I have the PC version of Skyrim, and although I've "only" sunk about 50-60 hours into it, I've encountered very few bugs. The only bugs I ran across were of the graphical kind (clipped water, or "disappearing" objects which were still interact-able). I didn't even get a single backwards dragon. And that was before I updated my game. That's the problem with this kind of game, it just has so many different moving parts, and it's so vast. The PC crowd, similarly, has so many different kinds of set ups, with different processors, varying motherboards, and distinct GPUs.
I hope you manage to get it up and running, because it's so worth it. Good luck!

Yeah, I played Skyrim on the PS3 and encountered very few problems. I did hit a crash after playing it for about 10 hours straight, which I hear has been fixed by the latest patches. (I was playing a rental.) The 10 hour problem is a sign of sloppy memory management -- bad resource disposal slowly erodes the console's memory capacity until it runs out of space and SPLAPP. (This is a temporary problem, of course, which is fixed simply by rebooting or quitting.)

The buggiest console game I've ever played was Resistance 3, which is sad because the game itself was well-designed and fun. I actually wrote it up on my blog. Here's the sad tale of R3: http://gamewriter.vi.../buggiest-game/
