Hi all.  I apologise in advance for how lame and basic this problem may sound.  However I am new to modding and to windows 8 which I have everything running through.

I installed SOA then TOB and then the patches for these and they work well as far as I can see (only started up a game didnt waste too much time trying to see if i run into any random glitches)

I then downloaded TDD, however I do not know where to use it.  If I run it from my desktop it tells me that it cannot find dialog.tlk file or whatever it is specifically called.  If I move the set up into the folder with all the baldurs gate files it tells me that i may not have unpacked the set up properly and may be trying to run it from an archive file - I removed the set up file from the folder though and have tried it in various places.  I moved the TDD folder with all the files into the same folder as the other baldurs files.

Is there a folder here that I need to create or move any of this into or try running the set up from?

I am sorry if this sounds redundantly lame - but I have tried searching various places for tutorials etc but have had no luck.  I dont really know what I am doing so I am reluctant to start editting, moving or deleting any files as I do not know what harm I am doing.

Help appreciated

First of all, on Windows 8(.1) if you use the C drive and you intent to modify the game*, you need to install the game to your user profile files, aka here:

C:\Users\<username>\Games\BGII - SoA\

The Games folder of course is optional, and the <username> is the name of the profile you use to log into the Windows.

This has to all to do with the fact that the Windows 8 has locked the user out, so they can't actually modify the files cause it doesn't have the proper rights, nor the admins privileges give them to you, ridiculous yes. This* also concerns the official patch, as this game is that old that it dares to overwrite files, instead of mirroring them from various folders to satisfy the Macrohard Wormdoors.

And then you just install the TDD to the above folder.

Ok.  I think this makes sense as windows 8 so far has been continually asking me for admin permission to do as much as breathe on a file...

There is only one username on the computer to sign in on, however if I go to C drive there are 4 folders, one is the public folder which is what I installed everything to.  I deliberately put it in there to avoid it going in program files as I remember that sometimes it used to create problems - I thought since I am on the administrator that it would have jurisdiction over all of the C drive 'users'.

So will it not work in 'public' folder?  SOA and TOB run ok from the public folder, but I am assuming that modification in there is unauthorised?  Will I have to uninstall and reinstall or can I move everything over to the main user folder?

I would use the <username> you log into. My Windows 7 has 5 folders there, one is named the <username>, the others are "All Users", "Default Users", "Public" and "Default". It's like a moron coded them there. So definitely, use none of those. My Windows 8 computer uses the Finnish language in the Operation System, so the folders are differently named, well it's likely actually named with English, but the Windows own Graphical User Interface translates then with Finnish words. That's so much %&¤# right there.
I hate what the Microsoft did to all this, but I can see the point why they did it, so I just complain cause I can, not cause I got a better way ... hehehehehheh. :shifty: :P

Yep makes sense.

I uninstalled and re installed under the user name of the account and put into its own folder called Baldurs Gate.  It looks like this:

This PC: Windows C: Users: Nick: Baldurs Gate

I brought the TDD set up and the TDD content folder into the Baldurs Gate file.

It still isnt working.  It is coming out with:

ERROR Setup-TDD.P2T Not found - make sure you have unpacked the archive properly and that you are not trying to run the file from an archive.

I dont know what I am missing here or if I have to move anything around or not

It's a .tp2, not .p2t(yeah, I understand you wrote that off hand from memory, but anyways...), the file is in the mod archive(TDDv1.14.rar), you have to extract it properly, so in the end there's the Setup-TDD.exe -file, the Setup-TDD.tp2 -file and the TDD -folder in teh game folder. And then run the .exe ...

Yes it was off the top of my head - as I couldnt copy and paste and it was late so I was rushing! :P - Sorry.

It seems to be more promising - it is just asking me to install a fix pack before installing which I am about to do.

I was also wondering if TDD already has a new XP cap alteration built into the mod?  Or would I need to get a different one?  If so are there any on here that are compatible with TDD and would I have to install them after TDD or before?

Thanks once again, I seem to be getting somewhere now.

I believe there is the XPcap remover in the mod, but you can always install the component from the BG2 Tweaks after the TDD. And yeah, the newest versions require this BG2 Fixpack. -no need to be sorry. I was laughing...
