Due to some packaging differences, users of the Steam and gog Enhanced Edition games must use the modmerge tool before they can mod their games with anything that contains text (dialog.tlk).

Oi, i didn't know that!... sorry, it's been a while since i last played, so i wasn't aware of that. Thanks, i'll test it, and i'll report back here.

I don't quite get how it works -- i've downloaded it, and the steps in weidu say that it will do some stuff, but other than creating a CHITIN.KEY and a backup (.bak), i didn't note any difference.

Check the size of the game folders override folder ... or the data folder... one of them should be a bit bigger... like a 1Gb+ bigger.

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

If you can see a subfolder called "sod-dlc" with lots of BIF files in it then the modmerging process was successful. You can now safely install all your mods.

I don't own Siege of Dragonspear... is this an issue in the installation of Modmerge?

EDIT:

Ah, it seems to be working, now that i've reinstalled the game. Thanks a lot mates, and sorry for the excessive posting.

Yeah guys please be clear: Modmerge is ONLY required for those who have SoD from Steam or GOG. It should not be installed on BGEE or BG2EE games.

Actually that's incorrect !
It's required for games that have a DLC folder with an .zip file in there. And this is to FURTHER modify the game. It doesn't matter where it's from or what the F it's doing cheesing the innards of the game files.

See std, there's this nice little tool that people can use to lock a modded content to an independent chapter of the game... an adventure that has no reason to be part of the others as it has a start and end point is a good xeample. You just toss the .zip file to the folder and it works.
Now of course some poeple prefer everything to be under the same venture, and call themselves megamodders, fools or lunatics howling for the moons, but that's their fun.

On my installation of Baldur's Gate: EE (both with Seige of Dragonspear add-on installed and installed without the add-on), only pure Rangers can get the animal companion ability. Multiclass Ranger/ Cleric and no Druid class get the ability.

I tested the following cases:

Human Ranger (stalker kit) yes

Human Druid (no kit) no

Human Druid (Totemic Druid) no

Human Fighter (Berserker), dual to Druid no

Human Cleric (Helm), dual to Ranger yes

Elven Ranger (stalker kit) yes

Half-Elf Druid (Totemic Druid) no

Half-Elf multiclass Fighter Druid no

Half-Elf multiclass Ranger Cleric no

Otherwise, the mod works great, although it does throw off the balance of SCS significantly. I took a bear with my Stalker and "Buddy" was super tanky (except against poison).

Hey, thanks for the report.

I don't remember right off the bat but it might be possible that I.. well.. just totally forgot that multiclasses exist when I made that mod.

I'll look into it once I've got some time. :D

Aye, balancing has always been an issue. In earlier versions people complained that the companions died way to easily so I buffed them up with the last release. Maybe I overdid it a little.

Also, since it looks like you installed the mod via BWS; The "buddy" name is only the default option for BWS to allow an uninterrupted installation. If you don't mind the installation pausing before the mod you can chose to give your animal companion a custom name. Just thought I'd mention that. :)

Ok that was one part of the problem. i reinstalled the mod manually and now it works for Druids and dual class Fighter/ Druids. But it still doesn't work for multiclass Ranger/ Clerics or Fighter/ Druids.

Hm ya, it is definitely supposed to work for druids so that's good.

I just need to look up whether multi class characters need to be addressed separately in the script or if they are supposed to be included in checks that check for druid/rangers. If the former is the case then I just need to update the script, if it's the later then there is another problem going on in your install.

..and mod has been updated.

Turns out I'm indeed stupid and didn't account for multiclass characters at all.

Should be fixed now. :P

I've never used BWS before, but I decided to give it a try with an EET install.  I was looking through the logs and noticed the following warning:

[action list near line 106, column 27 of AnimalCompanions/files3/UBRPET.d] PARSE WARNING at line 106 column 1-14
Near Text: )
Too many arguments to [DestroySelf]. Recovering.
Clearing the IDS map.

Not sure how serious it is, but here is the .debug log:

Attached File  SETUP-ANIMALCOMPANIONS.DEBUG   64.2K   219 downloads

"Ok, I've just about had my FILL of riddle asking, quest assigning, insult throwing, pun hurling, hostage taking, iron mongering, smart-arsed fools, freaks, and felons that continually test my will, mettle, strength, intelligence, and most of all, patience! If you've got a straight answer ANYWHERE in that bent little head of yours, I want to hear it pretty damn quick or I'm going to take a large blunt object roughly the size of Elminster AND his hat, and stuff it lengthwise into a crevice of your being so seldom seen that even the denizens of the nine hells themselves wouldn't touch it with a twenty-foot rusty halberd! Have I MADE myself perfectly CLEAR?!"

Hey, thanks.

I'll look into it when I find time though to be honest WeiDU is still a bit arcane to me so that error message doesn't mean much to me.. :)

Hey, thanks.

I'll look into it when I find time though to be honest WeiDU is still a bit arcane to me so that error message doesn't mean much to me.. :)

It is this line at the very end of it

IF ~~ DO ~DestroySelf(5) ~ EXIT

which should be IF ~~ DO ~DestroySelf()~ EXIT

unless you want e.g. EscapeAreaDestroy(20)  for the effect that the creature does not just vanish into thin air.

PS - The compiled dialogue in game reads DestroySelf(), this is what the *recovering* message means, i.e. it is a minor warning since Weidu understands and repairs the case.
