I'm not sure... That 48-page hardcover ?Art of Mass Effect 2? book sure looks tempting....... (I'm a huge sucker for video game concept art, my desktop is always something from Dreamfall or Dragon Age's concept art)

Actually I already pre-ordered the game, but that looks pretty cool.

I was wondering if anyone (or perhaps you, Archmage Silver, you were such a treasure trove of information on the subject for Dragon Age: Origins), knows how to acquire the Collector's Edition in Europe? I've been looking on Amazon.co.uk, and the usual sites, but it never seems to be available. Am I just blind? :(

Game have it on their web site. It may be exclusive to them, as with Dragon Age.

Back from the brink.

Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

Followed their mercenary calling

After a little bit of digging, here's what I came up with. From what I saw on the Mass Effect 2 Official Bioware site and forums, they're apparently linking to sites like Amazon.com, EA Store and GameStop for the Collector's Edition (except I never managed to find the CE on EA or Game Stop, and Amazon only has it on .com and will only ship it to the US; there's no Collector's Edition listed on Amazon.co.uk). *However*, from what I read on the forums, they're still negotiating with I don't know what authority to sell the CE in Europe (apparently, they negotiating stuff like price, changing the packaging or what). So we may still see a CE in Europe, it's just not available. Yet.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, I really want that hardcover ?Art of Mass Effect 2? book.

Misinformation I'm afraid, because I've already pre-ordered my copy - I also did quick search and came up with 4 different stores that have the ME2 CE (English obviously) available for pre-order here. Those are in addition to the store from which I pre-ordered my copy (for 38.30€ with postage fees I might add, as I got 25€ off the price with a gift certicate earned from previous orders).

ME2 CE in the UK:

Play has Mass Effect 2 regular edition for sale with Play.com Exclusive Terminus Assault Armour Unlock Code. That's a part of the pre-order program bonus content, mentioned first in this article. Otherwise the stores I linked to seem to have exactly the same content as in the US edition, unlike the Game exclusive plastic Dragon Age CE.

I hope this post clears up things a bit.

My understanding is that, if you preorder the normal version you get one set of in-game items, and if you get the CE you get different items, but pre-ordering the CE does -not- get you the items that you get from preordering the normal version. Which is silly on their part, IMHO. I might pre-order the CE if it got me everything, but if it's just a choice between one set of items and another, I'll go for the cheaper version.

I wouldn't be so sure about it, I still got all the bonus items when I pre-ordered the DA CE, so I don't see why they would suddenly change their policy regarding pre-order bonuses.

Archmage Silver, you are so many different kinds of awesome, i don't know how to say thank you, but I will say this... Thank you so much! ^_^ I wonder why the forums on the official web site would say that though, it's really odd, and it's not like the posts were old and outdated, too. Weird. *shrugs*

No problem, always glad to be of assistance. :)

EA usually tries to boost their official partners, so they wouldn't actually mention contracts negotiated with other retailers by wholesalers. Some stores also just import the US version.

In the end, official forum posts in general aren't that comprehensive anyway. You can usually find more info on unofficial sites and by checking online stores yourself.

Or just ask me, that works too. ;)

P.S. Here's a larger version of the CE contents poster:

Well, the gamestop in-game items look a bit better to me than the ones available pre-ordering via other retailers, so I tried to see if I could find the CE preordered via Gamestop, and I can't find it. Looks like they stopped taking orders from it somewhere along the line. Googling brings up a dead page, and a few posts from people discussing the fact that you can't get it anymore. Oh well.

Honestly, my only interest in the CE comes from the in-game items, I don't really care about the tin or artwork or other stuff they put in it. So I guess I'll just be getting the Gamestop regular edition pre-ordered.

This is all in the US, by the way.

Gamestop ran out of DA CEs previously, so I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened with the ME2 CE as well. At least we're getting the Blood Dragon Armor for ME2 with the same code as in Dragon Age.

I've seen Chris Priestly post about problems in pre-ordering the CE in the Netherlands, but here in Belgium, everything seems fine, as I've got mine pre-ordered at the local gamestore. It lists Icisor Sniper Rifle and simply Collector Armor & Collector Weapon as items. Not sure what those last two are.

Thanks again for all the info, Archmage Silver! I have to admit that I did little poking around on online site, because I had always been accustomed to doing my Game shopping in a "real" store, but with no visit back home coming up anytime soon, I'm slowly learning which web sites carry the good stuff out here in Europe. So thanks a bunch! ^_^

And yeah, I'm keeping my Blood Armor code on my desk, but I have to say that Treminus armor is looking pretty intimidating (I'm ashamed to say that I'm not a big fan of the Blood Armor, I always get the feeling it gives my character a "tin man" look...)

The CE includes at least one unique armor and weapon, but I would wager that Sniper Rifle is also part of the Collector's Edition.

Pre-order program bonus items:

  • Terminus Assault Armor
  • M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon
  • Inferno Armor

Well when I went to my local Best Buy to get Dragon Age they were the only company that I did not have to preorder the CE from so hopefully they will have a few mass effect CE as they did with dragon age
