I was playing BG1 recently (right now, to be exact), and arrived at the Nashkel carnival. As I was de-stonifying Branwen, I was struck with an idea for a mod.

The mod idea is this: All of the NPCs who were in BG1 who are not joinable NPCs in unmodded BG2 (I count the BG2 Tutorial as being part of BG1) should be made available to join the party, with the exception of the ones who fight alongside you in Obe's training center. We know that Xan and Branwen are in the Tutorial, but as far as I am aware, there is no explanation for what happened to them afterward. Nor are there suitable explanations for the disappearances of Shar-Teel, Kagain, Yeslick, Eldoth, Skie, and so forth. It would be particularly interesting to see the changes that would be made to BG2 to have Ajantis joinable in BG2, or everybody's favourite gnome, Tiax.
The second part of the mod would explain (in their biographies?) why such party members as Edwin, Viconia, and the others who are already joinable in both BG1 and BG2 weren't in Irenicus' Dungeon with you.



I'm not particularly coherent right now (night does that to you, unfortunately) and I realize that this is kinda shoddily written (especially for me), so let me know if you need me to put my ideas into clearer terms when I'm more awake.

this has been attempted/is in development a number of times. it would probably be better to focus on a one or a few npc's you would like to make, preferably ones others aren't making, although you could make your own if you have a different view of the character. a version of kivan is in development at this site and had
a list of other mods w/ bg1 npcs, but it hasn't been updated in a while, i know it dosn't include the tiax mod in this (mod ideas) forum, and domi's version of kivan at g3.

Well, it indeed was discussed many a time;

My answer is (and I am speaking from my BG1NPC experience)

-set aside 3 years to complete the project
-create at least 5 very talented and very prolific people writing team
-set up a cruel and merciless material submission scheme
-have at least 2 decent dialogue coders who are not occupied with 'other' projects

and you will have it; BG2 in this case will have about 40 NPCs. I was actually thinking to do for Xan the same thing I did for Kivan - exporting his PC dialogues from BG1NPC, adding a few more, and creating a 60-70 banters pack. But I do not see much point :)
