Is there anywhere to get a walkthrough install of BGT only? Like shadowtech's awesome walkthrough of BGT+BP only just for BGT? Here is what I am doing and maybe someone can tell me what I am doing wrong.

1) Install BG1 to the filepath "C:/baldur" using custom install, checkmarking all the files. (the 5 disc version)

2) Install TOSC

3) Install BG1 patch

4) Install BG2

5) Install TOB

6) Install BG2/TOB patch

7) unzip and run BGT_mk3_112

8) when prompted type C:/baldur, control-z, and hit enter, watch the stuff scroll for a long time

9) When the XPPatcher runs set xp to 100

10) move the override, music, and multiplayer save files from the BGT folder to the BGTOB root folder

And presto-chango, abracazam  :edwin: it should work right? Unfortunately for me it doesn't, I always crash as soon as I see my character outside the inn at Candlekeep.

Any suggestions? Pretty please?

What is with the last step? Step 9 was the last correct one. Afterward, you should copy over the patches, i.e. MK113, Lost Files and Snares.

Oh ok. i got some bad info from a friend then. Let me try that, and will update with results.

BTW, is that true even if I only want BGT, not BGT-BP-NEJ? Or should I be copying over patch_114 from the index, rather than MK113, lost files, and snares?

EDIT:

Ok I tried it your way and got no option for Baldur's Gate. Then I applied the 114 patch, and got the option to start up Baldur's Gate, but I instead wound up in the BG2 tutorial. After finishing the tutorial I wound up locked in the BG2 cage with no way out.

This happened to me before and its why I was told to move the BGT overide folder, etc. into the BGTOB folder. But that option is the one that always gives me the crash at the inn.

Patch 114 is only compatible with BGT, not with any version of BP. If you plan to use BP, you have to use the three patches. I would assume that patch 114 has those three merged into it but I don't know. So for a BGT only install, add patch 114.

There was never any information about copying back the override and music directories. That sounds like a step in the manual install of BP after installing TDD. Music wouldn't need to be copied back over anyway.

Ok, well as I said when I copy patch114 over, I end up in the tutorial, and then in the locked Bg2 cage. Anyone ever had this issue?

I don't plan on using BP. It takes up too much memory for my piddly little hard drive.

Baldur's Gate Trilogy

Baldur's Gate Trilogy is a mod created by Bardez that incorporates the original Baldur's Gate (plus the expansion Tales of the Sword Coast) into Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. It includes a world map by HardenCoonor, the Baldurdash 1.12 fixpack (ToB version) from Kevin Dorner, and a few of Bardez's personal additions to the game. As this game incorporates files from Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast, you must own these two games to use this mod. You do not have permission to use this if you don't have them. Baldur's Gate II and the Throne of Bhaal expansion are required for installation, so you need to own all four products. This is the Mark III distribution and is inclusive of all patches through 1.12b.

Installation

Baldur's Gate Trilogy must be installed on an unmodded Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal installation with the latest patch. You do not need to install the Baldurdash ToB 1.12 fixpack, as it is already included in the BGT package. BGT Installation requires a recommended or full install of Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast.

==========================================================================================
My note
First Install FULL versions of the Games:
(1) Install BGI and TOTSC add-on to C:\baldur, NOT the default directory but to C:\baldur
as install didn't work for me when I installed to default directory and moved it to
C:\baldur
(Custom Installs: Select all checkboxes). Apply patch version 5512.
NOTE: I have "The original Saga" 3 CD set". If you are using the 5 CD set + TOTSC, get
the appropriate patch.
(1-A) RUN BGI and setup configuration & at least start a game once quickly

(2) Install BGII and TOB and the official-TOB Patch 26498
(2-A) RUN BII and setup configuration & at least start a game once quickly
(2-B) When it's all done, you'll need to:
open your BGII \ baldur.ini file
Under [GAME OPTIONS]: Enter the following line's this is
case sensitive. So if you like copy & paste.
Debug Mode=1
Cheats=1
Force Dialog Pause=1
==========================================================================================

Extract the BGT_mk3_112.exe file into your Baldur's Gate II folder. Once extraction is complete, ================================================================================================
My note
Open up bgt_setup.bat with any text editor (I used notepad) any text editor will due.
find the line.
FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN (TEMP$$$$.$$$) DO SET BG1PATH=%%v
And Change it to: SET BG1PATH=C:\baldur
and save it .

=============================================

double-click bgt_setup.bat. The install process is completed in four stages:

* Extraction of files from your Baldur's Gate installation
* Unpacking TIZ files into TIS
* Creation of BIF files and updating chitin.key
* Deletion of temporary files used for the install

Starting A New Game

Before you begin a new game, you need to adjust your starting experience. Using the included xpPatcher.exe program located in your BG2 folder, adjust the starting experience to 100. You only need to do this once.
====================================================================================
My note
get lost_files.zip & patch_snares.zip out of the BP-BGT dir. And install them.
Then install patch 114
=====================================================================================

To start a new > Baldur's Gate game,< start Shadows of Amn, go tospellholdstudios.net new game, then the Baldur's Gate button. The New Game button will start a >>>>> Shadows of Amn game<<<<<.>>> Once started,<<< you can load either BG1 or BG2 games normally. To start a new BG1 multi-player game, use the included multi-player savegame.

