I was just curious what carries over with you from your BG1 game in BG2 when playing BGT, besides your main character. Will imoen, minsc, jaheira, vinconia retain anything (xp,profs etc.) if I had them in my party in BG1? Will I be able to keep any of my items? I've tried searching for a readme document of any posts that explain what changes BGT makes but most of the results i find are on the old(and dead) teambg forums...thanks!

NPC's yes stats as they were last in your party. Stuff?? Maybe. depends on the NPC and how you get them in BG2.

Ok cool, thanks. So far I'd only played TuTu which didnt let you move anything but your main char, heck I even had to do that manually with shadowkeeper cause the damn thing would crash as soon as I defeated sarevok and not produce the "BG2 compatible save" like it was supposed to.

One more thing tho, what do you mean about stuff depending on how i get them in BG2?

Another question - My tranistion doesn't work. BG1 worked just fine all the way through, but now, right after the transition to BG2, I do have all of my stuff, but I just sit there forever in my jail cell. Irenicus never shows up. Imoen never shows up. Do I need to to something special before the transition or something?

I've tried dropping everything, kicking out every party member, etc. Same prob.

Go back to an earlier save and try again.

Okay. I have now officially tried 8 different saves, some prior to solving TotSC and some after. Same problem on all of them. The only thing I can think of is that Minsc did get killed early in my BG1 game, and I noticed that he does not show up in his jail cell.

Since I really don’t care if I loose my party (I just want my char and my items), I figured “What the hell, I’ll just export my char and start a new BG2 game with him, use that pre-game ‘pause cheat’ to drop my items, and I’m good to go!”

Except, when I do that I loose my Bag of Holding, Gem Bag, Scroll Case, and Potion Container and all the items inside each! AAAAAAAHHH! I took a look at my char in NI, and it looks like those 4 items don’t even save when I export the char.

So, I’m right back to square one. Is there some kind of game flag I can set in NI or other workaround to either 1) get the transition working correctly, or 2) carry over my Bag of Holding (and other containers)? Either one will do.

Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem, maybe it's cus Imoen was killed (she wasn't killed, she just told me she'd run to Friendly Arms Inn, though i never found her there).

Well, I'm not sure about getting the transition to work correctly. I think it does for some people and it doesn't for others. I was never able to get the transition to work in a way I liked.

As for the Bag of Holding, Gem Bag, Scroll Case and Potion Container, these items are defined in-game as stores. The items act as the entry points to the stores. Such information is external to character information and is not contained in the Character file. All such items are automatically stripped from a character when the character is exported.

What I wound up doing, when trying to bring a character from BGT into SoA, was to dump the container items (which would be stripped out anyway), load up the character with the items I wanted (slots on the character plus 16 inventory slots), export the loaded up character, and start SoA by importing the character. Then use the pause-cheat in order to ditch your items.

Not as nice as a bag of holding, but certainly one heck of a leg up compared with starting with no equipment.

Good luck finding a solution that works for you,

Dennis

Yeah, that's exactly what I did in the interem. Sure would be nice to keep some items for my new party members though. If the containers are treated as stores, I'm probably screwed and your method is probably the best workaround.

You can't import a character with those special bags, but you could drop them in a chest somewhere before you export/import. Keep track of their ITM names so you can CreateItem() them back onto your player. However, if you are importing, then you are starting a new game. So this wouldn't work. It would only work if you go through the transition between games since this continues the original game.
