I recently installed the big picture, and I noticed that I could start new games with no trouble, but if I tried to save and come back later, loading the saved game would result in the screen being black. By hitting the space bar to pause I could bring up the bar that allows you to control your characters, but the part of the screen where the game should be remained black. Has anyone run into this or does anyone know what causes this.

Hey i had the same problem not but few weeks before....it was when i wanted to play big picture for the first time....
As far as i can remember i had messed up my install and that was one of the side-effects....
Try reinstalling everything from the beginning but CORRECTLY...when i say this i mean correct installation of tortured souls, changing read only files and lastly copying the TDD backup override back to your override folder when the time is right....i believe u know what i mean...these are few of the steps when installing bp (with the big mods)....Also be careful to install from there after, ONLY compatible mods...one mistake and u r doomed....
hope ive been helpful...

Huh, I'll give it a try, thanks. It can't get any worse after all. I could have sworn I did everything right, but I don't have any better ideas, and nothing but time, so it's worth a shot.

Interesting. Reinstalling without any optional components solved the problem. The interesting part is that the menus have changed slightly. Background pictures, menu text, and so on. Well, whatever, it works.

Hmm, another problem. The new kits are broken, they have zero selectable alignments.

Sounds like you're glitching some step of the installation. Either re-read and confirm you're doing it according to the instructions or post EXACTLY what you're doing step by step and we'll try and point out the glitch.

Hmm, I may have the problem with the latest install. I think some of the files ended up in \Black Isle\BGII-SOA instead of \Black Isle\BGII - SOA. Still not sure what was up the first time. Well, here I go again.

Hmm, well, three clean complete reinstalls later, it's working. Go figure. Thanks for your help, all.

okey dokey...glad u managed to get it right.... :))

PS : if u want optional components, keep a backup of your override, dialogue.tlk and chitin.key (all are in main bgII folder), try some optional mods and if u have a problem uninstall them (if its possible) or use your backup....it worked fine with me....dont use improved battles or tactics mods...thats what i did at the beginning and had same problem as you...
