Hello. I tried emailing MajorTomSawyer a few days ago, but the address seemed to have a typo in it, so I thought I would try my luck here just in case. I'm using Windows XP service pack 3 and EasyTuTu has been playing fine on it so far. I decided to get some mods and have been following the order suggested on Gibberlings 3 in this thread. I got up to installing Baldur's Goth, but the installation fails in the same place every time. I receive two errors: one in WeiDU for not being able to find something to copy, and one after I quit for not being able to find the README file. Thank you for your time in advance.

Here are the contents of my WeiDU.log:

// Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods

I checked to see if I could install just the color changes and the portraits separately, but after I installed the portraits (skipping the new main screen images at the time), and ran the installer again they were uninstalled when I chose "Changed Paperdoll Colours Only" which couldn't be installed still.

I tried installing the new main screen images, which completed, but when I ran TuTu, something strange happened. I did get a changed main screen, but it was the Shadows of Amn screen, and the subtitle was in German - "Industrie von Amn." I liked the look, but I only ever installed English versions. Curious, I hit new game, imported one of the premade BG1 characters, but when I accepted, I was then told to insert Disc 2. The disc it finally accepted was for Shadows of Amn, even though I had to use the Throne of Bhaal disc up until now (since I installed it before installing EasyTuTu). I found my character in the tutorial hall in Baldur's Gate II as a level 1/1 illusionist/thief. I went through it until I was supposed to be introduced to Xan, but he never appeared and Belt wouldn't say anything more.

I uninstalled the main screen images. My copy of TuTu seems to play properly after that, requiring the Throne of Bhaal disc once again and starting my new character in Candlekeep. So, has anyone had anything similar to this happen to them? Any idea why it tried to run SoA using TuTu? I uninstalled BGII before I even began playing TuTu.

Hello. I tried emailing MajorTomSawyer a few days ago

MTS hasn't been around for a while. Someone needs to rouse him out of his dark corner and get him to update his mods :).*

I receive two errors: one in WeiDU for not being able to find something to copy

This is a bug. To get it working, you'll need to open up the Setup-TuTu_BGoth.tp2 file in a text editor and change every instance of COPY_EXISTING_REGEXP to COPY_EXISTING_REGEXP GLOB (there's about 10 of these).

and one after I quit for not being able to find the README file.

This is a harmless typo you can ignore. Or you can change every instance of AT_INTERACTIVE_EXIT ~VIEW Tutu_BGoth/README-BGothII.txt~ to AT_INTERACTIVE_EXIT ~VIEW Tutu_BGoth/README-TuTu_BGoth.txt~. (Though the whole AT_INTERACTIVE thing is a bit obsolete and should probably use the README command instead, but whatever.)

I tried installing the new main screen images, which completed, but when I ran TuTu, something strange happened... I found my character in the tutorial hall in Baldur's Gate II as a level 1/1 illusionist/thief.

As for this, I don't know. I did test this mod ages ago but don't think this happened to me. From what I can tell, it just overwrites the startup MOS files which control that screen appearance. Maybe uninstalling BG2 has something to do with it - you might check the paths in your baldur.ini file or something.

* For posterity, I reported both of these errors 3 years ago, and MTS replied:

Thanks for the updates. I'll get to work on fixing these as soon as I can.

Thank you for your response, and also for your installation order over at G3. The README errors were the same one you pointed out before - the file it should have been looking for and does open successfully after "second component" is README-TuTu_BGoth.txt, rather than README-BGothII.txt.

But now that I have read some of the thread you linked to and looked in the Setup-TuTu_BGoth.tp2, I'm confused. Do I need to download Baldur's Goth II v3.1 in order to modify Indira? She's a TuTu only NPC, as I understand it, but doesn't seem to be mentioned in that .tp2 file nor have new portraits.

As for this, I don't know. I did test this mod ages ago but don't think this happened to me. From what I can tell, it just overwrites the startup MOS files which control that screen appearance. Maybe uninstalling BG2 has something to do with it - you might check the paths in your baldur.ini file or something.

Well, I did figure out why I went to the tutorial - I had forgotten I accidentally clicked tutorial but canceled the character creation there before starting a new game. I just tested this now without Baldur's Goth of any kind installed, and it will still trigger that. I guess clicking "Tutorial" sets a flag in the game which isn't reset if you cancel. However, it did not ask for a different CD, and I had my Throne of Bhaal disc in the drive.

