can u help me, i'm not very good with p.c.'s just tried to install BP/BGT/Nej ,3 times, and got the same problem each time. Its probably really simple, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong.I followed all the downloading and folder-setup instructions to the letter,
THe installation goes perfectly for 90% of the set up ,then when it gets to the "Enter destination for BG1" , and I'm supposed to type C:\baldur (to the folder I created (as per instructions), I type C:\baldur, and press CTRL+Z and then enter.
Text starts coming up with all these advance options, which I don't understand a word of , like out x and choose in-out weidu options. This isn't mentioned in the instructions, and it just keeps repeating this message whenever I try to to enter the C:\baldur thing. What is supposed to happen when the C:\baldur is entered correctly ?
Have I entered it wrong? I held down the 'ctrl' and the 'z', and then hit the enter key . (i even tried the num-pad enter, and the return key , on seperate attempts). The installation doesn't continue, it just keeps giving me these lists of Weidu in+out options, which is all Greek to me.
Also, seperate point, I have got patch 114 , downloaded ,but I didn't install it. Is this not compatible with BP/bgt/nej....... I didn't install it ,just in case.
I've been a *h u g e* fan of the bg series, and Iwd /pst etc.etc. since they came out,re-played them lots+lots of times &I really wanted to try bp/bgt/nej ,but my actual understanding of codes/programming is pretty much zero...... help!

CTRL-Z is just like using the Shift key with a letter. So it sounds like you did that right. By the way, is the BG1 game actually in the C:\Baldur directory? If not, that is why nothing works. The screen will show all that text, it is copying the files over to SOA so they can be used in the game. When it is finished, you should get a little program pop up on the screen that is looking for the BGMAIN.EXE file. This is the utility that changes the starting XP number.

No, patch 114 is not compatible, don't use it.

Yep, I've got BG1 patched and in C\, renamed 'baldur'.

The text that comes up when I enter C:\baldur is not like the scrolling file-copying text that rolls during the whole installation, it is one single page of text that pops up instantly when I hit the enter key, and says "press enter for more options" and lots of numbered options for commands I don't understand. It prompts me to choose one, but then says error and lists them all again .
It never seems to do any of the file-copying to SOA after that, or show any pop-up for main.exe, it just jams on this one weidu options list. I don't understand the options, so just closed it down, and then I just assume the installation misses the bg1 folder.

Where can I check to see if the BG1 game has actually been put in the SOA, is there a folder there I can check?

No, you have another problem. That screen is Weidu showing you all the commands you can use. The BGT install should be running everything correctly but it sounds like something is wrong. Are you using the AutoInstall for BGT-NEJ-BP? Your install is acting like you are doing a manual install (and a bad one at that).

I think it is WeiDu trying to update it's self. Make sure all WeiDu programs are updated *before* trying to install.

Are you using the AutoInstall for BGT-NEJ-BP? Your install is acting like you are doing a manual install (and a bad one at that).

I have just read the shadowtech guide, for the 1st time. I have been going on the main "how to install this" guide thats pinned on this board, but I have just noticed that the shadowtech version mentions Win98. I have win98, and I haven't entered the 'fix' as it was not mentioned in the other install guide.

Do you think this could be the problem? I am going for a heroic 4th attempt to install BPBGTNEJ today, with the win98 fix this time. Hopefully it should work.

As for the questions you made, I am just following the set-up guide, and running the bgt-bp-nej program from the main bg2 SOA directory, I haven't run the autoinstall specifically, but I think its part of the main installer.

I'll try again with the win98 fix,and see how it goes :)

How do I update them ? Basically I've followed the "install guide" to the letter, and it doesn't mention updating weidu files......But I've downloaded all the latest module versions & patches, and havethem layed out in the bg2soa directory as instructed.

As I mentioned in my last post, I've just noticed that the older guide mentions win98, and I have to use a fix for this. Am going to try it today & see what happens <_<

to update weidu, run one of the weidu mods (it doesnt matter which one - anything with the name 'Setup-x.exe'). it should go through a process of checking that it and every other weidu mod is updated - to version 162 or 163, depending upon the most recent mod you have. once it has done this, exit/quit the mod installer (ie, dont install the mod).

you can check that all of yr weidu .exe's are updated by checking they all have the same file size (281Kb for v163). (ie, all the applications of the form 'Setup-x.exe' should be the same size, on or just smaller than 281Kb). if one or more of them *arent* the same size as all the other ones, then you can manually update weidu yrself. (older versions of weidu arent able to auto-update themselves, so you have to do it for them). to manually update weidu, copy and paste a 'Setup-x.exe' that *is* updated and then rename it to with the older .exe's name. so if you have, say

Setup-BPSeries.exe as 281Kb, and
Setup-NEJ.exe as (say) 254Kb, then

i: delete or move Setup-NEJ.exe, ii: copy and paste Setup-BPSeries.exe into the same directory (on my machine it would be thus named 'Copy of Setup-BPSeries.exe') and rename this copy 'Setup-NEJ.exe'. voila: a manually updated weidu.

and yeah, the Win98 instruction is important, but frequently hidden. good luck - hopefully it'll all work this time

Thanks for the weidu tips, seanas :) will check them today when I do the BgtBPnej thing.

I was just reading the shadowtech guide again, and I saw "Don’t forget to add debug and cheat lines to the baldur.ini files". What debug/cheat lines do you mean? I realize , B4 I even ask this, that its probably an incredibly dumb question. But I know v.little about the inside of this game, I've always just put the disk in,added a patch or too,and played the game. Where are the baldur.ini files?

I'm starting a 1 year computer course in November,so hopefuly this time next year I will know what all these words & numberz actually mean!

Okay, the Win98 fix did the trick, and the baldur1 directory opened fine.

However, it seems that I don't have enough disk space for the full installation (it got 99% of it installed, then it said"no more space on C").

I had figured I could just about manage it on my PC. I am getting a bigger PC soon anyway, with a lot more memory, so I will try the installationagain on that machine.

Does anybody know exactly how much memory I need to install and run BPBGT-nej successfully and with a decent amount of speed?

you need about 7 or 8Gb, including swap file, to run BP-BGT-NEJ smoothly however, you need 10Gb or more space to install it. if you do a manual install you bring this down a little by deleting installer .exes after they've done their installing (ie: install soubar; delete teh soubar .exes, copy the tdd .exes, install tdd, delete tdd .exes, etc).

lack of space on my (aging) laptop HDD is the reason i play BP-NEj, not BP-BGT-NEJ :( .
