If Helm really wanted too he could have slain any or all of them if he really wanted too, but of course he was too duty bound to even think of such a thing.

I doubt very much that Ao would have allowed that. ;)

That too.

I just realised I pasted something in my previous post without deleting all of the old sentence, oh well.

regarding Nightmare's list. Chauntea is the only diety with Divine ranking of 19, and she is ranked lowest. interesting. really i dont think you could count on the "avatar levels" since most dieties have some rather insane control over their portfolios. Mystra can (and have in the padt) denied people and even gods (cyric) the access to magic itself (in all forms), so she could practically hamper just about any god in the settings, perhaps tempus or shar could avoid that, but i doubt anyone else.

And per say, Mystra IS teh most powerfull one, just that a great part of her power is "locked away" so that she wont be overpowerfull. *sigh* clearly who's Mr. Elwood favorite girly ...

Mystra *could* deny other gods access to magic in theory, but in practice she wouldn't - unless she had the backing of the majority of the other greater gods to do so, they - not to mention Ao - would be very pissed off about it.

Also, if a god denied his rival (or his rival's followers) the use of elements of his portfolio without just cause, most of the other gods would likely return the favour and deny that god the use of elements of their own portfolios.

BTW some of the non-greater gods actually have more powerful avatars than some of the greater gods (Selune's avatar, for instance, has 100 character levels), but remember that greater gods can have 10 such avatars running around at once, while intermediate powers are limited to five, lesser powers to two, and demipowers to only one.

I'd suggest Bane as the most powerful deity, either before or after his death and rebirth. He was powerful enough a mortal to (with Bhaal and Myrkul) become elevated to Godhood, and even dared to strike against Ao's supremacy (by stealing the Tablets of Fate).

His rising from the dead has to count for something - Ao must've judged him worthy enough to return him, else Bane was powerful enough to defy him and return by himself. He's head of one of the most powerful - if not the most powerful - organisations on Faerun (the Zhentarim) and commands the loyalty of several other evil deities (Talona, Loviatar, and a few others I think).

Also, yeah, his avatar's got the most levels of any I can think of. ;)

Since Bane's resurrectionLoviator and Talona are both trying to decide whether to serve him or Shar, since they were starting to fall under her sway while he was dead. Not exactly an easy decision to make ;).

Chauntea could deny any god's worshipers food, thus choking off the source of the god's very existence, right?

The only god who could actually win a fight is Ao, really. If the other gods fought each other one-on-one, he'd step in.

It depends on the rules. If they could use Epic stuff, like Mystra using Epic spells, she would win. If it was just physical, maybe with domain powers, Bahmut or Tempos would win. And yes Bahamut is weaker, but he could fly up and breathe on his opponent :gun: Bane could try, but Tempos or Bahamut in purely physical, the elemental deitys would give everyone a run for their money, but if magic, especially Epic magic is used Mystra would win. SHe is the only one who could use arcane and divine Epic Spells.

Loviatar and Talona used to both serve Bhaal and in turn he served Bane. Since Bhaal and Bane both died Loviatar and Talona were left by themselves. I believe that Loviatar tried to force Talona to accept her as the new leader and Talona sought protection from Shar. With Bane back Loviatar will probably serve Bane (or get whacked :thumb: ) and Talona will either come back to bane or stay with Shar. This is my speculation, feel free to tear it apart :nana: .

Technically, yes to starvation, but Ao wouldn't permit it.

Similar to when Mystra denied Cyric access to the Weave in the Avatar series.

Also, in The History Of The Dead Three book in the BG games, Bhaal points out he could destroy Bane by killing all his worshippers or destroy Myrkul by not letting anyone die... :)

Ao does seem to allow the murder of deities by other - there were numerous killings during the Time of Troubles, and more recently Shar killed Ibrandul, for example. Though, yeh, I think if too many were slain he'd step in and do something.

Although I think the Avatar trilogy disagrees with me, IMHO Chauntea shouldn't be able deny a rival deities followers all food, only plants - and even then, probably only plants cultivated by human farmers. After all, hunting, butchers, animals, etc aren't covered by her portfolio.

But then doesn't each god have an advantage that could let them overpower certain other gods?

Like an advanced version of rock, paper, scissors, with a few twist, some Firewine ale, and a monkey thrown in?

Not exactly a god, but... Asmodeus would probably be able to take on most of the Powers...
Wondering where's the old Interplay community? Well, they're all at Ashford City!

Well, in his current state Asmodeus (Ahriman) can't take control of his serpent body which lies on the final layer. IF he could use his serpentine form fully, he could take out almost all of the Powers, but as it is, he isn't so powerful that he could challenge a Greater Power.

I am the whispers in your head
Letting you know you're the next one dead
I am the blade that cuts your skin
That forgives yourself for all your sin
I am the guilt that gnaws your soul
Corrodes the heart to a gaping hole
The hammers pounding all around
So you beat the walls to rid the sound
I am your memories, distorted and loud
That make you scream and shreik aloud
Yes, I make you crazy, it's all my fault
That we're here alone in this cushoined vault

What about the recently resurrected Bane?

Besides Cyric's having portfolio's stolen from him left and right, last I heard. He might have been a match with his newly created book, but noooo he had to start leafing through it himself. Idjit. :P
