I have looked a good bit at this forum and did a little searching, so if this has apeared before please make make better topics ;) (or alternativelly just yell at me.)

I was mostly curious if anyone had thought of a mod where you simply randomise every magic item and most of the "named" enemies in Baldurs Gate 1, also unlocking most of the story so it doesnt get so rigid. It would do wonders for replaying the game.

I am getting to the point where no matter what map in the game i go to i feel that i went there for a munchkin reason, even if i didnt really intent such. If i go to the Nashkel mines map, i know theres Greywolf there with hes +2 longsword, and i know theres a wand of frost in the tree... and so on. it kinda ruins replaying of the game for me.

So what i am askingis, how much work would it be to put every named enemy in a random encounters with globals saying "greywolf=dead/alive" and done same with most if not all magic items. I do belive that shopps are rather difficult to randomise ? unless you randomise the shoppkeeper. And well, overriding certain plot things, like beeing able to get into the banditcam, cloackwood, and baldurs gate.

That would make the game much more freeform, and a tad fresher each time. And on your toes every time you enter a map, are you gonna meet an Ogre, or that nasty Ramazit in that cave ? and will he give you 25 gold pieces or a wand of missles ?

thank you all for your moments of attention, i hope i did not bore you all.

Hmm... sounds interesting, but I imagine it might be pretty hard to code. I'm not an expert on the subject, but still..

On the other hand, it would make replaying the game more interesting, although there is also the fact it would probably remove a lot of continuity.

I think that would take a lot away from the style of the game.

Other games which are less heavy on the roleplay side, such as Diablo II, use this approach if it's what you are looking for when you play. :)

Basically im just tired of having to go to point A (kobold mines), point B (bandit camp), oint C (Cloackwood), Point D (Baldurs Gate), Point E (Candlekeep), Point F (Baldurs Gate), Finito.

I would just liek to roam the place a bit more, and whenever i walk into a map, not instantlly know every magic item and monster XP on the map. I would also love to have monsterspawns totally random, so you can spawn wyverns at level 2 characters andn such. life is supposed ot be difficult. funnier when you actual yhave to creep forward carefully rather than just storm forward becose you can kill anything in "this" region anyways.

And as for continuity, yeah, it would ruin some of that. But i think that to would make the game more freeform to paly as you wanted to. Personally ima big fan of cloackwood, i love that place. To raom around in the forest and just enjoy the place. now... i hate teh kobold mines :P they are so boring. i have done exstensive training in running through that place as fast as posible (record about 20 min iirc, been a while, 3 party memebers total, char +immy + kivan)

But i was curious how difficult this would be ? any coders that can ansver ?

yeah im ranting, ill just shaddap (especially since i type like a cow on spotted mushrooms tonight.)