Known Incompatibilities

BGT relies on overwriting the dialog.tlk file of your BG2 game, making it incompatible with other mods that do the same thing such as Darkest Day, Shadows Over Soubar, and Tortured Souls. In addition, because BGT has a filled music table, it may also conflict with WeiDU mods which add music, such as Chloe or the Kiara-Zaiya mods. For more information on compatibility, check the BGT forum at TeamBG.

Troubleshooting

The best source for information is the BGT forum. Before posting regarding a bug, make sure that you have the latest patch installed. (Note that some patches require a new game for changes to take effect.) Please search the forum to ensure that your bug has not been previously reported. Be sure to include which distribution package you installed from as well.

Multiple BG2 Installs

You may consider using a separate BG2 install for BGT. Here's how to set up multiple BG2 installs:

* Install Shadows of Amn, Throne of Bhaal, and the latest patch
* Optional: Install the latest Baldurdash fixpack*
* Optional: Set your preferences, configuration, and baldur.ini tweaks*
* Copy the entire BG2 folder except for the CD2, CD3, etc. subfolders
* In the new BG2 folder, open the baldur.ini file. In the [Alias] section, alter the HD0= line to point at the new path. The CD1=, CD2= etc lines should still point at your original BG2 install
* Play the secondary installation using the BGMain.exe program, not baldur.exe. The configuration program can be accessed via BGconfig.exe.

--The optional steps can be performed on each individual install after you copy the BG2 folder; they are listed here to save time

The drawback to this arrangement is that only the original install is referenced in the Windows registry, so any program that relies on the registry will only recognize the original install. For example, the default start menu shortcuts, CD autorun, and some third-party applications such as Shadowkeeper will only "see" the original install.

Credits

This mod was made by Bardez. Additional credit goes to HardenCoonor for the world map and Kevin Dorner for the Baldurdash 1.12 fixpack. WeiDU by Wes Weimer and Tisunpack by Per Olofsson are both used during setup. The Mark III distribution and readme was put together by Cam Camagna.

I finally got my mark3 loaded an running.

I read alot of people having the same trouble as I was with the mark3.
The bat file is the right format. It is supposed to set your bg1path by the following line. The problem for me was the bgt_setup.bat

FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN (TEMP$$$$.$$$) DO SET BG1PATH=%%v

It wouldn't install propperly. I kept on reading the forums and when DesertRanger posted his problem for win98. I didn't think that would be the problem with win.me. I tried it and now it is installed. so far no trouble The sollution was.

Open up bgt_setup.bat with any text editor (I used notepad) any text editor will due.
open the bgt_setup.bat with wordpad (or another ascii-editor) (shift-rightclick the batch and open with...) and change above line to: find the line.

FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN (TEMP$$$$.$$$) DO SET BG1PATH=%%v
Change it to: SET BG1PATH=enteryourbg1path. use the dos short cut to the bg1path. example: I use the default path. so the line states.

SET BG1PATH=C:\progra~1\blacki~1\baldur~1

I'm in cloakwood now heading over to flood the mine. I havn't had no trouble so far. with anyting

You will get alot of error messages invalid switch. it should still be okay.

hope this helps. Remember to always read the posts and you should find the help you need.

PS i hope this help's you. have a nice day and good lock. :P

Hi, thank you all so much for your replies. I followed your instructions word for word and still start up in the tutorial. I don't see any games to load either.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT: I've done some searching on the forum, and I seem to be having the exacty same problem as the fellow in this thread.

unfortunately he never seemed to resolve his problem, but maybe it will give all you geniuses a starting off point.

One trick not listed is to start a session in each game (BG1 and SOA) before trying to build out BGT. For some reason, just going through the initial loads and building out a character seems to setup the INI files the way they are needed for the BGT or BGT-BP build. Maybe Hlid can explain why you do this, but it is something that may help your problem.

Ok trying that. also, what did you mean on the other thread when you said

Now you can go through the install process. By the way, are you using the automated process or manual? Did you remember to make a directory called TS-Install? This is needed. Another trick is to run one Weidu mod (any of them) and tell it to quit. This will update all the other Setup-****.EXE files in the SOA directory. Otherwise, your install gets hosed later on.

Could you explain the above? I am not too technically proficient and dont know anything about Weidu. Thank you for your help again.

Double-click on any of the Setup-mod.exe files, i.e. Setup-EaseofUse.exe or whatever. All of the setup executables are just renamed Weidu.exe files. By running one of them, it will check all the others and make sure they are all running the current version of Weidu. If you do not do this, the setup that you run may get updated by another setup-*.exe file. When this happens, the setup will stop running and tell you to close the window. You then have to restart the setup again to actually install that mod.

This isn't a big deal for a manual install but for the auto install, it will crash the whole process and you have to start all over again.