As for my paths, here is the Alias section of my baldur.ini file:
[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Program Files\BaldursGateTutu\
CD1:=D:\CD1\
CD2:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD2\;D:\CD2\;C:\Program Files\BaldursGateTutu\CD2\
CD3:=D:\CD3\
CD4:=D:\CD4\
CD5:=D:\CD5\
If I understand this, because I uninstalled BGII (and I didn't build TuTu from the largest installation of it possible), it will look for a directory which isn't on my hard drive, then the 2nd BGII disc (yet I need ToB's disc to play the game), but then it should look at the CD2 folder on my hard drive if I don't have that disc in, shouldn't it? It currently contains \Movies\Movies.bif only. Does that seem correct?

Finally, I did proceed with installing other mods since I uninstalled Baldur's Goth v1. The Refinements Shapeshifter fix, Rogue Rebalancing, EasyTuTu Spawn Randomizer, and Drizzt Is Not Supid. Do you think I will need to uninstall these before installing BGoth v1 (and possibly BGII v3.1)?

I think so, but like I said, it's been years since I tested this. And I wasn't sure whether the NPCs even got their modded portraits - would probably have to CLUA them in to check. Also like I said in that other thread, MTS should combine all these installers into one. It'd be much easier to maintain and easier for the end users.

As for my paths, here is the Alias section of my baldur.ini file:

You really should've used a custom/full install (both BG1 and BG2) for Tutu, especially if you uninstalled BG2. If correct all those paths should point to folders within your Tutu install folder, *or* to ones in your BG2 folder if you have that installed, but if not, it might cause problems.

Probably not, no. In fact you could probably install Baldur's Goth after all other mods and be ok, since it's a graphical mod. In fact, the screen component is GUI-related so it makes sense to put that at the end anyway (if it works and you want it).

Well, circumstances being what they are I did not have the space to do so. I installed the "screens" again, and while I'm not being asked for a SoA disc, it still does bother me a bit not knowing how it ever came to be the SoA screen, not ToB. Plus, it says "Industrie von Amn" which isn't even the correct subtitle in German - "Schatten von Amn" would be.

I think so, but like I said, it's been years since I tested this. And I wasn't sure whether the NPCs even got their modded portraits - would probably have to CLUA them in to check. Once again, thanks for your help. Speaking of the modded portraits and suggestions, BGT: Baldur's Goth (GTBGT v3.1) asked at the end if I would like to copy the character portraits into the portraits directory, but it actually copied them into the override directory.

I made the suggested changes to my Setup-TuTu_BGoth.tp2 file, but it still gives the same error. Is the problem with the command or with the text/filename it is attempting to find? Any idea if those are the correct special characters?
COPY_EXISTING_REGEXP GLOB ~^_dwin.*\.cre$~ ~override~
It seems like a bit extra to search for "Edwin.cre"

I think it's just the name of the group that made the screen - "Amn Industries" or whatever.

Heh. Well I guess there's more than one typo here. For most of these resources, Tutu doesn't substitute an underscore but rather prefixes them with one. There's actually a better way to do this that will cover all platforms (BGT/Tutu) using variables and ACTION_IF/ACTION_FOR_EACH but I won't make you learn WeiDU coding on the fly. It should work if you insert the first character of each NPC's name in there, so:
COPY_EXISTING_REGEXP GLOB ~^_edwin.*\.cre$~ ~override~
Et cetera. You still need the GLOB because Tutu's resources are in the override folder by default (even if they weren't some other mod may have copied them there).

That worked! Thank you very much for your help. Would you mind pointing out a good source if I (or someone else) does want to read about that ACTION_IF/ACTION_FOR_EACH code you mentioned? After poking around in these files, my interest is a a little piqued, though I don't know if it's enough to begin modding seriously - I do want to play the game at some point.

The WeiDU documentation is ok, though it's not the sort of thing you would read from beginning to end. Think of it more like a dictionary - if you're wondering about specific commands, you can look them up.

It doesn't have full examples for everything though. I gave some examples for the ACTION_FOR_EACH/ACTION_IF FILE_EXISTS_IN_GAME type of routine here but I don't think it's made it in the documentation yet. Basically, you would just pass all affected files to that routine, so it can cut down on your code quite a bit, and it's a lot faster than REGEXP.

I do want to play the game at some point.

Well modding will definitely keep you from doing that. Though we do need more modders, at least to replace the old ones (like MTS) who aren't around as much anymore :(.

Ha ha, it sounded as if the topic is attacking the mod by stating it fails!!

But we all know that's a lie~ Good luck on having your problem solved

Huh? I don't know if "attacking" is the right word, but the install did fail, or will unless you make the tp2 fixes above.

Heh, sorry if I confused you, it was meant to be a joke, guess my English is so crude and accented like Yoshimo's that you could not understand the humor (Or many can't..)

I think to rephrase it would be uhh.... The topic title sounded as if saying the mod itself is a failure, and I think that's funny? By saying that's a lie meaning the mod is a success!!

Simply ignore me, since I can't be of help to you hardworking coders, my humor fails most of the time
