Totally off base question... but let's still answer it.
The game actually can be played with widescreen in the normal resolution... but if you wish to play with widescreen resolution, you can download the Widescreen mod, and install it into your BG1 directory. And then there is the BGT and BG1Tutu and EasyTutu where you can play the BG1 in the BG2 engine, and, and, and etc.

Edit: anyways, if you still insist on BG1's and widescreen mod, you can install the BG1 GUI too.
