Hola! :D Time has come for the Oblivion mods thread to make its appearence! Without further delay, here is my starter:

http://www.tescreens...p/Category:Mods

Supposedly has all the mods out right now. Enjoy! :)

*Tom's edit* The construction set can be found here. Added to the top post for visibility.

Also, here's my own lil' mod which halves the weight of glass weapons since they're way too heavy, also affects all the other weapons that use glass weapon animations. [attachment=3351:attachment]

Edit: Here are a couple of .ini tweaks -

ACTIVATE SCREENSHOTS

Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button
There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0

change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1

Also, two related items for the screenshots:
iScreenShotIndex=0
SScreenShotBaseName=Oblivion

There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini

Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.

After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.

CAMERA FURTHER BACK DURING CONVERSATIONS

In “My Documents / My Games / Oblivion” you’ll find the “oblivion.ini” file. Do a search for “fDlgFocus=2.1000”. Raise this value to pull the camera back during conversations. Recommended values: 4 & 5.

Various performance enhancing tweaks can be found here.

Also, I updated my nVidia drivers to the latest beta, which improved the performance slightly.

Mods I'd reccomend:
>BTmod - Tweaks the interface a bit, so more things can fit on the page. Here's a pic of what I mean.
>Natural Wildlife - Alters the various wild animals so they won't all attack you on sight, or at least not unless you get too close.
>Better Water - Makes water more opaque, more reflective, and reduces the fog under the water (which is great - you can actually see more than 2 feet in front of you when you swim now). Looks much better in my opinion.

Finally, I pinned this topic for now. Maybe later when it becomes evident which websites have a list of the better mods I'll change it.

These two sites seem to have the most selection at the moment:

Speaking of graphic card drivers, I strongly recommend any ATI users to upgrade to the latest Catalyst drivers. I was experiencing random crashes, but after upgrading from 5.13 to 6.3, they seem to have stopped.

Some recommended mods I use right now: OLD

PA Eye Colors & PA Eye Colors 2
They add a lot of new eye colors for each race, very nicely done too.

NoLoad
This mod removes the "Loading area..." flash that occurs while outside completely, very nice, adds to the immersion quite a bit in my opinion.

Magic Effect Dimmer
As it was in Morrowind, the magic effects appear too plastic (at least they do to me), so here's the solution again, it reduces the plastic look by 50%

Color Map Mod
Nice colored map, yay! This gets a :)

Alyleid Lanterns
Yay, finally some lanterns!

Jarol's NPC Leveled Equipment Mod
This is a must if you don't like getting all that rare stuff all the time.

Landscape LOD Texture Replacement
Replaces the original 1024x1024 landscape LOD textures with improved 2048x2048 textures, which makes the far-off terrain look much less blurry. This version includes only the 12 textures for the 'inner Tamriel' - the part of Cyrodiil you can normally travel across. You can find screenshots on the mod's TES Source page. - It's brilliant!

Hearthstone and Recall
This plugin adds a small object you can drop in your house or base of operations, and a spell that will teleport you back there instantly. Quite handy for looting five times your maximum encumberance from a dungeon... - This is fantastic mod, with a rather humorous readme.

Emperors Face Redone
Looks more like the E3 version.

Less Fog Underwater
Pretty self-explanatory.

Light Elven Weapons and Mithril Armor
Pretty self-explanatory.

Lighter Glass Weapons
Halves the weight of all glass weapons, and enchanted weapons that use a glass weapon animation. My own tweak.

Natural Wildlife
Does what it says.

TF TimeMod
Makes those days a little longer.

Reznod's Mannequins
Show off your fancy armor.

Gaah! Gonna - kill - someone! I've been fighting with these screenshots but I can't get them to work and it makes me feel stupid and I don't like feeling stupid. Help. Please.

So! What I've done is that I've changed that
bAllowScreenShot=0
to
bAllowScreenShot=1
in both .ini files. Okay? But what am I supposed to do with these?
iScreenShotIndex=0
SScreenShotBaseName=Oblivion
They're in there, sure. But am I supposed to change something or.. what?

Looking at mine (I can't remember what I did to it, but screenshots work)

iScreenShotIndex=6
SScreenShotBaseName=ScreenShot

This last one can be anything I'd imagine, but try changing that last one. Do you get the 'Screenshot X has been saved as a .BMP file' message when you press Print Screen?

Hmm... try Tom's advice as I didn't have problems after I did the initial ini.tweak, but I've heard it's different on different installations, don't really know what's causing it.