Ok here is exactly what i have tried. I am ONLY trying to install BGT. As I said before my hard drive is too small for a lot of other things.

FYI I am running Windows XP.

1) Install BG1, custom install to filepath C:\Baldur - I use the default disc cache size, check every single box, and install the game. The installation wizard tells me I don't have enough disc drive space, but I ignore that because I know that I do (I have 20 gigs of free space)

2) Install TOSC, again custom install - check every single box and install the game. I am asked during this installation if I want to overwrite two files (dll files I think) I click yes. I do not install Roger Wilco or Direct X 6.1

3) Install the BGTOSC patch (as it is the 5 cd set)

4) Configure and Run the game once. Create a character and save the game before quitting.

5) Install BG2 to the default filepath (also on drive C:). Use a full install.

6) Install BG2TOB to drive C:. Also use a full install.

7) Install the BG2TOB patch

8) Configure the game and run it once. Create a character and save the game before quitting.

9) Just started trying this step, but it doesn't seem to matter one way or the other. Open my BGII \ baldur.ini file. Under [GAME OPTIONS]: Enter the following lines:
Debug Mode=1
Cheats=1
Force Dialog Pause=1

10) Extract the zipped files from BGT_mk3_112 to my BG2TOB folder

11) Edit the .bat file like so (again a recent step I have begun)
FOR /F "delims=" %%v IN (TEMP$$$$.$$$) DO SET BG1PATH=%%v
And Change it to: SET BG1PATH=C:\baldur

12) Run the BGT_mk_112 setup. At the pompt type C:/Baldur hit control-z and enter, watch the files scroll. I get Unix errors during step 3 like the other guy

13) At the end, up pops the readme file and the XPPatcher program (so it must be an automated install I don't know how to do a manual install) I change the starting xp in BGMain to 100

14) I copy the override folder from lost_files to my BG2TOB folder and click yes to do you want to overwrite these files. I do the same thing with the override folder from patch_snares, and the patch114 override and dialog.tlk files, with each of these I do a copy and paste, clickng yes to "Do you want to overwrite the following files?"

15) I run BG2TOB, click on Shadows of Amn, click on Single Player, click on Baldur's Gate (in the spot where Tutorial used to be) up pops a window that says I am about to go "in through the back door and play the Baldur's Gate mod, etc." I create a character and voila show up in the Duchal Palace, beginning the BG2 tutorial. i complete the tutorial and find myself stuck in Irenicus' cage, with no introduction (Irenicus doesn't test on me and Imoen never shows up). There are no games to load.

16) A friend told me to try to copy my override folder from the bgt3 folder and paste it into my BG2TOB folder when I do this, everything is the same except when I finish creating my character i wind up outside the inn in Candlekeep (from BG1) for about 1 second before the game crashes.

I have tried the above steps (without steps 9 and 11) about 8 times now, I have tried with steps 9 and 11, three times. I have the exact same results every time regardless.

Ok, I hope I am being clear now. Any more help would be appreciated.

I see nothing rong with your install.
I had the same trouble a year ago trying to install BGT.
Try this use your BGMain.exe to run the game.

Quot
15) I run BG2TOB, click on Shadows of Amn, click on Single Player, click on Baldur's Gate (in the spot where Tutorial used to be) up pops a window that says I am about to go "in through the back door and play the Baldur's Gate mod, etc." I create a character and voila show up in the Duchal Palace, beginning the BG2 tutorial. i complete the tutorial and find myself stuck in Irenicus' cage, with no introduction (Irenicus doesn't test on me and Imoen never shows up). There are no games to load.

15) I run BGMain.exe, click on Shadows of Amn, click on Single Player.
Stert a Shadows of Amn game first. With a dummy PC name hem shit it you like.
Get the auto save & your save Then exit all the way out to desk top.
Go back in click on Shadows of Amn, click on Single Player, click on Baldur's Gate (in the spot where Tutorial used to be) up pops a window that says I am about to go "in through the back door and play the Baldur's Gate mod, etc. Create a good
new PC.

PS If this dont help You well need to wate for one of the outhers to help.

Okay, step 11 you do not need. That is for the Win98 users, and isn't needed for XP.

For the BGT setup, when you extracted the BGT_MK_112, did you get 1 folder called BGT? Inside that should be the folders needed to install BGT. You should not have the BGT_MK_112 extract several folders into the SOA directory, only one.

Don't worry about whether this is an auto or manual install. It is actually neither since they only apply to BP or BGT-BP.

It creates one single folder called bgt3. Inside that folder is an internet file called bgt_mk3_readme, a MS Dos file called readme, a MS dos file called bgt_setup, a folder called biffme, a folder called root, and a folder called temp.

EDIT:
Warlock I tried your way and it is the same problem.

After running the bgt_mk3_112, the bgt3 folder has changed: biffme, root, and temp are gone, replaced by the files Weidu, dialog.tlk, xpPatcher, xpPatcher_readme, and the folders mpsave, music, and ovderride.
