Timeline in Baldur's Gate?

I have been discussing this with BG fans for a couple weeks now. And here are some LOVELY anomalies in the Baldur's Gate Timeline! (yes, I am aware that the game is not technically canon, but whatevs)

-According to the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, the Time of Troubles occured in 1358DR. In game, it states that you are 20 years old, no matter what race you are, meaning that the game would take place in 1378DR. The game internally labels the beginning date as 1 Mirtul, 1369. Notice the problem?

-Elves, on average, reach adulthood at 120 years of age. Beginning "Baldur's Gate" as an elf, would mean that your character is still in diapers. For it to work properly if you play as an elf, it would mean that your elf would need to be in the vicinity of 120 years old. Meaning that, if you play as an elf, the game happens 100 years after it happens.

Anyone else notice more anomalies with timeline in game?

The argument. "Bhaal walked the land before the cataclysm. He left a score of bastard children, meant to be the fuel for his rebirth." Something like that. It could be centuries before the ToT that he walked the lands.

See above answer. Arguments have appeared that Bhaal's essence allowed his children to age faster. Perhaps the game meant the equivalent to 20, which would leave the elves at 130-140 or so(Humans reach maturity at 15 apparently, Elves debatably 110 or 120).

Well, something that also needs to be kept in mind is that the current canonical timeline was written at the end of 3E, on the way to 3.5 conversion. The game was 2E, so it may not click with what we have now.

I personally dislike the "Bhaalspawn age faster" bit. Kobolds, like most monstrous creatures, tend to mature faster than humans, so if the "age faster" factor was put in, the kobold and animal Bhaalspawn that show up in ToB on the way to the Dragon stronghold would be elderly (considering Bhaal died 11 years before), or would be too young (age faster) for Bhaal to have fathered them.

Call me lame, but I don't think the people behind the Bhaalspawn saga either...
A: Didn't care about the timeline (like many of us <_< )
or B: Forgot about it.
It seems that none of the BG Bhaalspawn series was meant to make sense in my opinion, after all... how many people out there think the whole situation regarding the Bhaalspawn kinda wrapped up too easily, almost making Alaundo's prohecies nothing more, than a paranoid nusiance?

It was great, gamewise and storywise. But if you want it in a historic factor, it would make one anti-climactic history text.

I'm sorry, but although I love the game to absolute death, and it is my fave game of all time...I'm not a nutty fangirl. I'll admit there were weak points. CHARNAME was a bit of a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. Half phoenix and half veela and half Japanese OH AND HALF GOD WHOO SLAYER FORM HEAL AT WILL POCKET PLANE WHEEEE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF GOLD LETS SLEEP WITH JAHEIRA/VICONIA/AERIE/ANOMEN AND IF YOU HAVE MODS IMOEN/EDWIN/MAZZY TOO!

I mean, I love it, but it can get a little silly :)

Bhaalspawn are canon now, Murder in Baldur's Gate added the main character from the novelization into the canon so he could be murdered and set off the events of the module. Also, elves reach physical maturity at the same rate as humans. But they're not considered to be mature adults until well into their second century. So until their first lifetime's worth of experiences, they could almost just be human.

Maybe i misunderstood the question. But, Bhaal has prepared his contingency plan far before the times of troubles. At the "times of troubles" he was already dead.

So, it is obvious his progeny is older than the times of troubles. The only problem might be the age for non-human races.

 

Considering Gorion is a human, and he stole a newborn, your elf character must have grown rapidly.

Flaw in the original BG2 game: there was supposed to have been a few weeks or months at Suldanesselar after the return from Hell and before Throne of Bhaal starts. Enough time for PCs to be healed and rested. Need to alter any cutscenes at the end in Suldanesselar so that the party is actually healed and rested!

Items from PCs killed in Hell should be dumped in this city not in the Forest of Tethyr. Obviously there should be time for resurrected PCs to re-equip their gear.
It is generally the lack of internal consistency that I don't like.
Probably have the expansion start from a house in Suldanesselar. Ellesime says that the protagonist was dead for a few days at most, hence at least a few days have elapsed between Hell and ToB. I get the impression it is more like weeks or months. Especially given the time needed for the mayhem spread by the Five.

There are some mods which try to bridge this gap, there is a discussion here http://gibberlings3....795#entry241325 even if that is focussed on EET there is some relevance for BGT as well.
