The Child of A deity and a mortal is a QUASI-DEITY. (Hmmm, now where can we find one of those?) They don't need food or rest. They have divine rank 0 and live until killed. Demigods have between 1-5 divine ranks. Lessers have 6-9?, Intermediate is 10-15?, and Greater is anyhting from there up to rank 20. Deitys of more than 21 divine ranks have no intrest in the mortal worlds or most other dietys. They most powerful FR deity is Chauntea, with 19 divine ranks. For each divine reank you get a salient divine ability, which is pretty much a super-feat. Also, greater deitys also always get the best possible roll.

Clearly Ao is the most powerful FR deity as he is the Overgod. Ao's divine rank is over 20. Im sure The Leveler meant anyone but Ao or anyone that is worshiped.

Mystra, Shar, Silvanus and Tyr would be in second place with a divine rank of 18.

I think Bane or Cyric have a Divine rank similar to those others, too.

Highest DR doesn't automatically mean most powerful, though. :) But yeah, Ao is the most powerful.

Yep, they have a rank of 17.

Highest DR doesn't automatically mean most powerful, though.

I agree. It's only a one point difference anyways.

Do deities with an influence in multiple crystal spheres have different divine ranks for each of those spheres? There are supposedly worlds which are completely over run by Drow, and I'm pretty sure Lloth would be 18 or 19 in such places...

I didn't realise Shar had such a high rank, does anyone know what rank Kelemvor, Corellan and Torm are?

Don't forget Shar is something like the second oldest deity in all of Aber-Toril, being older than the world itself, etc.

Kelemvor: I'd say 16 or 17.

Correllon: 18 or 19?

Torm: 8 or 9?

To contrive, or not to contrive? That is the question.

I'm really very much against the talk of specific powers of certain gods. In my line of thinking, gods are only as powerful as they are worshipped. I think that the more a god is worshipped then the more powers it should be capable of handing out.

This is ofcourse not the way in which Forgotten realms has chosen to run its pantheons and ethoses.

***sigh....***
I really do get so tired of the "which god is more powerful debate". It ranks right up there with conversations like "It isn't more powerful than the Terrask", or "Is it elven chain, and if so can I use my spells with this armor".

Why can't we all simply agree that gods are unreachable? Why not simply let them stay in the imagination rather than create skills, feats, spells, abilities, and other such nonsense associated with such omnipotent beings?

The best story is not a detailed schematic of how a hero or heroine "killed a god"(laughable at best) but a story of the underdog overcoming insurmountable odds, saving the day, and finding true love in the process.

Uh, that's exactly how gods in FR work, ever since the Time of Troubles.

Anyway, what happens if a DM/author wishes to create a campaign/story where one god battles another god? It even occassionally happens in the official D&Dverse, but with no stats we couldn't possibly know who's likely to win. Defeating an avatar of a god is certainly possible for a very high level party, though there should always be repurcussions (e.g. the god sends along three more avatars at the same time)

The whole point of the D&D gods is they aren't omnipotent beings. They all have their flaws, weaknesses, likes and dislikes, odd personality characteristics, etc. Basically they think and act like ultra-poweful mortals, mostly because a lot of them once were mortals.

If you wish to have truly omnipotent beings, who're without weakness, personality disorders or stats, that's what Ao and others of his kind are for.

The gods that are worshiped by gods sort of idea, Ao wasn't even known about by mortals until the time of troubles, at least thats what I've heard, so he MUST have been worshiped (after a fashion) by the other gods, it would explain why he's so incredibly powerful without mortal followers, and why he has no interest in mortal affairs, trying to keep the the balance must be a hands on job

say yes, say no its only a theory and I don't bother thinking about trying to compare myself to other gods to much, they're all beneath me anyway :D

Also Demi doesn't mean half. A more accurate description would be to say part though in ad&d the actual meaning doesn't matter so it is pointless to argue over an interpretion of a word

Before the Time of Troubles, a god's power didn't depend on the god's worshipers. At the Time of Troubles, Ao decreed that a god's power and very survival would depend on the god's worshipers from then on, for all of his under-gods. One of the things that sets Ao apart is that he still has no reason to care about being worshiped.

lol, I forgot that minor detail

Torm: 8 or 9?

I know that Torm is subservient to Tyr but why is he that low and why is Kelemvor that high, does their rating depend on how large their portfolio is (such as Shar who encompasses all darkness...etc)

Torm is in fact a demi-god, according to "On Hallowed grounds" and Tyr is a greater god

An ounce of realism bakes a tasty plot and storyline
All right, let's say you wanted to encorporate a "gods clashing" sort of theme into your campaign. Why can't you simulate wrath of god disasters and simply allude that the heavens are at odds with one another? Tornados, earth(Faerun)quakes, Tsunamis, etc.

As for defeating a God's avatar, once again I don't see the point. Sure a high level party could accomplish such a thing but seriously, most players should retire their characters at about level 13. At level 12 they are quite capable of defeating kingdoms. That is, in itself, nothing short of historic.

Yuo say u want realism but then talk about single handedly taking over a kingdom, and that stuff about the underdog overcoming the tyranical master saving the day and falling in love, HA, u talk of realism then change to fairy tales.
I personally like the idea of an entire god mod it would be cool.
