Nice screenshot, Imoen is so photogenic :P
Never thought about messing with the graphics settings, but I've never had a problem with BG1 or BG2. Will have to try that. The really strange part of it was that I had already crossed through 4300 to get to the Gnoll stronghold. Worked fine then. When coming back was when it CTD'd. Every time reloaded was the same thing. Until tried deleting the overlay's(then tried to isolate which overlay was the problem.) Copying wtstr.tis to the override folder didn't do anything for it, but I had also biffed the contents of the override folder. Yesterday, deleted the whole mess and reinstalled + mods, but didn't biff the override. Came across the same problem in a different area. This time copying the overlays into the override folder made everything work just fine. Maybe messing with the graphics settings will fix it, but it seems like Infinity Engine is failing to load the overlay or forcing it back out of memory and forgetting it did it. I'm gonna try biffing the area that gave me the most recent problem and including wtlake.tis and wtriver.tis to see if it will still work like it is supposed to.
This also happened in one other area ar???? just south of Beregost. Every time tried to take character through-CTD. Don't remember why, but made a new character and managed to walk right through no problem.

If you biff a TIS file, you have to remove the headers first. Did you do that? Otherwise, the game will use a corrupted TIS file. That doesn't sound like it should be part of the problem though because you didn't mess with the TIS file until after you had already determined that was causing problems.

I will give the area a try also. Unfortunately, this is one of those quirks that DLTCEP can't find and fix.

Okay, I think I found the problem. It is the WED file, not the ARE file. When I updated the area for NTotSC, DLTCEP extracted the WED file after I saved the changes. I placed both into the NTotSC folder. When you load the area now in DLTCEP, you can see that the water overlays are shit. Totally corrupt. If you delete the AR4300.WED file from the override and reload DLTCEP, the water overlays are perfect. So the problem is either that DLTCEP somehow corrupted the overlay when it extracted the file the first time, or the file became corrupt during compressing of the full RAR or during uncompression of the RAR. No matter what, you don't need this file. The original one in BGT-Weidu works fine for this area. Not only that, but removing this WED from the override also fixed area DSC001!!!

I have seen this corruption before in IETME but never in DLTCEP. So I am not sure why it happened. However, to resolve it in the future, I have already pulled the bad version out of NTotSC. So the next large update will not have this problem (not with this area at least).

How come DSotSC and NTotSC provide WEDs for BGT existant areas? Are there actually changes to tiles and overlays? Or is it just redundant?

Nevertheless, problem solved.

If you change any wall or doors, the updates go in the Wed. DLTCEP and IETME both update the WED automatically, even if nothing changes. Since I sort the override directory by date, I know which files I have modified and therefore need to go into the mod's directories. In a case like this, I could have skipped the file. The problem is not always knowing. Also, since no overlays got touched by me, I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem with the WED anyway.

That's all the problems are? :wall:
Did everything I could think of to figure out where the problem was before posting to the forum, and still came out wrong.

No, you did the right thing by pointing out a problem. There are several immediate assumptions about an area crash and you went through the process to find them. What was really found was something totally unexpected.

The only reason why I found it to be the Wed is because when my PC walked across the map, the water was all screwed up in spots. That clued me in that it was the WED (this has happened to me before). If I hadn't spent the time to cover the whole map, I probably wouldn't have found the problem. Just using ExploreArea() may not have been enough for me to see the actual problem. I assume you didn't see the water tiles having problems (full blocks of water instead of thin streams near the bottom of the map) or else you would have mentioned this earlier. As I have said before, bug finding takes many eyes and the more the better.

That's no problem. CTDs are always a bugger to diagnose and fix because there could be so many different causes. It's so much better if you could just still play and see the glitch. That would make it so much easier, but compensation code is tricky.
