Shouldn't item shadow in inventory be actually half-transparent?

tl/dr: is non-transparent solid black shadow items cast when they are picked in inventory screen a glitch or it was always like that? :)

Example below: what I mean is shouldn't 1 be half-transparent like 2?
Spoiler

I have just noticed that on all my PCs in BG items shadow, which is visible when the item is picked up from inventory slot, is solid black, not transparent. This is so even for vanilla items, not only modded. I have a vague recollection that back then 15 years ago the shadows were actually, you know, shadows, much like the shadow cast by character paperdoll - transparent. Sadly, I'm also 15 years away from hardware for which BG was created, so I have no way of checking if current solid black shadow was there from the beginning or is a defect introduced by the modern hardware. Remember that topic of 2008 about NVidia cards introducing this and that graphical bugs - what if non-transparent item shadow in the inventory is like these bugs? Or may be it was so from the beginning... but then again, if that was so from the beginning, why does icon creation discussions always emphasize two special colours for transparent and black, surely if shadow was not supposed to be half-transparent but a solid black there wouldn't been need for a special colour to cover that?

Ahh, apparently the EE games now use the i<itemname>.bam files that only have 1 frame, as previously the non-EE games had 2 frames in the same file, 1 which sorta featured a lifted and the shadow(which was non transparent), while the second was grounded icon(no shadow and shortened to fit into the inventory/attack icon).

Fun fact, I can't really tell if the equipped items feature the shadow... cause my 28" monitor is too small to show the shadow in a proper contrast ... on 3840x2160 res.

Yep, .bam files featured in the .itm headers offset 0x003a was selected for this role because they could feature more than 1 frame, and now they don't. Wonderful.

Jarno, thank you, do I get it right that items lifted with cursor casting non-transparent solid-black shadow (wherever shadow is provided by relevant frame of the bam of course) is intended behaviour in classic BG? Then why that constant motto of "place "shadow" colour to the second slot of the palette"?
