I'm sorry for inexact description but I have localized (czech) version of game, so I don't know exact name of quest and so...

When I'm in Alley of Lingering Sighs and finish quest for "stone head in wall" it shows video sequence, load screen and transport me to ward (don't know which). Than some "auto sequence" starts (characters avatars are "greyed"). Every character go into combat position and wait and wait and wait... Nothing happens even after long time.

I have 2CD version of game with widescreen mod and ghostdogs ui and latest versions of PS:T Fixpack, UB and Tweak. I tried to google for some solution but nothing usefull.

Maybe important is that I'm playing Torment on Linux with Wine 1.1.40, but this is my first problem, everything works like a charm before.

I'm attaching saved game before talking with "stone head in wall", same problem happens every time. I also tried to make new save but it doesn't help. To repeat just load it, go to area with stone head and talk to it finishing quest...

Thanks for any ideas or help.

There should be a scripted sequence where Morte gets kidnapped in Lower Ward. There is nothing wrong with your saved game because event worked fine after I popped it into my 2cd install. I'm not sure what to do maybe a clean install. Qwinn or someone else might have more experience with what's going wrong with sequence.

Those interested in the classic TBS game Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri / Alien Crossover should check out the unofficial patch I work on here.

So it have to be something broken on my side. I already tried clean install before I asked here, but thank you for tip. Would you be so kind, load my saved game and send me new save after this scripted sequence? All scripted sequences before works fine for me, so maybe this one is only problematic.

Here you go, hopefully it will work. Although if your setup has problem with these kind of events you're going to run into a lot more problems as game progresses. I tried to see if I could find a vid of what you had to skip but couldn't. Pretty much a merchant distracts party (TNO/Annah), Morte wanders a little off and gets skullnapped by two wererats. You now have to try and track down where Morte was taken by talking to folks in vicinity.

Maybe there is someone with more experience with wine but it looks like you shouldn't be having this problem.

Thanks a million time. It works! I'll let you know after some other sequence, if it is problem of all or just this one. I know winehq page of PS:T but I wasn't sure if it is problem of wine or some known problem in game.

Well I know that sequence has had problems in the past but what you describe I haven't heard before. Another thing you could try is with your original saved game, kick Morte out of party say in Tenement of Thugs then zone into Lower Ward via stone head. If that works, then go back and get Morte and try to zone in again this time with Morte in party.

So far I met one small scripted sequence and it works fine. I will try your tip with kicking out Morte and let you know.

Sorry for long delay, I have no time for play so far.

If I kick Morte before this sequence, everything works fine even after I return for him lately and go to this area. So thanks for this tip.

Huh. I'm stumped too. That *has* to be the first time you're entering the Lower Ward, so, yeah, the area wouldn't even exist in a save game prior to the event. If it works when you remove Morte from the party, then it's not about the movie or the worldmap opening up at that point, since both happen whether he's in party or not. That pretty much means it's the cutscene. And I've never been able to make it fail. I don't even need to touch that scene for Subtitled Cutscenes, cause it was originally done complete with stringheads.

It's a Wine thing, is the only answer I can think of. I spent years on SCO-Unix, but not Linux, I'm afraid, so I can't be of much help without a Linux system to look at.

The wine "crash" (more like hang) when resting appears to be a gcc bug (they are SSE autoaligning on 16 bytes - whatever that means), and wine and a lot of othher software is not ready for it.

There is probably a woraround by compiling wine with a additional command i forget. Might work for this too.

Hi!

I'm bringing back this thread because I've been experiencing the exact same bug while playing PST (GOG.com French version) on Linux through WINE 1.6, with FixPack 4.13 installed.
As already said, it can be avoided by not having Morte in the party the first time you enter the Lower Ward, but the kidnapping event won't trigger when you come back with Morte in your party.

I'm going to run some tests with different WINE versions, with French and English version of the game, and with and without the FixPack to see if I can spot what is triggering this bug. It might take some time as I'll need to go through Pharod's quest multiple times, but I think it shouldn't take too long with a stealth-oriented TNO.

Should I find anything that might help indentify what is triggering this bug, I'll come back to report it here.

I ran my tests, here come the results.

_PS:T vanilla, both English and French version, both WINE 1.6 and WINE 1.7:
The cutscene play as you enter the Lower Ward for the first time with Morte in your team, Morte gets kidnapped as he should.

_PS:T + FixPack 4.13, both English and French version, both WINE 1.6 and WINE 1.7:
When you enter the Lower Ward for the first time with Morte in your team, the interface is greyed out as usual, but the merchant never comes and the game is stuck at this point.
If you enter the Lower Ward for the first time without Morte in your team, the cuscene doesn't play (obviously) and so the game won't get stuck, but if you come back later with Morte the kidnapping won't happen.

Tests with the FixPack have been done with no other mod installed, and nothing gets logged in torment.err nor torment.log when you "force quit" the game while it is stuck through Alt+F4.

Please tell me if you need any additional information.

Using vv221's saves I was able to locate the exact fix in the fixpack that triggers the bug - it's the first one of pst-fix/tph/pfixpack.tph .

Remove the lines from « // Fixpack: "The Alley of Lingering Sighs was supposed to open up once you reached the Lower » (line 44) to line 80 (just before the next fix, « // Fixpack: "If you had any Magic Resistance while copying the Circles of Zerthimon to your spell » ) before applying the fixpack (if you already apply it, first unapply, then edit, then re-apply) and it'll work.

I'm looking how to do the proper fix for that (small) issue without disrupting the cutscene when entering the Lower Ward, but my WeiDU skills aren't very high so it might take some time.
