Bad? UUF... I think people were too stunned by the utter cleverness/ludicrous/hilarious fashion of the thing to comment because they were too busy laughing!! . Well done! Great space adaption... and the image of Mazzy at the end...
No.. no... must get image out of my head...

It was great! :thumb:

I will never be able to look at Mazzy the same way again. And if I look at her your way, she'll probably hit me, so thanks to you, I'll never be able to look at Mazzy again...

I liked the story a lot ? the in-jokes were suitably in ("Manager Bondari, we need to reload a new cannister of O2 into your suit."), the technobabble was suitably... umm... technobabbly ("Two giant cables, (Tapered Mono-molecule diamond fibre) each hundreds of miles long, rotated in Toril orbit, the ends touching down to the edge of the atmosphere once every 4 hours.") and all of the characters were cast in roles that I never would have expected but that still could have been no other way.

I must admit I skipped most of the songs, though...

All in all, I would rate the story four turnips and one bottle of turnip beer (and no, I'm not telling you what the scale is):

:turnip: :turnip: :turnip: :turnip: :drunk:
"They have no thought of safety, subtlety, or strategy, leaving others with no hope of stopping their mass assault."

Thank you!!!

urm...considering 4 turnips (considering that it literally costs thousands of gold per ounce to transport foodstuffs into orbit) and a bottle of turnip beer...(since old Korgan's vacuum still exploded, space shine is sold at 500 gp per bottle) why...why...I could retire on 4 turnips and a bottle of beer!!!

I had such fun with the bondari jokes...hehehhehehhe!!!

the technobabble is all accurate...back in 1969, Yuri Artsutanov published in a soviet science magazine Znanije-Sila the first conceptual sketches for a rotovator to transport cargo from earth to orbit using rotating tethers. Hans Moravec a few years later worked out the engineering specs and crunched the numbers. There have been quite a few conceptual variations of the giant elevator from earth to orbit theme that we first read about in Arthur C. Clarke's "Fountains of Paradise"...

but from an engineering standpoint, the Artsutanov-Moravec rotovator is not only the cheapest to build, but the most safe.

Read Robert L. Forward's "Indistinguishable from Magic" for more details...

that for me was the real challenge of this piece..to see if i could write a hard science fiction piece, with as much scientific accuracy as possible...then Bondari walked into my story, and this version ofspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.netspellholdstudios.net mazzy...and without even a by-your-leave proceeded to run rampant and turned it into a comedy... ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ :P  :D

UU!!

You, young man, have TOTALLY outdone yourself.. I had been awaiting this for the past couple of weeks, and was otherwise occupied when it appeared. :) I finally concluding reading it this evening. What a great pick-me-up, UU! Very visual, funny, bright -- all the things we have come to expect from you.. I trust you won't stop here, however, and we will patiently await a 'sequel'. ;)

Well, I kinda was thinking of ripping off more ideas from science fiction stories...

ever seen the discovery channel mythbusters?

hmmm...i even have a skit worked out, kinda...

minsc and jan as the gnomebusters...

adam/jan: Remember, don't try this at home. we're what you call experts.

jamie/minsc: actually boo says we're idiots... <_<

maybe do more cruel and unusual things to mazzy? hmmm...

well, that's always fun...will have to think about the ending...and the final jokes... :vbat: :vbat: :vbat:
