I prefer 3.XE to AD&D, however I will point out to Deathsangel that some races do get bonuses to INT. From the FR, there's drow and sun elves to start with...

I do not have the Fearūn book with the ghostwise halflings and such. Therefor I do not know the Sun Elves

In the 'normal' setting (in monster manual) with 3.5 you have Drow with +2 Dex, -2 Con, +2 Cha. Drow are however +2 ECL. Thus they are no standard race. And I was talking about standard races.

Gray Elves have +2 Dex, -2 Con, +2 to Int and -2 Cha, but normally you play a High Elf and thus again Gray Elves are no standard race.

Thus what I said wasn't wrong Andyr as I talked about standard races

Still modding the Mod for the Wicked... It is a big project you know... And I got sidetracked (several times) a bit... sorry.

I was counting subraces as standard races. :) If you're saying the standard Elf is a high elf (moon elf in FR) and the grey elf (sun elf in FR) and drow elf are not standard then you're right, though.

Weapon speed is misleading and broken in the standard 2E rules. It needs to be combined with some common sense. Then again everything does. Blindly following rules (that you fully understand) when they make no sense is not a good idea in any RPG system.

If we are on opposite sides of a small room, I have a two handed sword, you have a dagger, and I know you are hostile, you will NOT close the gap and beable to attack before I have a chance to bring the sword down on ya.

Yes, exceptional str is goofy, but an 18/00 strength is not an 18 strength, it is more than twice as strong overall.

Agree on everything here. Farmost that you should not blindly follow rules

They probably removed the blood war. It was not in any other edition besides AD&D 2E and alot of people didn't like it.

True, as is the popular sentiment of this entire forum and most of the young fans who've since grown into adulthood and lost their chlidhood to workaholic nonimaginative careers. It's utterly depressing.

New fans, new enthusiasm, and better consistency of details are needed. If even the authors aren't loyal to the story then how can we expect anyone else stay interested? This is what I've devoted my life to. I will renew the lost hope when I finish my work. I don't care if it takes the rest of my life to perfect it. People will come back and be happy with Baldur's Gate and the side-shoot "Blood War" random encounters. It may not happen in my lifetime, but that is not for me to decide, so I simply carry on with what I am compelled to do. Anything less would not be me.

I have both the MotP and the Planar Handbook. I think the Manual does good to translate the setting, and am really happy with it. One thing you must remember is how MUCH PS stuff was out there in 2nd edition. Truely, you can't expect all the goodies you love to be smashed into two books?
The thing is, alot of those 2nd edition books were mostly setting, and with alot of the online conversions that you can fish around in, there is not a whole lot- stat wise- that you cannot find already translated. Even if you do not like the translations, they often require minimal alteration.
It's best to assume that anything you liked (the Para-Elemental Planes seem popular) are still there, just didn't make the cat in the books. With the Para-E, it's easy to look at the component Elemental planes and old 2nd edition sources and have what you need.

I would definitely advise getting the Manual of the Planes for anyone interested in running a Planes game (my wife uses one of the Prestige classes, and it works great for the setting, and I have made use of the 'Petitioner' template as well).
The Planar Handbook is not so advised, from this camp. I agree the races are watered down, and I'm unsure about the Planar Touchstones. However, the 'Touchstone' sites make good sites for games- even discounting the rules for them. Planar substitution allows you to trade off abilities within a class for more planar related abilities. However, maybe a Prestige class or two would be more fitting- perhaps a planar feats... Uncertain there.

I'm only familiar with the Manual of the Planes (Well, I own it), but really have never used it. The information is interesting, but something I didn't really want to force into my game.

Actually, in the one campaign I'm actually trying to use it (the Plane of Mirrors), my party forgot it existed and hasn't paid any attention since.
