Anyone who is interested in translating the Rogue Rebalancing mod into a foreign language should announce it here or simply send me a PM. FYI, all dialogue, item descriptions and any other in-game text introduced by this mod is present in the game.tra file. Additionally, all strings that are displayed during the installation are present in the setup.tra file. Both of these files reside in the rr\tra\english folder.

Therefore, you only need to translate the contents of these files into your language and send me a copy so that I can include your translation into the next revision of the mod. If you have any additional questions regarding the translation process, feel free to post them in the comments thread. The current status of the known translations for the Rogue Rebalancing mod is listed here. All entries have been color coded in accordance to their status:

Green = the translation has been completed and is now fully integrated into the latest version of the mod
Blue = the translation is available but it is slightly outdated (the larger part is fully functional, any missing lines will be displayed in English)
Orange = the translation has been formally announced on the forum and is currently being worked on
Red = a translation exists but it is highly outdated and not compatible with the latest version of the mod
Grey = the translation may be worked on, but it has not been formally announced on the forum

Currently available/announced translations:
  • French - completed (by Mornagest, Thot, Mathrim Cauthon, Lothringen, Maël and Graoumf of the d'Oghmatiques)
  • Spanish - completed (by Immortality, SirLancelot, Nieve, Clan DLAN and Lisandro)
  • German - slightly outdated (by Cronox and Leomar)
  • Italian - completed (by Andrea C. and ilot)
  • Russian - completed (by Alina, Pilferer, Fess, ATG, Vit MG and Tanger Soto of Aerie.ru and Prowler, Hawkmoon, Njkzy & Silent of Arcanecoast.ru)
  • Japanese - slightly outdated (by Taro)
  • Polish - completed (by Clan Children of Bhaal - BoRo & Kinski)
Useful tools:
  • TREP (v1.1) [link] - this program allows you to manage and translate TRA files efficiently by offering a user-friendly graphical interface
  • Dialogue Checker (v1.0) [link] - a tool that allows translators or modders to check and edit files on the fly in search for dialog errors

As of RR v4.60, the layout of TRA files will be slighly different. Instead of a single rr.tra file, the strings are split into different TRA files depending on whether they are displayed during the installation of the mod or in-game. This is done in order to have a single character encoding per file and to accommodate the fact that different platforms use different character encodings. All languages have a game.tra file, which only holds strings that are displayed in-game. English has a setup.tra file, which holds strings that are displayed during the translation. Other languages [1] have three files instead of setup.tra: setup-win32.tra, setup-osx.tra and setup-unix.tra, which each use the right character encoding for the target platform. The problem of Windows XP using CP850 (or the non-western equivalent) while later Windows versions use CP1252 (or the non-western equivalent) remains.

I have already made these changes for the existing translations, and I opted to use CP1252 for the western-European non-English setup-win32.tra files and Shift JIS for the Japanese translation. If you want to look it over and/or advocate a change, feel free to do so.

1. Except Russian, for which the translators opted to go without translations for the installation strings.
