This question will probably receive a "duh" answer, but I did use the search, and couldn't find what I was looking for, so I will post this.

How do I access the sound files that come with BG2, they show as .wav files, but I can't play them, can someone tell me how I can?

What tool you using?

how come you always look so damn cool in every photo I see you in?!?

Speaking of modding, I listened to IER 3 yesterday, so you can have another quote for your signature: how come you sound so damn cool, as well as look it? It's unfair. Seriously.

Still a cyberjock, still hacking the matrix, still unsure of what that means.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, because I don't deal with sounds much, but I'm trying to open them with NearInfinity, and it tells me acm2wav.exe not found.

If no one tells you a direct link try typing acm2wav into google.
I'm sure it will bring up some link, something about teamx.ru.

If you want to play wavc (compressed wav in IE games) or acm files, then probably you will like gap (game audio player), also type it in google.

Besides NI, DLTCEP can also play/convert wav files, but it is a bit difficult to handle.

I am looking for help on finding a particular sound file. I want Boo's squeak! Does anyone know what that is? I have found some files of Minsc's that contain the squeak, but Minsc also talks! I want just the squeak! I know that such a sound file must exist because you can click Boo in Minsc's inventory, and Boo squeaks.

How can I find the name of the squeak file? Or, if you know it, please tell me!

Thanks!
Sillara

GAM48. I found it out by searching for string 10218: "Boo scuttles away as you try to grab him, and Minsc stops any further attempt to steal the animal with a harsh glare." I searched for "scuttle" in DLCTEP. Easy :).

The tlk entries referenced by the strref contain sound references as you may already know.
GAM48 is a wav[c] file stored in a bif, referenced by strref 10218 (didn't check) which is hardcoded in the engine.
You can easily find what sound reference is associated with an strref by starting a tlk editor (any editor) and going to strref #10218.
In dltcep you can instantly play the sound associated with the tlk entry.

thanks avenger! that helped. we isolated the *.wav file, renamed it, put it in our new NPCs audio folder, and associated the sound with a certain banter line. all works great. :D
