Mystra was killed by Helm during the Time of Troubles when she defied Ao's interdiction to return in god's realm. The Archmage Midnight, who ascended to godhood, took her portofolio and her name.what's with Mystra? is she dead or alive (or something else)?

The Shadow of the Avatar Trilogy by Ed Greenwood and The Avatar Trilogy by Richard Awlinson are the ones which I would recommend.

Sacraficed herself to keep the magic weave intact and passed her power to a peasant girl with a strong affinity to magic.
That girl came to be Mystra. She then died during the times of trouble as she tried to get back to her Godly plane, but was stopped by Helm and killed when she refused to turn back. Her power then passed to the mortal Midnight who ascended and changed her name to Mystra (how confusing
). That is the current Mystra who we know today. The avatar trilogy is good if you are willing to buy online.
