have done that, you can either skip or reinstall different component, and then the later mods will be reinstalled. That's how the WeiDU.exe does it, and needs to do it as otherwise all the file touched would be corrupted. and the game wouldn't work at all.

Thanks for the explanations.

So, your install may well be f-ed up now :(

Yes, I've understood that a little while now  :D
