Candlekeep suggestions

I shall explain my problem with it and try to suggest a way to improve.
The chores are tedious, yes, one can live with that, but it is no fun. Especially as the rational way to go about them gets punished. For example, I would prefer to go get the pails, milk the cows one time. Then go to Thalantyr and get the scrolls, give them to scribes and go on to put books up for Deweyn and milk the cows a second time, then go back for scrolls, give them to Thalantyr, and do the beds for Cllarissa. However, one gets punished for doing that. If you do not stand around looking silly for three- four hours while the scribes worj they have nothing to say to you when you return from the other chores AND your aligment gets changed- for doing things the rational way!! Further, there is to many bedding pieces for one person to carry which menas that one has to go up and do some before coming back for more, suffering another alignment change. I do not like that. Especially as you have to do it THREE F*cking days. I suggest instead that you mod it so that one CAN do things the rational way and so that when you have done it once the two other days it is enough to say "Yes father I will do my chores today" and then let a film play where he does it. Then the learning, the sleep, next day the same. The way it is now there is no fun in it and I play BGII for fun.
As for the rest of the mod I do not know, I am stuck doing chores (Mutter)...
Best wishes and thanks; Palle

In any case I am somewhat fed up with it and will start chopping heads with my infamous sword Nadr soon.
Best (though somewhat irritated) wishes; Palle

Well, now I am F*ing annoyed. He claims that I have put books on incorrect shelves, he has not given me any books and I have checked every stinking shelf in the library, no book is in a wrong place.

well, in reply to the first post, these are supposed to be chores right? so id assume that they were meant to be (yes, you guessed it) a CHORE. am i not correct?
I know what you mean, but will chose a serious reply instead of a humourous one since I actually did come up with suggestions for improvement and does take this conversation serious (possibly too serious).
No, it is not supposed to be a chore to play a computer game, I am not Cespenar. I play to relax between chores. If I want to do a chore I go do the washing up or hoover etc. I found the first day of it amusing. Including the film with the playing with Imoen. But then I had to endure another day, and then one where the task was unsoluble. Then I got fed up really and tried to think of a way the positive sides could be retained while the boring parts would be just a film. You would still gain insight in the events and upbringing that shaped your character's life and personality and you could still choose to be part of forming it. It would be great, I would love it. Especially compared to being stuck with no way of continuing. Not even cheating. That does suck a bit, but then again, at the moment I cannot even start the game
Best wishes; Palle

on a serious note then:
i find that most problems with candlekeep can be fixed by resting before trying again.
personally ive never come up with the book problem, a bit wierd.. fixed that yet?
but you should keep trying to fix it, even if it means starting a new game, because this mod really is worth it in the end, especially if you chose to be a mage.
get back to me with how you're doing, alright?

i don't like cheating, but this was the first time i decided control-j was the fair thing to do. Come on the character is slow moving as he is, control-j is the only to do it fast, and it still takes ages to complete it this way I say a chore-be-gone mod would be an excellent idea
A cool idea of a mod, several others have bitched about this part of the mod. I wonder what CB's opinion of a "hack" mod to his would be?

Why must you wonder? I've already told folks that a) I won't take Candlekeep out, and B) such a mod would preclude support from me.

The idea is great. ITs good to have a childhood.
What beats me why not a mini adventure, fighting comblins, or discovering a dusty old secret passage that not even Goriion knows about.
Watching your character doing chores during the opening cut scene would be great... rather than running around, trying to figure out if you've done all the beds...or milking the cow which says, your'e not close enough to see if its needs miliking, even when standing right next to it (having a sexual attraction to bovines is beyond a druids duty!)
The essence of a good game is not items, monsters, areas, traps, but a good story bringing the threads together.
The question is not dissing candlekeep, but making it playable and, dare I say it, fun.
Respectfully,
Shiva

I would never expect you to have to support this type of project. Since I hope to start looking into building a new worldmap for BGT-BP-CtB, I figured such a small jump through CK would be possible as well. I think new players should go through the experience of the full mod, that is what you wrote it for. Doesn't mean that if I play it ten times through that I am going to want to milk another cow. I can do that here on my own farm.I wonder what CB's opinion of a "hack" mod to his would be?

We like the Candlekeep Mod. However, with some reservations that could be remedied and probably should. Though it it your mod and heartchild CB, it is still a product so to speak and products must also appeal to "customers", that is, us.
1) we are somewhat tired of all the p*ssing about doing endless chores, especially when bugs turn up that forces us to start all over. I syggested we remedy this by judt doing chores one day and for the remainder being asked whether we will do them or not and if agreeing watching a video of us doing them. Then let the various rewards and plays with Imoen happen as they do now. As I said, I play BG to relax from chores, if I want to do chores I can go hoover or wash up.
2) an added childhood adventure could be fun. I do not know about that, I do not expect a ten-year old to go goblin- or gibberlinghunting and I think it detratcs a bit from the general idea in the game and mod of a peaceful, quiet, idyllic and dutyful upbringing, but it does have a certain appeal to it.
Think of it CB, it is generally a too good idea to be marred by irritation over endless repetetive chores.
Thanks and best wishes to all; Palle

Its too linear and too slow, although they have founded the speed up switch, but it remains too slow. They in particular objected to being sent to their room. (A lesson for me perhaps )
This is meant to be constructive criticism, if there was more stuff that broke up the linearity of the chores; you'd have something else to do and the waiting would seem less tedious. (I'm sure you can think of other improvements).
If I fix the other problems, and get to play the candlekeep episode, I'll write something longer and hopefully more helpfull. I don't feel qualified to participate in the poll yet.
Added on 1st Edit
One of the boys has now finisihed the Candlekeep episode, and the cutscene reward is almost enough, its quite "funky do dad". Despite this please count us as a vote for a re-think.
