Well, I think the main problem with the timer is that it's based on real time, not in-game time, when there's no reason for that. Unlike the other real-timed events (the lovetalks, mainly. There might be something else, too, but I can't remember anything at the moment), the pregnancy is something that should depend on the number of days that pass in the game, not the number of hours that pass in the real world.

I suppose that if they'd made the pregnancy last the appropriate time (which, according to the source material, should be two years for elves, but I suppose Avarial might be different), nobody would ever have seen it, and then their writing effort would have been wasted. And if they had left out the birth completely, there would probably have been dozens of gamers complaining that they'd wandered around for two years without anything happening. <_<

My main complaint with the Aerie romance, by the way, is that I think it forces both my character and Aerie into a kind of relationship that's not good for them. Even when I do play a responsible character who will stand by her and love her and all that I think she would be better off without him. I think that her non-romanced epilogue is the "happy" ending, but so far I haven't found anyone who agrees...

Heh, I've not gotten all the way through it, but is there an option to send her and the kid packing to Suldanessalar? I'd want both of them hiding, under a changed name, in a place as far away from myself and any Baal cultists as I could find until the whole thing was over with.

First : I agree that the baby should be left for the epilogue.

Second : This was supposed to be a new mod ideas discussion so here is mine:
Airie have said that Quaile could not regenerate her wings but he was not quite as powerful as the players are at the end of the story. Perhaps there could be a way to do it. (although this would change a lot of dialogues)

I think the "Wish" spell could do it. Of course, if the player has low wisdom and gets the words of the wish wrong, it could lead to an interesting quest (do you remember Malicant the chicken :P ?)
Then she saw his eyes, red and mad as hell. And in that moment she knew that he could kill anyone, no matter how strong. Madness, true madness could put a fist through a plank.

This would be a fair add-in to the Unfinished Business mod; the original Aerie plot offered you a chance to turn her into a bird and let her fly away, as life on the ground was so unbearable.

Personally I think it was a bad idea and best dropped (a "romantic" mercy killing as a solution to an emotional problem), but it would be very easy to put back in the game

yeah, i wonder what happens to all the npc's you don't take.
And its not safe to leave a newborn alone, especially in hell. Thats why i think asking the gnome whom he was named after to watch after him would be a good idea.

Since it seems that most of as agree on that, could someone please write a patch that would set it right ? (I am sorry, I tried to learn to write mods but it just didn't work for me).

If you go for godhood, you can offer her wings at the end, can't you? I'm not sure what the conditions must be, but I'm fairly sure she accepts if you don't demand her worship.

Now, on to the main thread:

An Aerie mod involving Wing Elf Inquisitors (not sure how this would be animated) trying to kill Aerie for worshiping Balivear (spelling?) and being wingless would be interesting. The player character's choice of standing by Aerie in the face of powerful holy flying warriors would be a sign of affection instead of just handing her over.

Perhaps the animation could just be an edit of the Armor of Faith spell animation set to loop continuously on the wearer of an undroppable item (Like the cloak of mirroring)? And to get around the actual flying, the encounter could be made indoors.

Would not that cotradict her ToB epilogue though, where she and Charname are accepted into the Avariel Society quite gladly and w/o a show of hostility?

Not necessarily. The Inquisitors could be A) In power for only a short time, B) Just a small wandering group of fanatics, or C) From a completely different area of Avariel civilization. There's no shortage of loopholes.

I'm liking those ideas, and how much feedback this mod is getting. Maybe this could be developed after all, I was starting to lose hope for a while there <_< ... if anyone knows how to code this stuff i think this could be a pretty good mod.

i liked the idea of adding some quest and a few more lovetalks cause in almost every lovetalk she seems suicidal :(

Heya,

I think the "Wish" spell could do it. Of course, if the player has low wisdom and gets the words of the wish wrong, it could lead to an interesting quest  (do you remember Malicant the chicken :P ?)

This would be a fair add-in to the Unfinished Business mod; the original Aerie plot offered you a chance to turn her into a bird and let her fly away, as life on the ground was so unbearable.

Why bother with that? Aerie has the ability to heal herself at some point. :) So can Jaheira (not sure if Viconia actually gets this spell). Of course, any caster who can cast Wish can simulate Regenerate!

Regenerate (Necromancy)
Reversible

Sphere: Necromantic
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M
Duration: Permanent
Casting Time: 3 rounds
Area of Effect: Creature touched
Saving Throw: None

When a regenerate spell is cast, body members (fingers, toes, hands, feet, arms, legs, tails, or even the heads of multi-headed creatures), bones, and organs grow back. The process of regeneration requires but one round if the severed member(s) is (are) present and touching the creature, 2d4 turns otherwise. The creature must be living to recieve the benefits of this spell. If the severed member is not present, or if the injury is older than one day per caster level, the recipient must roll a successful system shock check to survive the spell.

The reverse, wither, causes the member or organ touched to shrivel and cease functioning in one round, dropping off into dust in 2d4 turns. Creatures must be touched for the harmful effect to occur.

The material components of this spell are a prayer device and holy water (or unholy water for the reverse).

For those wondering, yes... Wings are limbs, they are concidered members. They would be restored by this spell.

Well, this is an example of a wish cast by someone with sufficient wisdom.

I never liked this option pretty much for the same reason. However, tweaking this idea may have some merit. Why not use a spell or an item to grant her the ability to shape change into an eagle, hawk, or whatever, at will? She'd be able to experience flight again while still being able to remain a member of the group and/or your love interest. Not to mention such an ability could prove highly useful in all sorts of situations.

As I mentioned elsewhere and as Zandilar posted, in game your character really should be able to fully restore Aerie. A wish spell or a regenerate spell could do it, or a quest. The animations exist to give her wings with a looping animation using an unremoveable item in the cloak slot, or it could be done with a special ability. Even aying she is not imediately able to resume flying is no problem; her flight muscles may have atrophied, and she needs time to re-learn how to use them.

However, all of this would require a lot of work, and many of those who like Aerie as a character like her because she lost her wings and survived, eventually finding love. They might not want to put the work into building and writing dialog for a happy Aerie.

But, it can be done.
