Hi all,

Here's a request. I am currently knee deep in creating a new NPC. Coming along Slowly (with lots of help from folks around here) but scripting is - I am sorry to say - completely beyond me.

So, I thought I would ask (beg, plead, grovel) - is there someone out there who can write a (simple, I think) script for me.

I think it's a script I am wanting...

I want to append (?) some of the dialog to a store keeper (Would perfer trademeet, but Prominade would be okay) regarding a rumor of a magic sword in Firkag's (Sp) dungeon.

Then a sequence in the dungeon someplace involving a new sword (as yet to be made for my NPC...I am working on it) that just happens to have one or two umberhulks running around in it. (I have a short dialog between the PC and NPC regarding this)

Any assistance would be warmly received.

Do you mean as a rumour, or as a dialogue? The former requires editing of a .2da, the name of which presently escapes me. In any case, both are easy :). Be more specific and then it is easier to show you what needs doing.

To add new temple/tavern rumors (the rumors you get when you buy a drink or donate money) you just need to edit a dialog file too. The taverns and temples in each town share the same rumor file. Athkatla's is RUMORA (they're all named something similar)

I'm not sure, whichever is easiest I guess.

I just want something to point the group in the direction of Firkag's dungeon where in a room they battle an umberhulk or two to retreive October's magic sword.

(Which I am still tearing my hair out making...Which is one of the reasons I am asking for scripting help. Between the new NPC and her weapon, I am in Waaay over my head.)

As far as who, it doesn't really matter. Was hoping for something from Trademeet, something to the effect of: a bunch of adventurers returned (those that survived the trip) from Firkag's dungeon with tales of an odd dull looking sword with a blue crystal handle.

The PROBLEM (I would think) would be to edit/(mod?) a room somewhere IN the dungeon to contain the sword and have two or three umberhulks lurking around ready to attack (My girl HATES UmberHulks and I have some dialog done up already) in order to reach it. As I understand it, editing in these things is HARD.

Also, I am still trying to figure out how to make her special sword Using IEEP Item maker...and any help, advise one could give me would be welcome.

What I am trying to do for October's sword is:

"Sword Of The Soft"

+1 damage -
+ 20%chance Horrify (unless save)
+ 50% chance polimorph target into Grey ooze (No Save)
+ 25% chance polimorph target into green slime (No save)

Still working on it along with the NPC herself.

On the OTHER hand I am getting REALLY good at banters and dialogs! :)

Help? Advice? Words of encouragement?

I like the portrait. I think the sword may be too powerful, unless the polymorph just turns them into a slime with no penalties, or unless the sword is REALLY difficult to get. And what is so difficult about editing an area to put the umbers in there?

Friend, as one who knows just a little less about modding than I know about computers (And did I mention I once tried to get rid of a computer virus by deleting .DLL files at random?) I thought that editing a room to add a sword and umberhulks and dialog was VERY difficult.

I thought one had to do a lot of scripting plus make up the new area and everything.

Of course, I may be wrong, I don't know much yet though I am learning. :)

The sword... Well, it might be a little overpowered, I could stand to lose the +1 thing I guess, but the horrify is for the Demoralizing aspect of the situation on the characters getting whacked (Imagine, even if you survive the experience, you're a slime forever) and I like the idea of polimorph.

Still, yes, it MIGHT be a little strong. How can I tone it back without ruining the effect?

As for the sword, I also think it is a little overpowered, but not because of the effects, but because of the percentages:
20% + 50% + 25% = 95% wich means, only 5 hits out of 100 would NOT execute an effect. Most of the weapons I can remeber from the top of my head only have an overall chance of around 20% - 30%. Tune them down a bit abd the sword looks okay (at least in my opinion). Maybe make the polymorphs temporary or dispellable, and the percentages like 10%, 5% and 5%, but it is only an suggestion.

As far as the changing of maps and adding creatures goes, it is generally easy, if you know how to. Basically it is adding a block to an existing area-script, where the creatures are created, when certain requirements are met, for example if your NPC is in the party. If you want to completly ADD a new room (for example a new exit, or a new side-room) that was NOT there before, it is a lot more work, so I suggest, you just add a group of Umberhulks (2 seems a little too few) to an already existing spot on the map.

that's what i meant when i said it was overpowered. I also forgot that it was only plus one. Hmm... i'm not really having success on my mod right now, getting too distracted, and Reapper99 was saying he would look at it either after the weekend or over the weekend. Well, i could probably look at it right now if you want. Seriously, i'm totally bored and need to do something that doesn't involve installing the whole game. But for the areas, i would have to, but i have to do that anyways, so feel free to pm either one of us. or both, see which one you like best i guess.

Maybe I will tone the sword down a littel, I just get so tired of seeing "Weapon has no effect" "Target resistant to magic" everytime something is hit.

I figure just take an existing room, add umberhulks, add the sword (once it is made) and add the dialog, let the fight begin...after fight dialog where tobi gets her sword back...and maybe one other option, I am not sure.

Anyway, thanx for the help and advice. I am SO new to this that (even with NPC help from Shed and SConrad and others) I am a little over my head. Scripting a new encounter...I am lost. :rolleyes:

The first message appears because your weapon has too little +dmg for the monster because it is either naturally immune or has casted "Protection from magical weapons" or the likes. It has nothing to do with the percentages of certain effects to activate.
The second appears because the monster has a natural "Magic resistance" which can be lowered using the spell "Lower Magic resistance", but has nothing to do with the ability to save from an effect. Even if the monster can't save from the effect it will most likely NOT affect it because of the resistance.

I hope I cleared it up a little.
