Hi,

I started installing the recommended mod package for Enhanced Edition. However, after installing a few mods (I think when it just starts to install mods for BG 2), it stops and displays the following:

"Please start the game, choose the language you like, start and create a savegame."

I already did that for both games before attempting BWS. I read somewhere that creating a blank Baldur.ini in the savegame folder solves this. So I tried that too, created one for BG, BG2 already had one.

What am I missing?

Thanks for helping :)

Your BG2 doesn't have a Baldur.lua file... try to update the game to the latest version and then start it, it made during the start... in v2.3...

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

Sorry for digging this up, but because I can't get ANYTHING to run on original BG1/BG2 (see my Big World Textpack thread) I bought BG1/2 EE from GoG. However I'm facing the same problem and suspect it has something to do with either EE itself or maybe GoG version.

This EE/GoG version stores the lua file, save games and portrait in the C:\Users\something path instead of in the original game path. Could this be the reason BWS isn't finding the file? However I already tried copying these files to my game folder (D:\Games\Baldur's Gate 2 - Enhanced Edition) but it doesn't work either. I also changed the goglog.ini as to point to the game path instead of the user path, but it seems to happily ignore it.

I'm starting to understand some of the... let's call it "negative undercurrent"... when some people are talking about EE. Seems like quite a few things have changed, and none for the good of BWS. Not being able to run BGT (which is what I really want and why I decided to give EE a shot) without having SoDS being just one of them...

Is it correct or do I misunderstand you completely: You want to install BGT on BGEE and BG2EE? This is not possible at all. BGT only works for classic game.

To play EE games as one, you need to use EET instead of BGT.

I properly chose the Baldur's Gate II: EE/Enhanced Edition Trilogy option in BWS. Sorry for mixing up the names in first post.

Trying BWS BGT again...

Any ideas here? If I understand correctly this is a main component of BGT failing here, so there is no going forward.

Here's the list of mods I've installed... really, it's not even worth to be called a "mega mod". But if even this fails, I guess everyone else will have the same problem?? I don't want BWS to be dead :unsure:

I can't figure out what the hell is going on with this BWP Textpack crap.

After the extraction process and before starting the install, I searched for all files containing BWP_Textpack.installed, and there are only two:

D:\Spiele\BGII - SoA\BiG World Textpack.bat contains the lines:

SET INSTALL_MARKER=BWP_Textpack.installed

:: set absolute path for install marker file
SET INSTALL_MARKER=%~dp0\%INSTALL_MARKER%

IF NOT EXIST "%INSTALL_MARKER%" (
    type nul >"%INSTALL_MARKER%"
)

D:\Spiele\BGII - SoA\BiG World Installpack\source\initialize.bat contains the line:

%IFN% BWP_Textpack.installed CALL "%BWTP%.bat"

Now, that last one would probably cause the output

D:\Spiele\BGII - SoA>IF NOT EXIST BWP_Textpack.installed Call "BiG World Textpack.bat"

So, what does BiG World Textpack.bat do?

D:\Spiele\BGII - SoA\BiG World Textpack.bat

IF exist "BiG World Install.bat" (
    if "%BWIP%" == "" (
        echo.
        echo Please start the "BiG World Install.bat"
        echo.
        echo Bitte startet die "BiG World Install.bat"
        echo.
        echo Veuillez lancer le "BiG World Install.bat"
        echo.
        pause
        exit
    )
)

Funny, BiG World Install.bat already exists at this point, so the installations goes to hell at this point.

I'll try to delete this one before starting installation just for fun...

F-word me... deleting that file solved it :doh:

Some more tweak components required TobEx(?) but installation seems to be running now

Maybe for issues with BWP installs and BGT you can find some help in the BWP v17 thread here on the forum. Not sure myself as I stopped following discussions about old game by now.

I still have the "new" game ahead, but as I mentioned in another thread BWS and EE don't seem to get along either.

For now I'm just happy that the old game seems to be working. If I manage to play through I'm sure to give EE/EET a shot.
