What is the IWD2 NPC Project?
The Icewind Dale 2 NPC Project by Domi breathes new life into Icewind Dale 2 with the addition of 10 party joinable, talkative NPCs! Those familiar with Baldur's Gate II will likely welcome the enhanced interaction.

How much content do they have?
Each NPC has a large amount of dialogue with the Protagonist, as well as banter with each of the party NPCs. Different NPCs have differing amounts of content, however.

Are there romances in the IWD2 NPC Project?
There sure are! There are 4 romances in all, 3 for each gender including one bisexual romance. Salomeya and Peony will romance a male Protagonist, Jaemal will romance both males and females and Rizdaer will romance a female Protagonist. There are also some characters with romantic content, but not full romances - Diriel has some romantic content with an elven, female Protagonist, Nikosh has some with a female Halfling or Gnome, Hildury with a male half-orc, and Prachi with a male of any race.

IWD2 NPC List:
  • Diriel (Neutral Evil, Male, Moon Elf, Druid)
  • Hildury (Chaotic Good, Female, Half-orc, Barbarian)
  • Jaemal (Neutral Good, Male, Aasimar, Sorcerer)
  • Nikosh (True Neutral, Male, Lightfoot Halfling, Rogue)
  • Sir Nord (Lawful Good, Male, Human, Paladin of Helm)
  • Peony Chaotic Neutral, Female, Rock Gnome, Illusionist)
  • Prachi (Lawful Neutral, Female, Human, Monk of the Old Order)
  • Rizdaer (Lawful Evil, Male, Drow Elf, Fighter)
  • Salomeya (Chaotic Evil, Female, Half-elf, Bard)
  • Valeero (Neutral Good, Female, Human, Priestess of Lathander)
Just a note: the portraits in that thread aren't up to date - this thread has all the final portraits, created by the wonderful MrsCake!

Are there any reviews I can read?
There aren't any official reviews as of yet, but there are several threads commenting on the mod and it's characters:So if you've ever played through Icewind Dale 2 and bemoaned the lack of NPCs and NPC interaction, this is the mod for you!

Please, be aware that it is a public alpha, and it may(and does) have some unsorted issues yet. It is currently available for testing.

Read this thread for further information.
(First post only: the thread is full of spoilers).

Heya, thanks for pinning it. I can't however emphasize enough the importance of Kulyok's addition: the project is ready for play-testing, not playing :) I'll definetly be posting around when we go into beta and final versions. So, please, unless you are interested in play-testing, hang on there.

Hmmm... might be time to dig out IWD2 again... mod looks very interesting.

The mod is brilliant! Playing it and loving every minute of it -- but you already know my opinion, Domi. :)
'NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency! Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surpr-... I'll come in again.

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!... Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms - Oh damn!'

Thanks :)

Diriel has some romantic content with an elven, female Protagonist

Heh, so does Nikosh with a female Halfling or Gnome, Hildury with a Male Half-Orc and Prachi with any male, though admittedly, Prachi has the least of them.

I'm itching to get started with this mod to turn IWD II into a real game, but the G3 download page gives this message: "This menu has been disabled." Help, please?
I did battle with monsters, and they became me, and when I gazed into the abyss, the abyss looked away shyly.
See, it helps not to believe all the stuff that philosophers spout.

...It does? *checks* It doesn't for me...

(oh, btw, and it isn't an alpha anymore, it is already V2)

Yes it did, twice, earlier today. Now it's working and I'm downloading V2 as I write. Whatever the problem was, third time lucky, I guess.

Thanks for checking!!!

Being a HUGE fan of the Baldur's Gate Saga, I was nearly screaming with joy when I found this mod. lol.

Excellent work, I love it. However, I would have liked to have seen more of a romance with Prachi or Vallero. They are both umm quite Hot. hehe. :)

Good work. Maybe some updates?

Cheers,

Crypts Of The Dead

UPDATE: Wasn't as good as I thought. The further I got into it, the more I didn't like it. Sorry. Has much potential though. Drop the backstory, the extra bio and the stupid wet nurse, and then you'll have a good mod.

If you check the mod's forum, it's been declared finished and that no more work will be done on it.

That said, I feel the romances are the weakest aspect of it. A NE elf with an agenda of genocide, CE sociopathic seductress, LE rogue drow (who is *faithful* to the depiction of drow as evil), CN gnome who is clinically incapable of acting mature or responsible, and a NG sorcerer with wangst and woobie-dom coming out of his ears. I'll pass, on all of them.

You have a point.

The thing I didn't think was needed was the extra bio, backstory for the PC, and that power-hungry wet nurse who keeps calling you a "pup." I wanted to kill him when he first spoke to me. He and the backstory sort of ruined it for me. I felt like I couldn't choose my own course.

Still a good mod though. It brings some extra life into the game, instead of people just following you around, like as in Diablo 2.

The mod could be much better if someone wanted to toy with it. I for one have modded Morrowind and Oblivion, but the infinity engine for the Bioware games is just too crazy for me.

Any ways. I played through the mod, and probably won't use it again. It was a good change, but not for me in the end.

Peace,

Crypts Of The Dead