Hurm... pretty cool "official mods" coming up (Two mage ones :D ):

Anyone think that paying the same amount for the tower and the horse armor is kinda strange?

Note: I recommend waiting a week or two, modders will get you free horse armor pretty soon, without the mod relying on the official plugin.

I see no problem with them official mods at all - horse armor mod was re-released for free d/l the same day it was released, and I'm sure that other mods will follow :lol:

Heh. Let's keep any links to those free releases off the forums though.

Surely - have you noticed how carefully was my previous post composed? ;)

//back to the topic
Of all mods that are currently presented at Planet Elder Scrolls I could also recommend:
- Prompt at 2 items (vendors will ask you how much you want to sell if you have 2 copies of any item, while in original version it's 3)
- Horses Stay Put (Stolen horses didn't run away while you dismount)
- Playable Captain's Armor (Tags certain armor as "usable", somewhy it was not in original)
- More Sky Climates (new funny nice clouds)
- Movable Bodies (could you make a burning pyre out of usual fire in a bandit camp? :devil:)
- Skill Based Harvest (Harvest efficiency now depends on Alchemy skill)
- Unlock Enchantment Spells (miss your good old armor set of constant Restore Health from Morrowind?)
- and finally wery clumsy to install but highly useful mod: BTMod. Among other improvements it allows to bind cursor keys to some useful things, like choosing dialogue options, confirming vendor transactions and the like).

Sorry for absence of direct links, but there's only 8 pages of mods so far anyway and since you know their names it wouldn't be too hard to find them :)

Edit: grammar

Indeed. Yep, I like the BTMod as well, binding enter key for confirming sells and buys is a nice time saver.

Okay, thanks, I tried that, but it still didn't work. Guess it's what Archmage said:

So basically that means that I'll continue to bitterly watch your screencaps and envy everyone else who get their character's faces to the Character Thread. Oh well!

OK, I found solution on one of our local forums and even had tested it to be sure it works. It worked ;)
So: find oblivion.ini file located at "My Documents\My Games\Oblivion" (not oblivion_default.ini in Oblivion dir), find this 2 lines:

bAllowScreenShot=0
iScreenShotIndex=0

in this file and change all "=0" to "=1" in both lines. Now you should be able to make screenshots simply by pressing PrintScreen key. Screenshot files should be in your Oblivion dir.

Yep, if that doesn't work, you'll have to check if it's the Finnish keyboard layout/Oblivion English language bug...

ATTENTION NVIDIA GPU OWNERS

Have you tried the 'Max frame to render' tweak? No? If so, here are the instructions. I really recommend doing this, but still, you alone are responsible for the results, even though it hasn't caused anyone any problems yet.

Update your GPU drivers to the latest beta Forceware 84.25.

Download and install Coolbits.

Go to: Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> GeForceXXXX (Your graphics card version) -> Performance & Quality Settings (On the left tab) -> Additional Direct3D Settings -> Max frames to render ahead: Set to 0 (If 0 doesn't seem to work, try 1).

Boosts performance nicely, resulting in much better FPS.

EDIT: Hahaa, my 3000th post. :D :D

Any opinions on the upcoming 'official' mod, Orrery? https://obliviondown...SubCategoryId=1
The door is located in the game already, as is the room behind it. It is now clear that Beth is charging to fill in gaps in the game, and with things that should have been to begin with. I can't but wonder how stupid some people really are, as there was a similar thread to this on the official forums and half the people who responded said that it doesn't matter and that people shouldn't complain about this... f****** stupid attitude about paying for missing content if you ask me.

I'm not surprised; always expect the worst, that way you won't be too disappointed. <_<
I'd gloat (more) over my accurate prediction if it weren't such a sad case.

Interestingly enough, this new official mod seems to contain more material than the infamous "horse armor" but is still priced the same. It is almost as if Bethesda is trying to determine the minimum content threshold that gamers/guinea pigs would pay for. :devil:
I fear for what Elder Scrolls V would be like once it obtains this data. :ph34r:

The next official mod would probably allow the players to create their own spells and enchant their own items.
I think the wisest choice for those who have not bought Oblivion yet is to wait until the Game of the Year edition comes out and buy the entire game. :lol:

Well, I'm putting great hopes in NWN 2 and Dragon Age, just in case TES V isn't going to be very good anymore without said paid content.

Actually enchanting and spellmaking are in the original game.
