Will you buy Skyrim?

Addendum: It's highly likely that Skyrim will win a GOTY award, and thus there will (again) be a GOTY Edition with some DLC bundled into it. If you're going for that one later on, just pick the "Bargain Bin" option and state it in your post. This is a public poll.

How could anyone possibly judge a game as award-worthy before it's even released? Corollary: why would anyone buy a game before they know how crappy it may or may not be? Marketing hype doesn't count a whit against actual player reviews. It's highly likely that Skyrim will win a GOTY award

You can't. I just said that it's probable that Skyrim will win a GOTY award. As for the why, one can't deny the probability when taking into account the facts that Morrowind won 1 (PC) GOTY award and 2 (PC) RPG GOTY awards, and that Oblivion followed with 3 overall GOTY awards, 4 (PC) GOTY awards, and at least 7 (PC) RPG GOTY awards. How could anyone possibly judge a game as award-worthy before it's even released? It's highly likely that Skyrim will win a GOTY award
Not to mention that there are numerous magazines, sites etc. etc. that hand out these awards, many voted and awarded by editors alone. I'd be shocked if one of the top 20 sources for these awards didn't give one to Skyrim. And that's based on numbers and the habits of gaming media alone. In summary, a GOTY Edition of Skyrim is highly likely. If people want to go for that edition later on, there's certainly a basis for them saying as much now.
Because people like their chances based on the information seen so far? And some of us want games when they are released, not later. I don't know what else to tell you. If anyone else wants to chime in on this, feel free to do so.Corollary: why would anyone buy a game before they know how crappy it may or may not be? Marketing hype doesn't count a whit against actual player reviews.

As for buying a game now rather than later... Well, I can't speak for everyone, but I know I typically spend 100+ hours on a single Elder Scrolls playthrough, so I'd much rather play Skyrim now, while on maternity leave than later when I'll have to deal with a bawlin', poopin', ravenous newborn.
I'm staying away from most of the spoilers, though, I want to attack it with as fresh a mindset as possible.

I agree. I couldn't bring myself to do, even, one run through of Oblivion without mods.Personally I think that Skyrim will be better then Oblivion right out of the box... which admittedly doesn't take that much.
I just hope the main quest of Skyrim is interesting. Although, I'm still not sure about the whole Dragon shouts "collect them all" dynamic.

Yeah, vanilla Oblivion wasn't all that well designed... or interesting.I agree. I couldn't bring myself to do, even, one run through of Oblivion without mods.

Collecting worked for bobbleheads in FO3/FO:NV. Or at least I liked collecting them. But then again, most of my characters are kleptomaniac packrats with hundreds of forks and other assorted tableware in their backpacks...
And when I'll become the esteemed master of the College of Winterhold, I'm going grant myself privileges to "secure" valuables from the vaults and "relocate" them all to my city manor for "safekeeping". What? You can't fire me, I've got tenure!
