A mod for those who love S-M-R-T... I mean S-M-A-R-T gnomes!

    QUAYLE BG2 ReDone v.2
    By Lava Del'Vortel

I. INTRODUCTION:

This mod introduces Quayle from BG1 as a party joinable NPC. But the condition is ... Aerie's death.  A mini quest (in a small new area) is provided, where you decide who you prefer to travel with.  Some timed and scenery talks for both SoA and ToB, banters for SoA and ToB, and a few new items.  Quayle at a certain level will obtain a priest symbol.

II. INSTALLATION:

You need to unzip the mod and insert it into the BGII - SOA Game Folder. Start the Setup-Quayle.exe file and proceed with the instructions.

III. INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHARACTER:

These are Quayle's statistics.  I also want to state that, although Quayle's Wisdom is low, he is a good priest. He has some special items that will aid him in that respect.

Race: gnome
Alignment: chaotic neutral
Class: priest/illusionist

STR: 8
DEX: 15
CON: 11
INT: 17
WIS: 10
CHA: 6

Biography:
"Quayle talks for a good hour about his worship of Baravar Cloakshadow, how he is well on his way to mastering sorcery, and generally how incredibly smart he is compared to everyone else in the party.  He was apparently encouraged to strike out on his own as soon as he came of age because, as he claims, he was simply too gifted to remain in that stifling environment.  You get the feeling, however, that no one was terribly broken up over his leaving.  He says that he apprenticed in the arts of magic and the worship of Baravar under a gnome named Gifos, though it was not long before this teacher also sent him on his way.  Since then, Quayle has wandered the Sword Coast looking for people who were willing to accept his "wisdom and instruction."  It has likely been a long walk.
But you knew that already. The truth is that he didn't mention his time with the circus and Aerie when you first met. You guess he finds it embarassing: the fact that he was knocked out and left by the previous owner the Circus.  Since you last met, it would seem he's managed to find Aerie and the Circus, and even took control over it."

IV. THANKS:

I want to thank: Morgan, L'f, Marcin, Theorp, Zed Nocear, Albatros, Plasmocat, users (also Akolici Mroku) of BGiF - the forum where I grew up. I also thank CoB's forum for supporting me in modding.
Also, every player that will play this mod deserve a thank you.  Cheers!

Yay! It's here!

Crap! I see a typo! The 2nd to last paragraph should read "script" instead of scrip. Stupid spell-checker!

Anyway, I can't wait to see how he works out in my party. I've missed many of my BG1 "friends" and it's good to have one of them back again. Now I won't have to feel guilty turning down Aerie. It will just sort of "wok itself out." Innocently, of course! :)

Kill Aerie! Hihi! Kill! :P
I know it's not a big mod, but I really dislike Aerie. I made this thing for myself, but then I made some dialogues and released it in polish language. Then The translation was done and... and here it is. Maybe someone tired with Aerie will like to try this mod :)
Again, thx for your proofreading Ankhes :)

Congrats :D I remember seeing this mod in someone's WeiDU.log a while back :P

Anyway, would it be too spoilerish if ya tell us why the mod is nicknamed "Aerie-be-Gone"?? Do ya mean that once you have Quayle, Aerie can't be recruited?? A chance to ... ahem ... kill Aerie?? (for need of a better word) :P

Are Quayle and Aerie mutually exclusive??

Cheers,
Lol

The very first line under 'introduction':

"This mod introduces Quayle from BG1 as a joinable party NPC. But the condition is... Aerie's death."

It seems pretty clear, you kill her in order to get Quayle. As an evil player the choice is easy enough to justify, and even for neutral or good you can say it...er, was an ogre, albeit with a funny voice, but still an ogre. No problems.

Yup sadly the readme says the condition to have Quayle in party is Aerie's death. :(
I think it could be funny to have both of them in party, but it would mean massive work to make Quayle to interject in (almost) all of Aerie's friendship/romance banters, plus some banters between the two of them, and the like.
All of the above must be considered totally IMHO.

Yeah, it is sad if you want both in your party, and you are right, it would be a tremendous amount of work. However, Quayle's quest in SoA is avenging Aerie's death, so in that sense her death makes sense.

Hehehe  (I should reeeeeeaaaalllly take time to read :P)

But yeah ... I'm with Lava here :D DIE BUG-EYED POUTING ELF!!!

(Btw, IF ... in the future, you include the option to have Aerie join the party with Quayle through some resurrection or sommin :P [Quayle's the smertest cleric around non?? ;)] ... does it have to be absolutely necesary for Quayle to interject in whatever Aerie says?? :P Come on ... after her resurrection, he could be more like the parent that watches their child from the backlines instead of the always-intervening-in-other's-personal-lives geezer :D)

PS: Portrait looks BADAZZ btw :coolthumb:

Cheers,
Lol

thx!
Well, there is a "spoiler file". First you have to join Aerie. We don't kill Aerie by ourselves. Who would like to make a shirt dirty with her blood... It would be a waste of shirt!
But sirious now, you have to join Aerie and comlete the Kalah quest. In the end of a quest a new guy will appear :) So players of this mod, you will have to survive a minute or two with Aerie in the group :P
Gosh, I know it's not a big mod, but I really hope that someone will like it! :P
PS. Portrait was done by Plasmocat. I asked the artist for permision to use it looooooooong time ago :P

EDIT:
Forgot to mention. Simply Aerie speaks a lot like "It is a pity that uncle Quayle is not with us." etc... It means that some romance dialogues would need a changing, banters, interjections... It would be like re-writing Aerie...

Yup unfortunately having both Quayle and Aerie in party would mean a huge rewriting work, and even if probably funny I don't think it's the aim of this mod. Actually I like Aerie more than Quayle, but it sure is an interesting change RP wise. :)
All of the above must be considered totally IMHO.

Ok, just one last question :P Will installing this change the game such that Aerie always gets murdered?? Or can we voluntarily save Aerie and not take Quayle (even with the mod installed)??

Thanks,
Lol

Someone should tell Scipio about this mod. He would love it :).

When this mod is installed you may choose which one you will preffer. There will appear a riddle. If the answer is incorrect - Aerie dies. Still we can give the correct answer. Then everything will stay as in original game.

Scipio would like it? Well, that would be great. I should make "Aerie killers team". :P

I sent him a message to check it out, especially since (last I heard) he is supposedly doing the "new mod news" now instead of Ascension64. Hopefully, he will give this one a big thumbs-up :coolthumb:.

I am compelled to re-post a picture I made last year when Aerie was knocked out of the big NPC "death match" contest that Sammi Somara ran. Go on, Lava, gloat!

Let me not deny others the sadistic pleasure of murdering the best NPC in the history of everything. Aerie, my darling, unbelievable as it may seem... some people don't like you! Never mind, you'll always have me.

Or Minotaur if he gets his way.
