Is it possible to make a magically created weapon like the flame blade to count as a longsword, so fighter/clerics could weild it with grand mastery if they had the proficiencies. But if the wielder had no skill with the longsword, they would suffer no penalties.

Oh and also, the spell create magic weapon, makes a +3 weapon, with it's type chosen by the caster, but it's not glued to the casters hands. Is it possible to modify Flame Blade, so the caster could choose from a selection of bladed weapons AND have them stick to her hands?

EDIT: One more thing... Can spells like flameblade create the weapon in the caster's off-hand?

*day dreaming* Hmm, it'd be fun to have a fighter/druid dual wielding twin flameBlades(Scimitars). Or a high level Fighter/mage wielding the Black Blade of Distruction and the Phantom Blade...

So to achieve that the spells would have to act like the create magic weapon spell, which I don't really like, because the mage could pass them to pure fighters and they wouldn't be dispellable.

Unless...

I've seen lots of spells (like the improved shapeshifting) where you have an icon, and when clicked opens into more icons. Is it possible to do that again?
For example: a Fighter/druid 9/12 (Dual-Classed) has grand mastery in scimitars. He's off wondering the forests when he comes across a troll, realising his regular scimitar is no match for such a creature, he begins to cast 'FlameBlade'. After selecting flameblade, 2 options appear (Like after casting Spell Immunity, but less options). He chooses to summon the blade in his main hand. The next set of options are to choose what kind of blade to summon. His choices are 1)Bastard Sword 2)Long Sword 3)Short Sword 4)Katana 5)Scimitar 6) Dagger 7) Sword-handed Sword. He selects Scimitar.

Could it be done?

Yes, Black Blade of Disaster does just that. Take a look at the BLAKBLAD.itm file.

Kinda... there's a number of tradeoffs involved with any scheme. For the selection of weapons, you can use an initial spell that creates a menu, similar to Spell Immunity with a custom 2da file. This brings up a choice of spells (one for each option of weapon) for the caster to create.

I would recommend leaving the weapon glued to the caster's hand. Creatures have an invisible 'magical weapon' slot that handles magically-created weapons and overrides anything in the character's regular weapon slots. (This is also why if a magically created weapon is two-handed a character with a shield or off-hand weapon equipped will get a CTD. You'll notice the game has no magically created 2H weapons ;) ) The drawbacks to creating a weapon in inventory is that there is no way to prevent the caster from handing it to another character and letting them use it. You can limit this with item restrictions, but you'll never be able to eliminate it entirely, especially in ToB thanks to UAI.

Not possible AFAIK.

Yes, use a custom 2da and just use Spell Immunity as a model. However, any weapon magically created and put into the magical weapon slot will be destroyed by Dispel Magic (hardcoded effect) though Littiz apparently found a way around it with the Shapesifter fix in Refinements. I wouldn't recommend any two-handed weapons, for the reasons mentioned parenthetically above.

So... the only way to wield magically created weapons in the off hand would be to actually create it as an item? :(

Oh well, I'll just go edit all the magical weapon spells to act like BBoD then.

IIRC there's a bug with magical weapons and other items in the off-hand isn't there? I remember using energy blades and in the off-hand the celestial fury. The katana would get an attack every round AT RANGE.

EDIT: Checked the BBoD, I didn't mean for the weapon to give the wielder grand mastery. I wanted the weapon to use grandmastery, while not applying a penalty if the wielder didn't have any proficiency with the weapon.

EDIT: This magic weapon slot is dispellable? Does it store the level of the caster when it's filled with the magical weapon then? Just a thought, but the inquisitor's Dispel acts at twice his level, would it be possible to create a magical weapon that would count as being cast as say 100 times the caster's level, to make it near un-dispellable?

Yep, and that has the additional problems of being able to give it to another character.

Yeah, another hardcoded bug.

The problem with the proficiency opcode is that it can only set a proficiency level, not simply add stars. There's really no way to accomplish what you're looking for here. Setting it any lower than five stars would potentially hurt a fighter-type, but it can be overpowering for a low-level spell.

A weapon in the magical slot is dispelled 100% of the time, so even low-level mages can destroy it. AFAIK you can not set a casting level for it.

Magic weapons dispelled 100% of the time!? ... that's a pretty bad bug :/
