This thread is for posting stuff you've discovered about the game that you're pretty sure no one knew about. A good rule of thumb on deciding that is that if it's mentioned in Dan Simpson's PS:T Walkthrough, it's going to be pretty widely known.

But I just found a pretty big thing that I didn't know about, that isn't mentioned in any walkthrough that I've seen, and that actually gets you a potentially previously unknown stat boost. It's a spoiler though.

Did you catch that? SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD. Don't read it and then complain.

Okay. SPOILERS BEWARE. Here we go. Scroll down.

In Dan Simpson's Walkthrough, it says this, regarding your conversation with Ravel in her maze:

"After that ask what OTHER forms she has taken, and she'll reveal that she was Mebbeth, Ei-Vene and Marta. Ask about Mebbeth and tell her that Mebbeth was kind to you, therefore Ravel was kind to you. Follow this to get:

WIS +1
90,000 experience"

This is incomplete. The reward you will get here is dependent upon what answer you gave to Mebbeth previously, back in the Hive. She asked you why you wanted to learn the Art, and you were given 3 options:

1. Because I just want to know.
2. Because I may need it to solve the mystery of who I am.
3. Because I want power.

Dan Simpson must've picked option 2 (and so did I, always, and I bet so do most people), because 90k xp and +1 WIS is what you get if you picked that option.

But if you picked option 1, you get 90k xp and +1 INT instead.

And... here's the kicker, if you picked option 3 (which gets you a small evil alignment hit when you say it to Mebbeth, for the record), you get 120k xp and +1 INT -and- +1 WIS :)

Pretty cool, eh? :D

I don't have to write a SPOILER warning, eh? Anyway I think this isn't mentioned in DSimpsons walkthrough: When you return to Sigil you can visit a dying Ravel/Mebbeth. If you still have one of the black barbed seeds you can get in her maze you can give it to her to save her life.

Indeed, and in fact, doing so is a necessary first step for the Expanded Deionarra's Truth mod. SAVE ONE OF THOSE SEEDS! They are the ones which you can scribe into your spell book, by the way, and you can also turn them into wands in the twig plots in her garden (which won't work for Mebbeth), so be careful. It's possible to get 6 seeds if you have the right stats and/or class, so that should allow you to scribe it for two mages and make all 3 wands from the twig plots, leaving you 1 for Mebbeth. If you don't give her one of those seeds, you'll only see about 1/3 of the new content of the mod, and miss out on the really good stuff, including all the Black Isle dialogue that the mod is meant to make accessible.

And I just found another interesting tidbit:

At the very beginning of the game, it's possible to get into a conversation between Vaxis and Morte where you can reply:

"Truth: "That doesn't seem constructive to anyone. Some order, some law is always necessary for progress to be made."

If you do so, Scofflaw Penn will not permit you to join the Anarchists, even if you do all of Bedai Lihn's quests and get her password.

I kinda suspect that you were only meant to be cut-off if you actually turned Vaxis in to Dhall or Soego, because that makes a bit more sense and the variable names are -very- similar ("Lawful_Vaxis_3" and "Lawful_Vaxis_1"). But an argument could be made either way, so I'm not touching it.

Another very cool thing:

Ebb Creakknees' dialogue in Curst gets lots more interesting if you've previously betrayed the Anarchists or otherwise talked to Scofflaw Penn in such a way that he knows you're against his beliefs.

Shambelle,

No need to spoiler tag in this thread, it's spoilers by definition :)

As for yours, there is indeed dialogue to that effect, but I'm not sure if it is accessible in game. If it IS accessible, I'm pretty sure it's only if you either got the ghouls to go on a rampage or if you got Many As One to no longer worry about the SK and run amok.

There's hints that if you were to do either of those things, the Buried Village would get wiped out (and Ojo would be the only one remaining, with the dialogue in question), but it seems to have been cut from the game. I'd be interested in restoring it as a UB component, if there were anything more interesting than what I just described to restore.

It would be nice to restore any Ojo dialog, if there is any. It's rather clear that you expect something more to happen with him, but never does.

