Hello all,

it has recently been brought to my attention that several of my mods have been waiting for 2+ years for somebody to perform trivial fixes (E.G. downloading and packaging the latest version from git, or changing a couple of lines to account for BG2EE).

As such, I'd like to state the following (and ask forum administrators to act accordingly):

  • In addition to any terms that are stated in the readme, all of my mods are also available under the GPL v3 license (you are free to choose between the readme terms and the GPL v3 terms).
As a consequence of that, anybody is free to modify any of my mods and upload their changes to their own server (either as a diff or as a stand-alone package).
  • Anybody who expresses such an interest and has already made reasonable contributions to the IE modding scene is to be granted the necessary privileges to update the 'official' package for any of my mods. Anybody doing so is free both to perform technical and content changes (the latter within reason).

By "Reasonable contributions to the IE modding scene" I mean:

  • Has published at least one "average" mod/tool/knowledge base (not an one-day NPC) AND at least one of:
  • Has published something (mod, tool, knowledge base, ...) that is pivotal to the current modding scene (ex. Fixpack, SCS, TobEx, WeiDU, BWS, BWP, BiG World FAQ).
  • OR Semi-regularly contributes outside of its own personal projects (either by posting informative threads/replies or by contributing code).
  • OR Has published several "average" mods.

By published I mean:

  • the work should be available for download and reasonably feature-full and bug-free
  • the person should be author or co-author (not a simple contributor)

When in doubt, assume permission is granted.

I leave the definition of "[content changes] within reason" intentionally vague. In particular, regarding Stivan the Hunter, most of the TOB banters are available (in RTF format and in Italian) on the github repository, and Giuseppe should be contacted regarding any additional TOB dialogue he has written but not sent me (or is not available on github).

Sincerely,
Valerio

Since I'm not meet the stated requirements, I ask someone to prepare new package 3.06 (just use updated files from this link: https://github.com/v...hive/master.zip)  witch fixes "random crashes when entering small building". Until it happens, every new player is affected by this bug. Community will be very grateful and the "BiG World Setup" project also.

That's actually very easy to do in BWS using that very file, as it should download the latest weidu archive, you could just copy the weidu.exe from it and rename it as setup-widescreen.exe with a .bat command(or whatever the .vbs uses), and extract the above archive files to the game directory without the "widescreen-master" master folder, so only the inner "widescreen" folder is in the game directory, with the setup- .exe .

And the version tags in the setup.tra's files are off, being still the v3.02. ... in all but the russian one, where it's v3.04 ... not that that maters a squ...something.

Yeah, the stated requirements are good to weed out you mortals out of the fold... not that the Imp could do a thing with the mods, as it doesn't even pretend to try to imagine to understand the content of them.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

I have no real problem with letting somebody well below the stated requirements releasing much-needed fixes that I wrote myself. The reason for their restrictiveness is that because I only feel comfortable offering carte blanche to somebody who already proved his knowledge and has a reputation to defend - in other words, to prevent the (very unlikely) scenario of somebody making my mods buggier/less compatible (either by blindly following instructions found on some random forum or because of a deliberate trolling attempt).

Bumping this. Anybody Weidu-savvy with free time to make Refinements EE compatible?

I've been thinking about working on Refinements, but I didn't know if it's one of the mods "up for adoption," and I don't know if I qualify under the terms of the OP. Plus I'm really only interested in the HLA component. And I have some substantive changes I'd make that might not be popular (like removing celestial summons from wizards).

Also I don't have a ton of free time. (And I just created a new Oblivion megamod install. Currently I'm spending more time tweaking Streamline than actually playing the game. )

Probably yes.

Yea. Others work fine with EE already.

Ummm....that is subjective indeed. Basically, if you decide to do the update for EE-compatibility (I don't think it's much work if you know what you're doing, I've already played through EE with Refinements) I think you should leave such tweaks out and leave them to the end-user to decide if he wants them tweaks or not.

No harm intended, but the mod are up for adoption, not to be ripped off of their content/tweaked their content and to be used as a base for Scales of balance. :3

The thing is, the man said this:

"anybody is free to modify any of my mods and upload their changes to their own server (either as a diff or as a stand-alone package)."

What I would consider doing, only because it would seem to comport with Valerio's instructions, is to take the HLA component, tweak it, make it EE-compatible, and upload it somewhere on its own, and fully documenting that the result would not be my work, but a tweaked version of Valerio's work.

On the other hand, I'm not a jerk and I'm not looking to rip off anyone's product. Notwithstanding the fact that I probably have the ability to do all that, *I have not actually done so.* Please keep that in mind before tossing accusations around. My own mod was built from the ground up and is feature-complete, it doesn't require ripping anything off from anyone. So don't worry.

Then do that. I'd still leave "wizards don't get celestial summons" out (for several reasons - SCS wizards use them, and I litteraly hate double standards; Sorcerers don't get them anyway if Refinements is installed).

If you do upload your work - it would be your work; albeit based on Refinements.

It's just *so stupid.* Why is a planetar going to appear and do the bidding of some schmuck wizard?? Where did that concept come from? I get summoning a demon, that's an old, established trope. But an angel? Never heard of it. The HLA summon for Wizards should be Gate.

For that matter what exactly a "dark planetar?" Did anyone at Bioware actually review any source material when they made that game? The whole TOB idea of HLAs was so, so poorly done... Refinements helps a lot but it still doesn't fix everything that needs to be fixed.

(Hmm, maybe there's an easier solution than changing the HLAs, maybe just switch out the planetar .cre for a different monster, then SCS mages will be affected the same way...)

Anyway this talk is academic, I really don't know if/when I would have a chance to get around to this...

Meh

It wasn't a personal attack and I apologize if it seemed so.

Are you sure that's the interpretation of valerio's word? What I meant is that I feel like Valerio wanted for his mods to also be used as a base for tweaking, but not only as that base.

So there should be the 'main' refinements version, and then those tweaks you are suggesting added on that version if you wish to add those.

Not that I don't agree with the planetar changes, though. ;)

No worries. To be honest I'm not sure either if that's the correct interpretation of his words, which is part of why I haven't touched the mod yet. Free time issues aside, I probably wouldn't deign to mess with Refinements unless one of the SHS elders stops by this thread and blesses the idea.

To clarify:

- the mod is released under the GPL V3, so anybody is free to make their own version of Refinements and upload it anywhere they please.

- the stated requirements are a guideline for getting the SHS administrators to give you upload privileges on SHS itself.

I'm reasonably sure that neither T.G.Maestro or Littiz were interested in adhering to D&D canon (shamefully, it's been almost 10 years since I last talked with either, so I can't recall with certainty), and most certainly Refinements isn't intended as an hardcore D&D mod (and that reply has been used in various instances, most likely also regarding the issue regarding Planetars and Solars); as such, I'd prefer if you were to use subcomponents to offer the choice between "original HLAs" and "D&D-appropriate HLAs", rather than removing them from the mod altogether.

A fallen planetar, I guess. All celestials (angels) can fall like paladins and rangers, so if you take a fallen angel like Lucifer the Light Bringer who became Satan the Prince of Darkness, I guess you're not too far from the concept of devils and demons.

Well, depending on the mythological point of view, you can be, and especially so in the Forgotten Realms, as there, the demon looks guite the different from devils and angles.
See, (most of ) the demons don't have wings, devils have bat wings(if it has them), and angles have feather wings. A fallen angle, has still the original birdlike feather wings, unless it cuts them off, or transmutates them... it might color them differently--- with the blood of his enemies  .
