Hi Gwendolyne,

I may have found some kind of a lost treasure. Do you know the BG Non-Interactive-Demo from old pre-release-times?

In fact it's not just a video file, but a ripped Version of Infinity Engine. So there are a chitin.key and bif-files.

Using NearInfinity i found at least one nice helmet animation, that did not make it into the final game and a variant of the kobold, that is walking instead of jumping around.

Download:

So, i hope this is some kind of helpful for you. If not, let me at least thank you for your great work!

This beta is old news...

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.

I like some of the other artifacts:

  • I want Xan's line used in the main game!
  • The lightning graphic, although more basic than the in-game version, would be nice if attached to either the weather effect or another lightning type spell.
  • The lingering fade of sparklies from those certain spells is actually a very nice touch. Somebody use it, please!
  • Surely the music can be fitted in somewhere. Maybe just in BG1?
  • Is there's a lightning sword in the base game?? (The sound effect is cheesy, but the visual could work as a weapon effect.)
  • Is the kobolds' fleeing sound different than in-game?
  • OMG, we've found Edwin's long-lost fireball explosion sound!

Agreed on Xan's line and the sparkle spell VFX.

The music didn't sound like it would fit nicely in either game, though; its style is too different from the rest of the soundtrack in my opinion.

I can't recall any lightning swords in BG, but in BGII Celestial Fury certainly qualifies and even the SFX would be lore-appropriate on it. It would be rad to make use of it!

Personally I also really like the color palette on the ogres from the demo.