One of the cooler moments in PST was when you actually got to use the fact that you are immortal in conversations/quests. I really liked that you could let yourself get killed by the Githyaki and eavesdrop on their plans about the raid.

Another interesting thing:

Cendrian describe the Modron Maze when you ask him about Limbo...
At the time, you don't know what it is.

By the way, you can ask Cendrian about all the Outer Planes except one: Pandemonium (Chaotic Neutral(Evil)).
I think this plane has been forgotten when the dialogues were written...

Old Copper Eye is a tough nut to crack.
He is almost invincible.
He is linked to a quest which was skipped...(perhaps with the forged dead contract, I don't remember well)

Other than in the spell that doesn't exist in the game, Pandemonium is referenced three times in the game:

1. By Quell, as a curse.

Spoiler

2. By Goncalves, as a curse.

Spoiler

3. In the item description of Bolts of Whistling Doom:

Spoiler

Yup. 32000 hit points, same as Lothar. And yep, that quest was skipped. Can't really tell from what's there what the whole thing was meant to amount to... basically seems to be a way to get 50 copper without -actually- signing a contract, but since signing contracts has no effect whatsoever in game (despite Fell's warning), I don't see it as worth adding a whole bunch of new content in order to restore a small amount that doesn't really have any impact on the game.

In the Dead Nations, for one hour out of every 24 game hours (I -think- between 6pm-7pm), Hargrimm moves up to the podium and preaches, and all the skeletons move to the pews to listen to him. It's such a short period of time that its very easy to miss even over several playthroughs.

Interesting
But I think it is strange that Cendrian, explorer extraordinaire of all the planes, don't tell about it. <_<

I remember an old interview with C. Avellone...
He said (from memory) that he was supposed to be the Proxy of a God of Death or something like this.
I will see if I find it.

Edit: I found it on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg

Chris Avellone

Re: PS:T Old Coppereyes

He was supposed to be the proxy of some god of death, like Charon, but all he ended up being was some silent guy with copper eyes and 32000 hit points. Just another normal day in development.

Chris

In the Smoldering Corpse Bar, if you have some embalming fluid in your inventory when you talk to Mochai about her bar tab, you are given the option of poisoning her drink with it.

You like your Lim-Lim ?
No, you love your Lim-Lim ?

Then don't go to Negative Energy Plane with it: The plane will suck his life and he will die... :crying:

Oh, and it could be worse as it becoming an undead.
An undead Lim-Lim, what a dreadful sight...

This should really go under "Really Strange Things"...

But while looking at all the various HP issues that still need fixing, noticed something very odd... Dak'kon with 20 CON will actually regenerate slightly faster than TNO with 20 CON!

Considering TNO's innate regeneration, that seems out of whack.

It does, but it's just a fluke of the way they did the numbers, I think.

If you have Near Infinity, take a look at the last two columns of HPCONBON.2DA.

A lower number means regeneration is faster, right? This would be because Dak'kon uses the 65 and TNO the 75?

Both of them with a 20 CON value is the only time where Dak'kon will regenerate faster than TNO, if I'm seeing this correctly.

You are reading it correctly.

Both the non-TNO and TNO sequences are pretty straightforward. It's a straight mathematical formula for each. It just happens that at that single constitution score, Dak'kon's is slightly faster than TNO's. At 21+, TNO's numbers are again better than Dak'kon's.

I'm guessing that Dak'kon's numbers are based on 2nd ed. tables. Lacking an entirely new mathematical formula for me to put in place of either Dak'kon's or TNO's, any fix I could apply would be entirely arbitrary. I really do try to do my best to avoid arbitrary decisions like that. At this point, I'd have to say it's more of a slightly flawed design than a "bug".

Besides, the difference in regen is minor enough that I doubt anyone would notice in game.

EDIT: I should point out that when I say "Dak'kon", I really mean the constitution table for -any- NPC other than TNO. I just refer to Dak'kon cause as far as I know he's the easiest to get to that score.
