I've been using Steam workshop so far and I don't have any complaints. All of the mods are neatly categorized and automatically updated. However, one very big mod like Falskaar isn't available at the workshop. In addition, I've read many mod creator's comments at the Steam workshop berating it and extolling the virtues of the Nexus. Can somebody help me understand the reasons for this animosity? Is it a modder vs a player issue? As a player, I most certainly find the Steam Workshop very user-friendly.

I don't like spyware, so anything is better than than steam for me.

What exactly do you mean?

Ignore it. That's an old chestnut based on the fact that the Steam client is a DRM control and one with a very light touch at that.

I prefer Nexus simply because I find Steam Workshop not so well laid out.

I mean I don't like that one has to login every time one starts a game. They can log what you searching for, what you read or watch, which mods you like or download, etc. Shortly: legal spyware.

Yeah, ignore it like most people do. Don't even try to be a conscious consumer, it takes a lot of thinking.

This thread isn't about DRM, it's about finding mods with the Steam Workshop versus the Nexus. Thank you.

As for me, I prefer the Nexus. More oversight. However, I get mods from both places. :)

When you say oversight do you mean that modders there update their mods more often than in the workshop? If yes, why?

No. I mean that it's easier to find what I'm looking for, the mods there (at least the big ones) tend to have good documentation and F.A.Q's, there's plenty of screenshots, I tend to scan through the comment section to make sure there aren't any big problems, et cetera.

This is exactly what I do before installing any mod and I'm familiar with the Nexus, although the, relatively, recent changes to the way comments are laid is a little confusing.

I've skimmed through the Steam Workshop a few times but I feel like a dog trying to learn new tricks.  Also I'm not a fan of auto updating when it comes to mods.  I still manually download, install and patch Nexus mods.
